Recap / The New Adventures of Invader Zim, S1E10 "Tenn's Mission of Doom"

Go To

Learning of the Meekrob ship on Earth, the Tallest order Invader Tenn to look for information about it at the source.

  • Alien Geometries: As previously shown with the crashed ship on Earth, this is a standard of Meekrob architecture, as they try to maximize the use of interior space.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Red's reaction when Norlock mentions the crashed Meekrob ship.
  • Chekhov's Gun: When Tenn first shows up, she barely escapes a monster called a Scuttling Flesh-Render, and later notes that she's got her rampaging SIR Units locked up. Later, she uses both of them on the Meekrob chasing her.
  • Chirping Crickets: Norlock comments that he thinks he can hear one during the long silence when the Tallest realize they haven't tried to get in contact with Tenn for months.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This chapter focuses almost exclusively on Tenn and her mission on Meekrob.
  • Death World: Planet Meekrob is this to anyone who isn't an evolved Energy Being, being a barren wasteland full of super-predators.
  • Destroy the Evidence: When Tenn evacuates her base on Meekrob, she makes sure to scuttle her computers before she does so.
  • Lost Superweapon: Tenn discovers the existence of Project Domination, a Weapon of Mass Destruction created by a rogue Meekrob Mad Scientist. It was intentionally made lost by the other Meekrob, who cast it adrift in space to keep anyone from getting ahold of it.
  • Mythology Gag: The Tallest try to torment Zim by sending him after a Snarl Beast on Sylvestria (which he does of his own volition in Issue 10 of the comic series), but are thwarted by the fact he's already left the planet to go to a "space mall" (which he does prior to the events of Issue 7).
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Inverted with Ch'rell. Most Meekrob are Space Elves who want nothing to do with the rest of the universe, but he believed they were a Master Race and wanted them to conquer all other species.
  • Prompting Nudge: Red does this to Purple to keep him from accidentally revealing to Tenn that they forgot all about her.
  • Shout-Out: The rogue Meekrob who created Project Domination is named Ch'rell, the true name of the Utrom Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003).
  • Spit Take: When Norlock tells the Tallest about the crashed Meekrob ship, Purple chokes on a mouthful of fries and Red spits out his soda.
  • Swiss-Cheese Security: Meekrob security measures mostly qualify as this, due to how complacent they are in their defenses. Though it turns out that at least some of this is actually invoked in order to create a false sense of security in intruders.
  • Thrown Out the Airlock: The Tallest do this to a technician who points out that they've been ignoring an emergency beacon from Tenn for a year.
  • We Have Become Complacent: The Meekrob, due to their highly evolved nature and advanced technology, along with the natural defenses provided by their natural environment, don't put much effort into security measures. Which means Tenn is very easily able to infiltrate them once she finds the weak spots.
  • Wham Episode: Tenn uncovers the truth of the Meekrob ship discovered in Episode 7 and what it was carrying, and is dispatched to Earth by the Tallest to help find it.
