Chapter 45: Fixing Frobo

Luz, Amara, and Polly try to fix Frobo.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adaptational Expansion: Ally and Jess had no background revealed in the canon show. Here, it's said that Jess' parents accept her sexuality despite herself being afraid, while Ally's didn't.
  • Big "NO!": Anne and Polly let one out when Luz states that she, Amara, and Polly could have some girl time.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Polly manages to repair Frobo, who's reduced to a head after fighting off Cloak-Bot, Ally and Jess learn about the Amphibians and promise to help build a portal, and Jess gives Luz encouragement about coming out. Unbeknownst to the Nocedas or the Boonchuys, Detective Ventura has learned the girls have returned home thanks to Jesse posting a story about them on her blog.
  • Continuity Nod: Anne and Polly strongly advise against "girl time" when Luz suggests it.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Polly and Amara team up to repair Frobo, and their butting heads on how to accomplish that goal is the main conflict of the chapter.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Sprig sneaks away to help the Lyft driver with a catering delivery for Thai Go and repeatedly doesn't understand why leaving the restaurant without telling anybody and stowing away in somebody's car was such a big deal.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Cloak-bot immediately goes to Frobo's location upon his reactivation, and Frobo is the one who damages Cloak-bot a second time, instead of Anne. Additionally, Ally and Jess learn the truth about the Amphibians before the events of "Escape to Amphibia".
  • Innocently Insensitive: Amara says Polly isn't smart enough to fix Frobo: she meant she didn't know enough about robotics to warrant activating him before the girls were properly prepared to turn him on. This drives Polly to work harder while pushing Luz and Amara away.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Sprig is accepted as family by Oum after she learns about his parents.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Anne takes notice of the fact that she, Luz and the Amphibians have been seeing the Lyft Driver around ever since they came home.
  • Noodle Incident: A litter robot had turned filtering out the mess that Domino had made in it.
  • Out of Focus: Polly's the only Plantar getting focus as she stays at the Noceda residence to rebuild Frobo with Amara. Anne, her parents and Sprig appear with the Lyft Driver at the beginning and Hop Pop appears during the scene at the Boonchuy house but they disappear once Polly spends the next few days staying with Luz.
  • The Reveal: Amara confesses that she's 15 years old and Bella's 17. Amara was preparing to take her entrance exam to attend Newtopia University before getting sent to Earth.
  • Sequel Hook: Ally and Jess promise to help build a portal to Amphibia when the girls and their friends need it. Meanwhile, Detective Ventura discovers that Luz and Anne may have returned home.
  • Wham Episode: Ally and Jess help restart Frobo and defeat the Frobot once and for all. Detective Ventura discovers Anne and Luz have returned home through the STMJ's gossip blog
