Chapter 46: A Lie That is True
Mrs. Waybright confronts the Boonchuys and Camila about Sasha's whereabouts. Meanwhile, Anne, Sprig, and Amara bump into Mr. Waybright.
Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:
- Adaptational Early Appearance: Mr. X is introduced before the events of "Anne-sterminator".
- A Day in the Limelight: While the Nocedas and the Boonchuys deal with Melissa and Detective Ventura, Sprig and Amara spend the day working as street performers and bonding with each other.
- Femme Fatale: Melissa has expertise on using her feminine charms to manipulate men and taught her daughter the same tactics, thereby making Sasha a Fille Fatale.
- For Want Of A Nail: Sprig meets Molly Jo before the events of "Spider-Sprig".
- Hate Sink: Sasha's father Chris believes she ran away because she didn't want to be at home with her parents and didn't understand that Sasha only wants to spend time with him. Instead of trying to find Sasha and making an effort to become better, he raucously claimed Sasha being ungrateful and not caring her whereabouts. After divorcing Melissa, he took advice from inspirational videos that led to him dating a woman younger than him with kids who he'd become a father figure for. He also takes them mainly for being more appreciative for things he provided than his original family and forgets about Sasha. This makes him an in-universe one as well, as Anne begins to grow a large amount of contempt towards him for not even being concerned over his missing daughter.
- Internal Reveal:
- Because of the interrogation, Camila learns that Marcy has been stabbed.
- Luz learns about how Anne expressed her hatred of Sasha.
- Like Parent, Like Child: Melissa taught Sasha to use charm to manipulate boys to her advantage, which she did on a regular basis. Chris also held up his hand and said "end of discussion." in the same way Sasha had done in the past.
- Men Act, Women Are: Sasha's mother uses her manipulation and Femme Fatale traits and teaches Sasha about them because she highly believes in this trope.
- Named by the Adaptation: Sasha's parents are listed as Chris and Melissa Waybright.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: By making Luz to do a statement about her disappearance for solving the case, she causes Luz to have a mental breakdown, earning Camila's glare.
- Not an Act: Luz attempts to fake cry during the interrogation, but when she remembers Andrias stabbing Marcy, she has a breakdown that leaves Detective Ventura feeling guilty.
- The Reveal: Sasha never came out as bi to her parents.
- Wham Episode: Sasha's parents learn Luz and Anne are back as does Detective Ventura. Mr. X interrogates the Lyft Driver about who the girls came back with, and Ventura questions him about it in an off-the-book conversation.
