Recap / The Librarians S 3 E 07 And The Curse Of Cindy

Go To

A former Reality Television contestant wishing for genuine attraction from others finds a way to gain the love of all those around her. This attracts the attention of both The Librarians and DOSA, but they might not be able to resist the magic at work. Will Cindy end up using their knowledge of magic and artifacts to further her own goals, or will she be stopped in time?

This episode makes use of the following Tropes:

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Ezekiel helps Cindy learn the difference between genuine affection, and the obsessive effects of the Love Potion she uses.
  • Call-Back:
    • Ezekiel once again proves immune to the magical threat of the week.
    • The DOSA agent who recognised the Librarians was the same one rescued from the plane in the previous episode.
  • Eye of Newt: The potion Cindy uses requires the tears of the person to be loved as the final ingredient.
  • French Cuisine Is Haughty: Cindy has taken control of a French chef, who is horribly upset that she wants mac and cheese from a box.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Cindy realizes her mistakes, and tries to stop her own plan of spreading a Love Potion across the world via a missile.
    • Face–Heel Turn: Agnes, who initially helped a distraught Cindy by concocting love potions, betrays her to continue with the missile plan. It turns out that Agnes was possessed by Apep, and was using her to help cause chaos.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Eve notes that Flynn has always been "wily".
  • Love Potion: Cindy's (initial) solution to her problem. According to Jenkins, they're actually obsession potions that have been romanticized (natch) into love potions by poets.
  • My Nayme Is: The cultists, prop signs and (initially) the subtitles spell the Villain of the Week as “Cindi”, however both the episode title and Show Within a Show spell her name as “Cindy”. Ezekiel later highlights that she changed her name’s spelling to differentiate between her reality show persona and cult-like leader persona.
  • No-Sell: Cindy's Love Potion doesn't work on Ezekiel; Jenkins initially proposes that it's because Ezekiel is already completely obsessed with himself, but in reality it's because he's already in love with Cindy naturally.
  • The Power of Love: The real reason Ezekiel is immune to the potion's effects, instead of his narcissism.
  • Wham Shot: The last scene of the episode shows that Apep's coffin is in DOSA's possession.
