Tropes

  • Big "NO!": Penny's reaction to Trudy buying a matching dress for her in the penultimate scene of the episode.
  • Clumsy Copyright Censorship: The captions on Disney+, and possibly also the DVD and digital copy, don't display the lyrics to Destiny's Child's "Independent Women (Part 1)", which must confuse hearing-impaired viewers when the credit card lip-syncs to it.
  • Credit Card Plot: Half of the episode revolves around Penny owning a credit card.
  • The Corruptor:
    • The credit card influences Penny to buy as many expressive things as she wants, regardless of the consequences. Thankfully, she realizes she isn't responsible enough to resist the temptation and cuts it up.
    • Her friends are also this to a lesser extent, influencing her to overspend on clothing and getting her to treat them to ice cream. Though it's only after the credit card itself convinces her to overspend on clothes.
  • Domestic Abuser: Trudy strikes Oscar in frustration after he lets it slip that he paid Felix for "turning their house into a kite".
  • Faux Horrific: Towards the end, Trudy makes it clear to Penny that although she's tried to make amends for using her credit card, ultimately, she still has to face consequences. That is to say, she'll be shopping on her daughter's behalf for a bit longer, leading to her showing off a look-alike of Penny's outfit she bought just earlier. Penny is pretty horrified that this is her punishment.
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: The one animal Trudy is afraid of, despite being a veterinarian. Of course, because she swore an oath, she doesn't want Oscar to kill it. She just wants it out of the house.
  • Helium Speech: Due to being stuck to the house by the house covering when Oscar causes the Proud residence to float away using helium, Suga Mama gets this when she reprimands Oscar for endangering her and Puff's lives at the end.
  • Here We Go Again!: After Penny cuts up the credit card, it finds its way to Dijonay, making itself hers and we all know how irresponsible Dijonay tends to be.
  • Hypocrite: Oscar refuses to pay $15 for the exterminator's services, citing it as a ripoff, but ends up spending far more money otherwise when he resorts to extreme measures to try to get rid of the mouse, something that a livid Trudy calls him out on.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: The credit card is voiced by Steve Harvey, which even has his trademark mustache.
  • It's Personal: After the mouse foils his initial plan to get rid of it, Oscar states it's personal now.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Suga Mama did rightly point out how it was stupid to give Penny, a middle school aged teenager, a credit card to begin with.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • "Dang! We got repo!" says Dijonay when the table carrying their ice cream gets sucked into the floor. The scene also serves as a dose of karma for her and the rest of the gang influencing Penny to overspend. This caused the credit card to be rejected. LaCienega, however, shoots Penny a Death Glare for it, indicating she believed it was Never My Fault and was Penny's.
    • The credit card suffers this under the hands of Penny when the latter cuts him up (it's also due to the credit card refusing to bail her out of trouble when it got rejected when Penny tried to buy her friends some ice cream).
  • Limited Wardrobe: Penny complains about the fact that her outfits are pretty much the same and have no variety, being outdated and handpicked by her mother, leading into her getting a credit card. Suga Mama also complains about Trudy picks her regular outfits at the beginning, but she does not press further.
  • Oh, Crap!: Penny as the cashier repossesses her friends' ice cream because she couldn't pay for it with her credit card. LaCienega shoots her a Death Glare for it.
  • Right Behind Me: The mouse ends up on Oscar's nose when he ends up shaking the mouse house trap too vigorously, in Oscar's suit helmet when he and Felix fumigate the house, and stands next to Oscar when he causes the house to float away when he pumps it with helium.
  • Shadow Discretion Shot: Played for Laughs when Penny cuts up the credit card.
  • Traumatic Haircut: Suga Mama accidentally pulls off all of Puff's fur when she tries to remove the sticky traps that the dog got tangled in.
Suga Mama: Anybody got any Rogaine?
