Lucky gets the whole village hooked on gambling, but when an earl of a local town decides to turn the Smurf Forest into a gaming complex, the Smurfs must turn to Gargamel for help.

Tropes associated with this story include:

  • Bankruptcy Barrel: Brainy is seen wearing one when he loses everything, even his glasses, in gambling.
  • Berserk Button: Never call Papa Smurf "old beard"!
  • The Bet: The Smurfs have Gargamel make a bet with the earl of Aubenas that he would best the earl's knights in a contest of skill so that the earl would not cut down the forest that Gargamel and the Smurfs live in, with Gargamel offering to be a jester to the earl for three years if he lost the bet.
  • Call-Back: To "The Reporter Smurf".
  • Den of Iniquity: A very family-friendly version of this in the story, as Papa Smurf discovers the Smurfs have set up a private gambling room in the village.
  • Enemy Mine: Gargamel reluctantly works together with the Smurfs to save their forest.
