Return to Recap: The Smurfs.

A Smurf named Reporter decides to develop the first Smurf Village newspaper, and so has Handy develop the first printing press. But things get out of control when Reporter abuses his position to snoop into Smurfette's life and find out who her "true love" is.

Tropes associated with this story include:

  • Agitated Item Stomping: Smurfette stomps her blue dress to death when Reporter catches wind of the dress she planned to surprise her fellow Smurfs with from outside Tailor's shop and leaks the information to the press.
  • Ascended Meme: A common meme among Smurf haters is to present Papa Smurf as a fascist or communist dictator. In the story, Reporter accuses Papa Smurf of being a dictator through his newspaper when Papa Smurf warns him to stop going after Smurfette with his "exclusives".
  • Blah, Blah, Blah: Papa Smurf's explanation to Smurfette to why he can't stop Reporter from reporting his "exclusives" on Smurfette after Reporter in the press accuses Papa Smurf of becoming a dictator:
Papa Smurf: It's just... you see, freedom of the press and blah, blah, blah.
  • Call-Back:
    • To "The Finance Smurf" in one of the articles that appear on the front page of the newspaper.
    • To "Smurf Vs. Smurf" as there is still a designation between the North Smurfs and the South Smurfs.
  • Costume-Test Montage: Reporter goes through panels trying on different costumes created by Tailor Smurf in order to find something appropriate to wear so he can stand out as a reporter Smurf.
  • Flower-Pot Drop: A Smurf reading the village newspaper wonders if he's a Taurus when the horoscope of the day for Taurus reads "beware of falling objects", and soon enough he gets bonked in the head by a flower pot, with his fellow Smurf confirming that he's a Taurus.
  • Getting the Boot: What Reporter imagines giving Papa Smurf when he has to endure listening to the village leader tell what the newspaper is supposed to be for.
  • Gossip Evolution: Fisher Smurf's story about simply losing his catch of the day evolves into a story about him fighting a monster in the lake when the story gets passed around from one Smurf to another.
  • Implied Death Threat: Reporter gets Brainy to leave the newspaper's printing office and not suggest anymore changes to the paper by underhandedly threatening him with an "accident" while Greedy crushes a nut under the printing press to drive home the point.
  • Playing Sick: The Smurfs when Gargamel receives a bogus news article about a disease that the Smurfs are carrying that turns any human that comes into contact with them into a toad.
  • Sticky Situation: Gargamel's glue trap for the Smurfs, which he lures them into through the help of Reporter providing misinformation about the evil wizard's plans.
