Over 70,000 Years Ago, Shambhala, Exact Location Unknown

King "Manju" Manjusandra nervously paces down a hallway. It is shortly after Bagan was defeated and sealed away. Much of the landscape is in ruins and the Mothra and Battra populations have been reduced to one each. Even worse than that, the planet's supply of mana has been drastically reduced and magic is dying out. Shapeshifters are being trapped in their current forms. Dragons are either disappearing or turning into ordinary reptiles. Yokai, fairies, and other races are becoming human. Mana-based technology is breaking down and the human lifespan is being reduced with each generation. The researchers have informed Manju that his grandchildren may only live to be a mere 500 and their own children may live less.

Working on the first hope.

Only certain places like Shambhala still have a lot of mana, and they'll have to drain it to fulfill their last hope. Manju enters a laboratory and meets his former archmage, Ghoshana, and former grand architect and life weaver, Kootakaar. They look upon a massive container full of fluid with an enormous creature inside. Kootakaar says the creature has incredible mana needs and asks why they had to make it so huge. Manju explains that it has to be huge to stand a chance against Bagan when he inevitably escapes imprisonment. Kootakaar confirms the other major powers have received the schematics for this prototype and are using them to create their own Guardian Beasts. The trio sadly drain all of the great city's mana into their creature, sealing it in crystal to wait until Bagan reawakens. Now, all of their technology and special abilities are no more. Manju is reminded that they never gave their Guardian Beast a name. With a bittersweet smile, he gives it a name that means "Alpha", "Anghi'ras".

Three days later, Battra discovered what had happened to Shambhala. Misinterpreting the situation and thinking the humans had selfishly reduced the world's mana, he tried to exterminate humanity, until Mothra defeated and sealed him away. Mortally wounded, she used the last of her power to regrow the world's forests and then laid an egg that would hatch into Mothra Lea's mother. Shambhala and the other great cities faded away into myth. The Guardian Beasts would awaken 30,000 years early, in the 2000's when the Age of Man became the Age of Monsters.

Sweet Apple Acres

Anguirus loads the last bunch of apples into a crate. Granny Smith thanks him and gives him leave to go to the train station, telling him Destroyah went ahead. He walks off, then notices Spike walking around moping. Spike is not paying attention to his surroundings and Anguirus stops him from walking into a hole and then into a tree. Anguirus puts him on his back as he walks and asks him what is wrong. Spike claims it is nothing, but Anguirus threatens to tell Twilight and he folds. Spike confides that he wishes that he weren't so weak, that he were older so that he can be more useful. Anguirus recalls how Garble and his gang were able to turn into giants and asks about that. Spike explains greed growth and how it is unreliable because it causes the dragon to go berserk, but now, Spike is considering it. Anguirus warns him not to rush his development. He has experience.

2001, Somewhere in Japan

Baragon, the Guardian Beast of Earth, is badly wounded and tunnels to Anguirus' resting place. The original Godzilla from 1954 had risen from the dead and was hellbent on destroying everything. Baragon and Gamera had awakened prematurely to deal with him, but found themselves no match. In desperation, Baragon retreated and found Anguirus. He pounds on the crystal, begging him to wake up, then passes out.

Rest now, Baragon.

Anguirus awakened and burst from the crystal. Seeing Baragon's half-dead form, he placed him inside the remnants of the crystal and sealed him up so that he could heal. Having given up his chance to absorb the rest of the mana, he lacks the ability to channel flames like he was meant to, and only has the ability to make his body red hot. Undeterred, he charges into battle against Ghost Godzilla.

After finishing his story, Spike is appalled that he would give up his chance to reach his full potential. Anguirus states that if he hadn't, his friend Baragon would have died. Besides, with time, he may develop his true abilities eventually. The two of them are similar because they have a lot of growing to do. Spike is brave, and in the future he will no doubt become a great hero. Until then, he just needs to have a little patience.

They arrive at the train station, where Destroyah waits with the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Spike asks if Garble screamed like a little girl while he was being beaten up, and Anguirus confirms it. The two Kaiju board the train and Destroyah orders the Crusaders to stay. As the train leaves, Spike calls out that when Anguirus gains the ability to breathe fire, it will look something like this. He breathes a three meter wide spray of fire for a few seconds. Anguirus congratulates him and says he'll keep that in mind.

On the Crystal Empire to Canterlot Train

Blade Dancer reads a book just as Xenilla wakes up from his nap. She tells him it looked like he was having a nightmare and asks if he wants to talk about it. He explains about the strange visions of the past he has been having, which he is sure was not caused by Sombra's powers because he's been having them long before he met Sombra. He knows someone in Canterlot who can help explain them.

Blade Dancer asks him about his relationship with Godzilla Junior. The night she tried to seduce Junior and failed, she managed to get him to open up about his past. He talked fondly of his mother and father, but only referred to Xenilla as his enemy, not his brother. Princess Cadance told her of a letter describing how Junior attacked Xenilla with everything he had when they met in the throne room, harder than when he fought Luna or the Gyaos flock. She asks what is going on, since judging by his stunt with the chessboard, he clearly loves his little brother. Xenilla admits that he doesn't consider Junior his enemy, but Junior hates him with every fiber of his being, because he tried to kill their father. Horrified, she asks why he would ever do that. He sighs and says it's a long train ride, and a long story.

Canterlot Celestial Courthouse

Godzilla Junior and Captain Blueberry Frost walk into the courthouse, which is filled with nobles, elected officials, reporters, and other VIP representatives from across the nation. He spots Prince Blueblood sitting in the second to front row. Some excited reporters are jotting down notes and quickly looking up at him every couple of seconds, Mayor Mare of Ponyville gives him a pleasant smile and a nod, more than a couple worried looks from various other members of the crowds; and a few enthusiastic ones who had to be told to stop clapping for a hero's welcome after a few hoof clacks. Godzilla notes that they are very similar to humans.

As the pair take their seats, Godzilla locks eyes with a periwinkle Pegasus with a multi-toned blue, dark purple, curly mane. He gets surprised because he can't tell if she is glaring at him or studying him.

Fancy Pants is sitting in the Judge's Seat and wearing formal robes. He smiles at Godzilla and Blueberry Frost and says it is time to begin. He asks Godzilla if he has a last name. Without hesitation, he answers, "Gojo", the last name of his mother Azusa. Fancy Pants says, "We welcome, King Godzilla Gojo the Second from the Kingdom of Terran Kaiju. Thank you for coming your majesty." Godzilla tries to ignore how weird being called that is. Blueberry Frost had earlier warned him about this.

Godzilla notices Princess Celestia is not here and asks about her. Fancy Pants explains Celestia had to take care of something and gave permission to start the inquiry without her. Blueblood explains in his own long-winded way that this inquiry is to clear up any misconceptions from the report Celestia gave after viewing Godzilla's memories earlier (like before, Blueberry Frost has to translate Blueblood's speech for Godzilla).

Fancy Pants says it is time for questions. A noblemare asks if Godzilla plans to annex any territory in Equestria, and he says no. A stallion asks what kind of creature his true form is, and he says a dinosaur. The stallion then asks what he eats, and he says he does not require food now that he's learned how to absorb energy, but before that, he was an omnivore. The mare who caught Godzilla's eye earlier, Moonbeam Glimmer, the same pony who denounced Godzilla and the other Kaiju on the radio earlier, speaks up and says that means Godzilla was a predator. A little disheartened by her tone, Godzilla says back when he had to eat, he never ate anything sentient. She asks what he did eat, and he answers whales and dolphins. Everypony in the room is horrified while he is oblivious. To him, dolphins were hyper aggressive surplus killers who killed for fun, forced mating to reproduce, and displayed a cruel intelligence he found more than a bit nasty to him in his earlier days when pods would attack him when out for a swim. He later got big enough that they wouldn't even try. Reptiles, like the lizards or snakes he'd find here and there were pretty passive, didn't eat too much, and largely just minded their own business even if they didn't seem too smart. So basically his idea of Good Animals, Evil Animals is the reverse of the typical view of cetaceans and reptillians like himself, and this caused the unease in the crowd.

Moonbeam sees her opening and asks him how often he has killed. He says he does not kill wantonly, only to save the lives of others. She says that means he does not hold all life as equal. Everypony except Godzilla can see where this is going. A reporter tries to end it by raising his hoof, but Moonbeam glares at him and he lowers it. Moonbeam reviews the report Celestia made and asks if it is true his father was king before him. He confirms this. She says she is a psychologist and this case intrigues her. She says since Godzilla Senior and Azusa Gojo were obviously not married, that makes him a bastard. Also, Senior hated humans, yet Junior protects them. Why?

Her comments hit a nerve, but determined to defend his late father's honor, he says Senior hated humans because they hurt him. She comments that when he first arrived here, Princess Luna and the Royal Guard hurt him, so how was that any different? Godzilla starts to get more and more agitated, and tries to explain how his father couldn't communicate with the humans to clear up the misunderstanding, but he's having trouble keeping his sentences coherent as he's not a skilled speaker, and she interrupts him and says she has one more question.

Moonbeam Glimmer: How do we know, that we're safe around you?
Godzilla Junior: I, don't want to hurt any of you.
Moonbeam Glimmer: And yet you did when you arrived. And you could have done much worse. You still can. You call yourself a king, look like history's worst tyrant, kill what's in your way at your own choosing, and follow an example of a father when it comes to dealing with those who hurt you. You're one of the most powerful monsters Equestria has ever seen...if you decided to one day you didn't like us, I dread how much damage you could do before anyone could stop you, if they could. So, what if you decide you don't like us one day? Or what if you went berserk like your father did? Then what? Who could keep you in check? Power needs to be feared.
Godzilla Junior: Your Princesses are powerful too, why don't you fear them?
Moonbeam Glimmer: We had 1,000 years to learn to trust the alicorns, and they're of this world with our morality. You look like one, but we all know you're not. So why would you follow our morals to begin with? You've already broken some, why not more?
Godzilla Junior: I don't want to- I'm not going to-

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/interrogation_by_faith_wolff_da2yy14png.jpg
Moonbeam is playing with fire.

The extremely stressed out Godzilla's mane starts glowing blue, as if he were about to fire his Atomic Breath. The crowd starts to panic and Fancy Pants bangs his gavel and orders Moonbeam to cut it out, but she ignores him and orders Godzilla to answer her questions. His eyes start to glow red the way they used to when he was frightened as a child. He demands to know why she is doing this.

Moonbeam Glimmer: Because, I care about Equestria. Because a horde of monsters has shown up out of nowhere. Because Equestria is in a crisis and who are we supposed to trust with this, you? We're scared of you, I'm scared of you. I honestly think the last thing Equestria needs is the greatest monster it's ever seen, one who's more than ready to kill as a first option, sitting in one of its cities accountable by next to nopony. If you really want to prove you're not a threat, why not let the Princesses petrify you and then we revive you when the situation calls for it. You wouldn't be conscious and we could then call you up when you're needed.

Godzilla knocks over his podium and steps forward until he's standing over her and asks if there is anything he can do to ease her fears. She says, "You're not of this world, you're not a pony; so we can't expect you to be like us… So, I really don't know how you could. To me, you're a sociopath; and I'm terrified of what you might do to others..." At this point, half of the crowd is trying to escape the room, Fancy Pants desperately asks somepony to shut Moonbeam up, and Blueberry Frost tries to maintain order. Moonbeam mutters, "I was wrong once, I can't be again." Godzilla asks what in the world that means.

Just as it seems things are going to get ugly, Princess Celestia enters the room in a flash of light, silencing all in the room. She non-verbally makes her displeasure known, so Blueberry Frost orders Sgt. Hammerbolt to escort Moonbeam from the room. Celestia pats Godzilla on the back and uses some calming magic on him. She apologizes for her tardiness but she has a guest who needed to be here.

A swarm of glowing butterflies enters the room and comes together to form Mothra Lea, in her Alicorn disguise. As the crowd starts gawking and muttering about how beautiful she is, she repairs Godzilla's podium and takes a seat next to him. Celestia introduces her as Princess Lea Mosura. Lea tells a gaping Fancy Pants that she is an Alicorn, but a butterfly in her true form. Godzilla is very happy to see her and starts to relax. Lea whispers that maybe she should do most of the talking for now.

Princess Celestia: Forty five thousand, six hundred seventy, and counting several births at the emergency hospital, two. That's the population of Canterlot, a city founded a thousand years ago that nearly came into ruin for the third time in its history. That population isn't just a number my little ponies, but the names of every pony, gryphon, minotaur, and beyond in both our city's citizenry and visitors that were here on that fateful night. These two kaiju, and their associates, came from another world; and yet they both fought to protect Equestria as if it were their own home on their own free will. Both here in Canterlot alongside myself and others, and in the Everfree alongside my beloved student and her company. I think they've earned enough for us to give them some real questions and not an interrogation. I trust any of those in attendence to respect the names of all present. Canterlot and Equestria have no enemies in this room, we shouldn't try to make any. Don't you all agree?

Fancy Pants, Mayor Mare, and Prince Blueblood lead the room into applause. Fancy Pants asks how long ago they met, and Lea answers fourteen years ago, when they successfully rescued many children from having their souls harvested by King Ghidorah. Mayor Mare asks if Godzilla and Lea are married, and Lea's reaction is to laugh and say she sees Godzilla as her little brother, causing him to mutter that he's three years older than her. The room starts cheering up, and a reporter asks if they know when the evil Kaiju will attack again. Lea says she and Princess Twilight have been working on a spell to detect them, and assures that they will be ready. Prince Blueblood asks who gave Godzilla his title as king. He's about to answer, but Lea cuts him off and explains that Godzilla Senior was called King of the Monsters by the humans out of respect and fear. When Senior passed away, Junior gained that title, and he earned it. He's made many friends of both humanity and Kaiju by applying his power the right way, in the service and protection of others, and she is honored to call him her best friend. Everypony is impressed, and Fancy Pants jokes that they could probably make a movie out of this.

Valencia Orange, the Manehattan representative, asks Godzilla why he is staying in Canterlot, and he jokes that no matter how powerful he is, Captain Blueberry Frost won't let him leave. The interview soon ends. An hour later, reports start coming in. The Griffins have called off their state of emergency, King Leo has invited the Kaiju to visit his undersea kingdom, tickets for the Neighagra Falls airshow have skyrocketed once word that Rodan is a Kaiju got out, and Prince Rutherford from Yakyakistan asked why such a strong being like Godzilla came in the form of a pony instead of a yak. The approval rating for the Kaiju has increased by thirty percent.

Canterlot Bar, about an hour later

Blueberry Frost orders Godzilla to disguise himself with a coat, scarf, goggles, and medical mask and to meet her at the bar. He finds her out of her armor for the first time since he met her, though she still brought her lance with her. She says she wants him to be her designated trotter so he can take her home after she's done drinking, and she wants him to relax and have fun for once. He says he cannot; he always has to be alert for danger. She says one can be alert without being so strung up; he looks so stressed that he might snap in half.

She then tells him that Blade Dancer is coming back in today. He groans and says that's just great, one really confusing person back in his life. She cannot believe how dense he is and flat out says Blade Dancer was flirting with him. He doesn't know what that term means, so she says it's what somepony does to another to show they are interested in mating. He does know what mating is, but says he was never interested in that or having children. Besides, the only female member of his species he is aware of, Raiga, is not interested in that either. She says relationships are also about forming emotional ties to one another. For years, Blade Dancer has been flirting with anypony around her, trying to find her soulmate. She's even flirted with her before she told her she doesn't swing that way.

The point is, Godzilla needs to acquire social skills so that he doesn't get caught off guard by ponies like Blade Dancer and Moonbeam Glimmer again, and the only way to do that is to have fun and interact with others. Plus, she's seen many scarred and shell shocked veterans in her day and he acts just like them. If they cannot find a chance to unwind and forget their troubles, they snap. The waitress, Berry Punch, recognizes him and walks out. He assumes that she fears him, but instead, she comes back with food and drinks on the house as thanks for saving the city. Godzilla reminds them that he doesn't have to eat, but Blueberry Frost stuffs some fries into his mouth and tells him to appreciate it. He admits it is tasty and starts to relax. As they start to banter, he says he heard a strange term the other day, "sausage burrowing", and asks what that means. She bursts into laughter and asks where he heard that from.

Mothra Lea retires to Twilight Sparkle's study and returns to her Changeling form, only a little winded from keeping up the disguise. She doesn't like this charade, but the princesses warned her that if the public saw her Changeling form, it could cause a mass panic.

A few minutes ago, the train from the Crystal Empire arrived and Xenilla immediately levitated up to the castle as fast as he could. He opens the window and enters the study. Lea prepares to defend herself, but he says he's not here to fight and he'd have to be a fool to try it with all four princesses here. He needs her help. She asks why she would ever help him, and he says she owes him one. She asks what he is talking about, and he says, "Infant Island, 4 years, 254 days, 16 hours, 2 minutes ago. You know, the day of the invasion?"

Infant Island, 2009

Mothra Lea received a telepathic distress call from Lora and Moll. Thanks to following a GDF submarine, the Mutations had located Infant Island despite the many protective spells and illusions that hid it from the world and launched an invasion. When she arrived, she saw the Mutations standing near her sacred tree where the two fairies had taken shelter. Xenilla suddenly turned around and ordered them to stand down and not attack it. Displeased at being denied such a bountiful source of mana, they turned on him. Krystalakk, Agon, Megaguirus, Gaira, Zedus, Jiger, Dagahra, Bar'ugun, and Zigra teamed up to try to kill him. Xenilla fended them off, while Mothra stayed in the sky, unable to understand what was happening.

Thank me later.

Eventually, Xenilla started to get overwhelmed, and the nine dogpiled and started beating the crap out of him, until Destroyah arrived and blasted them away. Xenilla caught his second wind and beat the nine into the ground. The nine retreated, knowing they didn't stand a chance against Destroyah. Xenilla rewarded Destroyah with an energy crystal to eat and she left. He started healing his own wounds, then Mothra swooped in, believing he was weakened enough to kill. He suddenly stopped her by floating a crystal up to her, then flew away. Inside the crystal box was Lora and Moll, unharmed.

After finishing the recollection, Xenilla says that there are many possible reasons why he did that, but they are irrelevant. What matters is that Lea owes him and he's cashing it in.

Hours Earlier on the Train

Xenilla tells Blade Dancer that he was literally born from Godzilla Senior's blood and he has no mother. Blade Dancer asks if that makes him a clone. He angrily says he is not a copy of Senior, as his genes are different. Anyway, as soon as he was born, he received visions of Senior destroying the world. Unable to tolerate this, as he likes how beautiful Terra is, he flew to the planet to kill Senior, saying it was a choice between his father and an entire world.

He trapped Baby Junior as bait to lure Senior to him, but Senior was assisted by the mecha M.O.G.U.E.R.A. and Xenilla lost. He barely managed to escape and fled to the dark side of the moon to go into a healing coma. When he woke up, several years had passed and Senior had died after battling Destroyah and suffering a meltdown. By the time this had happened, he realized it was too late to make amends with Junior; to him, Xenilla was just another monster.

Blade Dancer realizes he decided to play the part of the villain, and he compliments her intelligence. He took control of the Mutations and regularly led them on raids, to challenge Junior and the Defenders and make them stronger each time. With him in charge, he kept the Mutations' ferocity in check, keeping them from just destroying everything. After he had decided that the Defenders were strong enough to stave off any alien invasions, he decided the world had no need for the Mutations, so he led them on an invasion of Solgell Island. He knew full well that the Mutations were no match, and had Dimension Tide not interfered, they would have all been killed, leaving only himself and Destroyah. Destroyah is the only being to have figured out his scheme on her own, and she remained loyal to him; she was his only true ally. Thanks to him, Godzilla Junior has long since surpassed his father and will be able to take care of himself and the world. Xenilla claims that he's achieved everything he wanted.

Blade Dancer says that's not true. He doesn't have the love of his brother. He says that was a sacrifice he had to make to save the world. She says it is not too late. Equestria is a land of second chances. When they arrive, they are going to tell the princesses and together, they will tell Godzilla Junior the truth. He says he'll consider it, and she nuzzles him and says she'll support him every step of the way. Jokingly saying she'll "hold his hoof" if he gets scared about it, she's surprised and blushes when Xenilla quietly puts his hoof on hers while hanging his head.
