Recap / The Dreamstone S 02 E 05 The Dark Side

Go To

Original Air Date (UK): Feb 19, 1992

With the Dreamstone's power dwindling, the Dream Maker and his friends take it to Planet Dreamstone to be recharged. The Urpneys attempt to ambush them, until both groups crash on the Dark Side, but all make it back to their respective places.

Tropes featured in the episode:

  • Call-Back: This episode refers to the events of "The Daydream Bubble" and finalizes the development of Planet Dreamstone throughout many previous episodes.
  • Defanged Horrors: Despite claiming the giant bug is dangerous to both the Urpneys and the Noops, the Dream Maker manages to negotiate and even nonchalantly feed it. In it's reappearance in "Wildit's Whistle" it enters the Land of Dreams with no wrathful intent except to again scare off the Urpneys, implying it was only playing ferocious to dupe them into leaving the heroes alone.
  • Downer Beginning: From both sides. Not only are Frizz and Nug Pulled From Their Day Off, but the Noops have been suffering several nightmares due to the Dreamstone weakening.
  • Enemy Mine: The Dream Maker deals with the giant bug in return for the Urpneys releasing them. Possibly subverted, as the episode (and it's follow up appearance) leaves it ambiguous as to how ferocious the monster truly was.
  • Look Behind You: The Dream Maker warns the Urpneys of the incoming giant bug.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The Urpneys seeing the bug behind them, though Blob's reaction is delayed.
  • Pulled from Your Day Off: Frizz and Nug.
  • Road Runner vs. Coyote: The Urpneys borrow from this trope even more than usual, planting numerous failed booby traps to capture the heroes.
  • Save the Villain: The Dream Maker covers for the Urpneys against the giant monster bug (perhaps).
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Frizz and Nug make a retreat after being saved from the monster, and drag a rather unwilling Blob into the ship with them.
  • Team Rocket Wins: More Argorribles than usual are shown to have successfully sent nightmares at the start of the episode due to the stone's weakened power.
