Original air date: 2/12/2022 (produced in 2021)

Production code: 112a

When a ghost causes an ice storm in Brighton, only Molly's dad can save the town from eternal winter.

Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: Molly exclaims “Oh my cob,” something often said by Enid.
  • An Aesop: Don't let your failures hold you back; you don't have to be perfect at something to enjoy doing it.
  • Bait-and-Switch: It looks like Molly is about to suggest her dad be Sonia's ice-skating partner, but she offers instead.
  • Big Storm Episode: This episode revolves around a huge ice storm striking Brighton.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Despite their best efforts, Pete hurts himself and ruins the perfect performance. Thankfully, instead of going through with her threat of bringing eternal winter to Brighton, Sonia realizes that having fun is more important than winning. She leaves Brighton without further incident, finally lifting the curse.
  • Buffy Speak: Scratch doesn't know ice skating terminology, so he just refers to the triple Axel as "the spinny thing".
  • Close-Call Haircut: Sonia's flop at her last performance has one of her skates fly off, slicing a judge's hair bun in half to drape her head.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: The stress of getting back into figure skating after his humiliating exit with such high stakes drives Pete to binge on hot cocoa.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Pete's brother Billy McGee, who would later be introduced as an adult in "Twin Trouble", makes a small appearance in his flashback.
  • Endless Winter: Sonia agrees to do a pairs skate with Pete, but threatens to freeze Brighton over forever if the routine is less than perfect.
  • Epic Fail: During her final performance at the Global Games, Sonia Davis failed to pull off a triple Axel and landed so hard her skate flew off, nearly injuring the judges.
  • Eye Scream: Scratch gets one of his eyes knocked out by Sonia's ice projectiles. He complains that even though he's a ghost it's very painful and unpleasant.
  • Failures on Ice: Molly tries to be Sonia's ice-skating partner, but is completely lacking in experience and skill.
Scratch: The grace of a baby giraffe.
Sonia: Dear, I don't know what that was, but I wouldn't call it skating.
  • Foreshadowing: When Scratch explains Sonia Davis's backstory, Pete takes the most interest. From echoing Scratch saying figure skater to telling him what the correct term for a move was when he started using Buffy Speak.
  • My Greatest Failure: Sonia Davis haunts Brighton because she's haunted by her failure at the Global Games. It turns out Molly's dad Pete McGee suffered a similar setback when he was into figure-skating in high school.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Sonia is named after Olympic skater Sonja Henie.
  • Not So Above It All: Scratch mocks figure skating as boring but gets really into it once he sees it firsthand.
  • Punny Name: Pete's stage name as a figure skater was Blades, both referring to his skates and the flame motif of his costume.
  • Retail Riot: When they get to the grocery store, the McGees are greeted with the sight of shoppers panic-buying supplies for the big storm.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Pete goes on a rant about the pain of failing at figure-skating... then hastily adds that he's just guessing what Sonia is feeling.
  • Torso with a View: Sonia's icicle attacks leave holes through Scratch's body.
  • Writing Around Trademarks: Since the name "Olympics" is trademarked, they're referred to as the "Global Games" instead.
