Recap / The Simpsons S 32 E 15 Do Pizza Bots Dream Of Electric Guitars

Go To

Homer tries to reunite his favorite mechanical band from his youth, but film and TV creator J.J. Abrams beats him to it.

The episode contains examples of:

  • The '90s: The first five minutes of the episode takes place in the 90s when teenage Homer worked at a pizza restaurant.
  • As Himself: J. J. Abrams.
  • Comic-Book Time:
    • The episodes retcons Homer as being a teenager in the 90s, a change so drastic it didn't go unnoticed by fans and one of the staff members decided to justify it.
    • Weirder is that Homer now belongs to the generation that his son, Bart was in when the show began.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Marge already had traffic cones ready in case Homer had a meltdown in the middle of the parking lot.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Homer, having already rebooted them under the suggestion of Gil back in the 90s, takes offense to J.J. Abrams rebooting his favorite robot band.
    • Disco Stu’s mother criticises him for fixating on a terrible music form but…
  • It Runs in the Family: Disco Stu's father was Doo-Wop Steve, and his mother is Public Domain Debbie.
  • I Warned You: Abraham tells Homer that his dreams are stupid and he's going to fail. After the FBI confiscates the pizza robots, Abe drives up to Homer, tells him "Told ya!" and drives off.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: Troll Force Five consists of Comic Book Guy, Mary Sue, The Furry, The Shipper, and Stan (That said, it's still a fandom term).
  • Putting the Band Back Together: The plot revolves around reuniting a band of animatronics that used to belong to a pizza restaurant.
  • Recycled Script: Teased In-Universe at when Abrams ends up taking the robot band away from Homer after buying the rights to them for a reboot.
Homer: "No! The same thing that happened in my childhood has happened again... except slightly different."
    Abrams: "That's what I do."
  • Sherlock Scan: Moe does one to prove that Sideshow Mel really does have Foxy Lady hidden in his house.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Suck E. Cheese's: Razzle Dazzle's, the pizza place that Homer used to work at. It gets shut down once it's found out that Gil has been smuggling cocaine in the robots.
  • Troll: Comic Book Guy recommends Homer start an internet outcry over Abrams new reboot movie, and The Tag shows a number of obsessive fans with specialties ranging from shipping to canon as a type of superhero team.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: With some Leaning on the Fourth Wall courtesy of Bart: climactically, Marge says there's only one person who can help Homer and dials a number. Lisa asks Marge who it is, but Bart tells her not to answer as "it'll be cooler when we find out later." It turns out to be Abe.
Lisa: So that's who Mom called earlier!
    Bart: So satisfying!
