"Supermarket Scramble" is the ninth episode of The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.

Mickey and friends' plans for a barbecue get sidetracked in the hectic grocery store.

Tropes

  • Bavarian Fire Drill: Mickey, being his usual relentlessly nice self, helps other customers find what they're looking for, gently tells kids not to mess with the shopping carts, and fixes displays. The real manager quickly catches on and puts Mickey in charge before running away in his underwear.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: After being "promoted", Mickey becomes a shaking wreck as he tries to tend to everyone's problems. Daisy slaps him across the face to remind him that he's here to get food for the barbecue.
  • Getaway Driver: Daisy drives her friends out of the supermarket, narrowly escaping the chaos.
  • Grocery Store Episode: Each of the five main characters get into hijinks in a different section of the store. Mickey starts off in the canned goods aisle but quickly gets swept up all the way to accidentally becoming manager. Minnie gets into a Retail Riot over the last hot dogs. Donald accidentally develops Shock and Awe powers from the static electricity of the un-openable bags in the produce section. Goofy spars with a lobster in the seafood aisle. And Daisy spends the episode in the parking lot.
  • I'll Pretend I Didn't Hear That: A traffic cop tells Daisy she cannot park her car in the middle of the lot. She rolls up her window, claims she can't hear what he's saying (even though the sun roof is also down), and continues sunbathing.
  • Impact Silhouette: In the mad dash to escape the store, the gang doesn't properly check out their items. Mickey just yells that they're not shoplifting and tosses a massive stack of bills at the cashier's face, leaving a rectangular impact on his head.
  • Medium-Shift Gag: Footage of real flames accent the madness in the hot dog Retail Riot.
  • Retail Riot: Minnie, shopping for the meats, gets caught up in a stampede of shoppers when a massive sale on hot dogs is announced.
  • Shock and Awe: Donald accrues so much static electricity from the uncooperative produce bags that he starts shocking everything in sight. In the climax, the group uses this to their advantage and has Donald launch them into Daisy's car.
  • Shopping Cart Antics: First Mickey gently encourages some kids not to play with the carts lest they skin their knees. Then he commandeers a cart and uses it to round up Minnie and Donald.
  • Shout-Out: Flounder from The Little Mermaid is pictured on the seafood display.
  • Something We Forgot: It isn't until the mice and ducks are finally enjoying their barbecue that they realize they don't have any lobster. Cut to Goofy, who's somehow gotten himself stuck in the lobster tank and being purchased by another shopper.
Goofy: Gawrsh! I hope she's bringing me to the barbecue!
