Go To

Ever the optimistic enhappifiers, Molly and Ollie decide to embrace a carbon-zero lifestyle to try and save the world... and learn the hard way that they may have bitten off more than they can chew. Libby, on the other hand, drags Scratch on a mission to prepare for a potential climate change-based apocalypse.

Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: This isn't the first show with Sammie Crowley as a writer where a smart girl voiced by Lara Jill Miller manages to build an underground bunker.
  • All for Nothing: Molly and Ollie make a litany of personal sacrifices trying to stop climate change, only to learn that their efforts hardly left a scratch.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Lampshaded; Scratch makes fun of Libby for believing in zombies, but when she retorts that some people don't believe in ghosts, he can only reply "Touché."
  • Crazy Survivalist: Libby has a shelter in the basement of her mom's bookstore in preparation for the Zombie Apocalypse.
  • Dark Reprise: Played for Laughs. The duo sing the "We can change Climate Change" song again, both are starting to doubt if they can even do it at all. Although the visualizations of them struggling to stop Climate Change are pretty funny to watch.
  • Deconstruction: Of Green Aesop. Molly and Ollie decide to go carbon neutral to stop climate change, but they find that it takes a lot of sacrifices to do so. They bike to Andrea's party to avoid using gasoline, but most of the route is uphill, so they arrive late. Giving up meat and dairy means they can't enjoy pizza for movie night, and to try to avoid using the fridge or the gas stove, they end up eating raw turnips. And once they achieve carbon neutrality, they find out that it has made almost zero impact on the environment. In the end, they realize that it takes mobilizing the entire community to actually make a difference.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Molly and Ollie both think they can live through a carbon-free lifestyle, only, they have to make a lot of sacrifices. For example, they become vegans, which means they have to survive off of turnips. Molly decides to grill them, only for Ollie to shoot down that idea since the stove uses gas, so they eat them raw. Both do not find it pleasant and Ollie tries to wash down the taste, but then Molly points out that the hose uses water, something he can't use. Their sacrifices are all for naught anyways when Darryl tells them that they barely made any difference.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: When Molly and Ollie do a Happy Dance when they think they stopped Climate Change, Darryl reveals that they barely made any changes at all.
  • Faux Horrific: Both Molly and Ollie react in horror upon seeing Darryl take a juice from the fridge and drink it.
  • Medium Awareness: Molly keeps singing beyond the end of the song before she realizes that it ended.
  • Running Gag: Libby zombie-proofing everything in her shelter — mattresses, helmets, blankets — by giving them retractable spikes.
  • Sanity Slippage: Molly goes a bit crazy in front of Ollie as they try to stay optimistic about their efforts to stop climate change.
  • Ship Tease: The episode's song is in the style of a love ballad duet between Molly and Ollie.
  • Skewed Priorities: Scratch is only worried about climate change when he realizes that it means no more ice-cream.
  • Title Drop: Molly declares herself and Ollie as "Carbon Zero Heroes" when they try to reduce their carbon footprint.
