Recap / The Loud House S 4 E 6 Washed Up Recipe For Disaster

Go To

Washed Up: The Louds rent a boat for a relaxing day trip on the lake, but the family ends up marooned on a desert island.

Recipe for Disaster: Lincoln and Clyde, as Ace and Jack, investigate when they discover a frozen food company using Dad's recipes.

"Washed Up"

  • Broken Tears: Both Lynn Sr. and Rita are eventually reduced to tears when they see no way off the island for the next eight months.
  • Cell Phones Are Useless: The Louds can't call for help since all their cell phones got wrecked by the lake's water.
  • Darkest Hour: The morning after the Louds have arrived on the island. In short order, animals eat their food, their shelter gets destroyed, their SOS signal on the beach has been wrecked by the tides and as a result the one Coast Guard patrol boat in the area missed it, and since it was the last day of fishing season, the Coast Guard will stop making regular patrols across the lake, thus making it unlikely the Louds will get rescued soon.
  • Fooled by the Sound: A boat's engine makes a weird sound. Leni apologizes, thinking it's her own stomach as she didn't have much for breakfast.
  • Gasshole: Implied to be the case with Leni, who thought that she farted before the family was washed ashore in the deserted island. However, the farting sound was actually from the engine.
  • Irony:
    • Lincoln convinces Lucy to join him at Lake Eddy for the hunting of Plessy; by the end of the episode though, both missed their chance and only Lily knows his existence, and when she tried to tell him, she was misinterpreted.
    • When the kids freaked out, Lynn Sr. and Rita told them not to give up on themselves; later when all their hard work is destroyed, Lynn Sr. and Rita freak out, and the kids tell them not to give up.
  • Never My Fault: Flip chides the family for staying overtime and for losing his boat, without acknowledging the fact that the poorly made boat, with shoddy engine and painted-on oars, was bound to fail and caused the Louds to end up stranded. It just won’t dawn on him that his own failed creation and greed is what caused the trouble.
  • Quicksand Sucks: Lola and Lana wind up trapped in quicksand. Luckily the rest of the family is able to pull them out.
  • Robinsonade: The Louds get stranded on a deserted island.
  • Running Gag:
    • Lincoln getting sunscreen in his eye.
    • Lana eating the worms that Mr. and Mrs. Loud intend to use as bait for fishing.
  • Poor Communication Kills: In the final scene, Lily gets a surprise visit from Plessy (the monster Lucy wanted to hunt for); she tries to alert Lincoln to his presence, but he misinterprets her as telling him she wants to go back to the island and home is in the opposite direction, and she frowns in disgust.
  • Rule of Three: Lily pointing out something to her family; twice with Lynn Sr., once with Lincoln. The first is an incoming whirlpool which is initially misinterpreted as wanting to use her pacifier as a paddle, but is immediately caught on; the second is an incoming wave which is quickly noticed; the final time being the presence of Plessy, but this time it was not caught on and was misinterpreted as wanting to go back to the island.
  • Shout-Out: Mr. Coconuts calls the trip, a three hour tour.
  • Squick: Lisa's entire family react to her this way after she suggests searching through the island's animal droppings for edible seeds.
  • Stock Ness Monster: Plessy, the monster of Lake Eddy.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: When Flip comes across the Louds at the end, mad they went over the rental limit, he's informed about how they almost died and got stranded due to his boat. As such, he decides to waive the late fine and gives them a ride back to shore.

"Recipe for Disaster"

  • Broken Tears: Lynn Sr. breaks down crying when he discovers that his old recipe book is missing.
  • Cringe Comedy: When Lincoln and Clyde confront Kotaro at the ATM, he reveals that his great-aunt passed away. When Lincoln and Clyde don't believe him, Lucy shows up to confirm this, before leading him away.
  • Everyone Went to School Together: Downplayed: Not only does it turn out that Mildred Scalise was Lynn Sr.'s home-ec teacher, but it also turns out that Flip went to the same school.
  • Foreshadowing: In the middle of his emotional breakdown over his recipe book being stolen, Lynn Sr. makes a point of saying he started it up back during his home-ec class in middle school.
  • Fake Mystery: It turns out nobody stole Dad's recipe book; Leni thought it was a library book.
  • Hero of Another Story: The scene at the library at the end suggests that while Lincoln and Clyde were busy investigating Fresh Farms Frozen Foods, Lola was chasing after Leni all day to get Lynn Sr.'s cookbook back.
  • I Was Quite the Looker: Flip, as a child, is depicted with a slim build and jet-black hair. Surprisingly good-looking for someone who would become repulsive and messy in his later years.
  • Like Parent, Like Spouse: Rather, Like Teacher, Like Spouse. Mildred in her youth looked oddly similar to Rita, prompting many a speculation on what made Lynn Sr. choose her.
  • Mystery Episode: When Mr. Loud's cookbook goes missing, Lincoln and Clyde take the case as Ace Savvy and One-Eyed Jack to find who took it.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When confronting Mildred Scalise over her cookbook, it seems like Lincoln and Clyde only resulted in her going after Lynn Sr. for stealing her recipes. But then it turns out that Mildred was his home-ec teacher.
  • Painful Rhyme: Lynn Sr. attempts to rhyme "ditty" with "spaghetti", pronouncing the latter as "spaghitti". He still thinks it works, though.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Lincoln and Clyde try this twice in order to get into Fresh Farms Frozen Foods.
  • Plagiarism in Fiction: The driving force of the episode concerns Lincoln and Clyde believing Lynn Sr.'s recipes were being used without his permission. As it happens, those recipes were dual-authored along with his old middle school cooking teacher, Mildred Scalise.
