Chum Bucket List

Original air date: 2/21/24

Patrick eats a big batch of chum, but thinks it's been poisoned and he's going to die. Before he goes to the doctor, he wants to accomplish his bucket list with SpongeBob's help.

Chum Bucket List contains examples of:

  • Animation Bump: The scene where Patrick announces to the audience that he is going to die is animated with full lighting and shading, something the show usually doesn't do.
  • The Character Ice Cream Barinvoked: The iconic deformed SpongeBob popsicle, plus a melting Patrick one, appear during a montage in the beginning.
  • Cone of Shame: Patrick is fitted with a cone to prevent him from eating more chum. He just orders Plankton to fill the cone with chum and eats from there.
  • Creator Cameo: Patrick and SpongeBob get stepped on by Bill Fagerbakke himself.
  • A Day in the Limelight: SpongeBob plays a major role in this one.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Patrick tries to detonate an atomic bomb in the Chum Bucket just because Plankton forgot his second order of chum fries.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Pause the episode and you can read everything on Patrick's bucket list, including goals like "become French" and "marry for money".
  • Friendship Song: The episode opens with a parody sitcom opening, with a song and montage about Patrick and SpongeBob's friendship.
  • Funeral Cut: Subverted. SpongeBob and Patrick are skydiving, when Patrick assures SpongeBob that they'll be safe. Smash Cut to square and star-shaped graves laying side by side. SpongeBob and Patrick safely parachute down in front of them.
  • Gale-Force Sound: SpongeBob screams so loud that the sheer volume of it pushes a building into a neighboring city.
  • No Fourth Wall:
    • Patrick tears off his clothes to prepare for a robot fight. He first rips off his clothes to reveal a ballerina uniform underneath, then rips it apart to reveal the episode's storyboards, then the episode's script, then his fighting uniform.
    • Patrick points to the episode's workprint timer and tells SpongeBob that what they have time for depends on "how much time this gag takes up."
  • Reveal Shot: When Patrick wants to "see one last beautiful sunset", we see SpongeBob and Patrick sitting in chairs in front of a sunset. Then it zooms out to show it's a billboard in the middle of a toxic waste dump.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: The scene of Patrick poisoning himself by drinking a bucket of chum has the happy Hawaiian track "Memories Of Trinidad" playing over it.
  • Stab the Salad: It looks like Plankton has murdered a bunch of people and is pouring poison into his chum. Those are just mannequins Karen left lying around, and he's just making a mixture to unclog his sink.
  • Violence Discretion Shot: We don't see Patrick go down his dangerous obstacle course — just particle effects and the audience members' reactions. Everyone is horrified, except for Slappy, who loves it.

Big Baby Patrick

Original air date: 2/22/24

Patrick throws a childish tantrum and acts like a baby when Cecil and Bunny want to throw his old toys out. His family decides to give him what he wants and treat him like a baby until he gets sick of it.

Big Baby Patrick contains examples of:

  • All Part of the Show: Patrick's tantrum is totally unrelated to the show, but when Squidina puts him on and he plays with a rattle, the audience thinks he's just "doing a baby act" and like it.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Bunny and Cecil are cleaning out Patrick's baby toys to make room for Cecil's home theater. We then see a bunch of random actors crammed into a closet.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: The episode's jokes about how boring baby spin-offs are can be read as a Take That! to Kamp Koral, a Spin-Off Babies show produced at the same time. At the end, the family just decide to resume their regular lives rather than being babies, with Cecil explaining that everyone has to grow up sometime. Best summed up by Squidina's reaction to Bunny desperately asking her to take care of a now-baby SpongeBob:
Squidina: (horrified) Now SpongeBob's a baby!?
  • Laser-Guided Karma: For all the trouble he put his family through for acting like a baby, Bunny decides that when GrandPat is acting immature, Patrick can take care of him. Smash Cut to Patrick dropping GrandPat off at an orphanage.
  • Persona Non Grata: SpongeBob gets banned from Goofy Goober's for life when "baby" Patrick eats his ice cream, since babies aren't allowed to have any.
  • Pluralses: "Baby" Bunny declares that they're having "eggs and spaghetties" for dinner.
  • Spin-Off Babies: Parodied.
    • Captain Quasar in Diapers is a spin-off about baby Quasar and Pat-Tron, who are too short to operate their spaceship without teamwork, and whom their enemies find too cute to want to attack.
    • The show turns into Baby Stars, with the cutesy theme song pointing out that babies "can't be held accountable for their actions!" The entire skit consists of the babies deciding to "pretend" to be adults.
  • Take That!: Towards the Spin-Off Babies phenomenon. The episode points out that there's not a lot babies can actually do, so they're not that interesting to watch.
