Recap / The Bridge Ch 31 Sins

Go To

In Canterlot Castle's tower, Mothra Lea draws her symbol on the floor with some magiwood ash. Xenilla surrounds them with his crystals, explaining that should something go wrong, the crystals will contain any explosions or surges of energy. The last thing they need is for him to go through Meltdown, as it would potentially wipe out the city. They banter for a bit, both clearly not happy with working together, but carry on nonetheless. Lea has Xenilla seat himself and she along with the Shobijin runs a sort of scan across him to check and see if any magic is afflicting him. To everyone's surprise, her Aura Vision detects some of her family magic buried deep inside of him; more specifically the type of magic that stores her ancestor's memories and gives it to future generations. They speculate that when Lea's mother carried Godilla Senior's blood into space, it was imbued with her magic. When Lea describes the type of magic to Xenilla, the latter has a horrified realization that the "future visions" he was born with that seemed to show Godzilla Senior destroying Terra might have not been events in the future but instead the past. Thus, his entire decision to have to try and kill his father might have been totally meaningless. Worried, he asks her to look at the buried memories.

The extinction hour.

Lea enters Xenilla's mindscape and finds it's not what she expected. She's had experience venturing into the minds of others before and compares Xenilla to them. Rodan's mindscape is an endless sky, marred by only a few storm clouds that represent his very few doubts and fears that refuse to quash his optimism. Anguirus' mindscape is a rocky canyon that only occasionally floods, yet remains constant; showing how he weathers his problems and remains determined. Godzilla Junior's mindscape is a sea with the occasional storm, showing how he is often plagued by worry for others and anger about his situation despite his calm moments. Xenilla's mindscape is eerily similar to Junior's, a rough, stormy sea with a depressing downpour. She is startled to find it represents a lot of doubt, sadness, and guilt, and she can find no traces of malevolence. She flies around and finds a two glowing gateways. In her own mindscape, gateways such as these lead to the memories of her ancestors. Her maternal line's gates were greens and golds, and her paternal lineage was orange and dark steel. One gateway is blue, which she concludes shows Godzilla Senior's memories. The other is green with gold trim, but looks like a mass of disorganized angles, which she concludes shows her mother's memories. She opens and enters it, then sees the visions Xenilla saw when he was first born. It turns out he grossly misinterpreted his visions. They were not depicting Godzilla Senior destroying Terra, they were depicting Bagan's original rampage from over 77000 years ago that caused the Toba Catastrophe. Lea is sickened and horrified to relive the original Mothra and Battra populations desperately battling against Bagan and becoming reduced to a population of one each before they were able to seal him away.

Back in the real world, Lea collapses and starts screaming her head off while going into convulsions. Xenilla is disoriented from the experience, but quickly picks her up and carries her out of the now sparking circle of runes and crystals. He is soon joined by Lora, Moll, and Twilight Sparkle, who arrived when she heard the screaming.

Meanwhile, Junior helps the drunk Blueberry Frost walk back to her quarters. Frost leans against him and says he is handsome. He asks if she is flirting with him, and she denies it. She then points out Celestia and Luna talking with Cadance and Shining Armor. Junior is momentarily confused about why they are called Prince and Princess when they rule an Empire, then is shocked when he senses Xenilla's presence nearby. He tries to calm down by reminding himself that Xenilla was supposed to come today, but Blueberry Frost looks at the royals and asks where Xenilla is, since he was traveling with them. Junior gets suspicious and thinks Xenilla is up to no good, then he senses Mothra Lea's magic. Without hesitation, he charges up the tower.

Xenilla tries to hold the thrashing Lea down, while Lora and Moll try to calm her down with an enchanted song and Twilight tries her spells. Twilight asks what happened, so the Shobijin briefly explain how Lea just relived the deaths of over 400 of her ancestors. Junior bursts into the room and completely misinterprets the situation, thinking Xenilla is attacking Lea and that Twilight is protecting the Shobijin from him. Horrified, Xenilla backs away from her and tries to explain the situation, but when he calls Junior "Brother", Junior loses his temper and tackles him. They burst through the wall and start falling toward Canterlot Mountain. While in freefall, Junior bites Xenilla's collar and fires his Atomic Breath while maintaining the bite. Xenilla's torso and right shoulder get burned, then he takes the brunt of the impact with the ground. Xenilla is caught between staying the path he has for years and fighting back, or trying to live up to his promise to Blade Dancer to stop it. Junior meanwhile is dead-set on one thing, killing Xenilla.

The royals see the two falling towards the mountain. Celestia asks Shining Armor to maintain order in the city while she, Luna, and Cadance investigate. As they fly off, Shining orders all the guards present to clear the streets and prepare to evacuate the city if needed. Blade Dancer prepares to follow the orders, but looks up and sees crystals on the mountainside and realizes Xenilla is fighting.

Xenilla is beaten to a bloody pulp, as Junior easily smashes or blasts through any crystal barrier he tries to put up. Xenilla spits out teeth and coughs up blood as he tries to explain that he wasn't attacking Lea, but Junior is not having it. He resumes his attack, and soon, Junior's using up so much energy that his scars are being visible again. When Xenilla sees all the old injuries Junior had accumulated over the years, he's horrified as he realizes the cost of his plan to make Junior stronger. As Junior lists all of Xenilla's known crimes, his energy starts to turn from blue to red. His body becomes insanely hot and red splotches appear all over his body. Junior is going through Meltdown. Xenilla tries to tell him that he's dying if Junior keeps this form up, but Junior doesn't listen and prepares to finish him off.

Celestia, Luna, and Cadance arrive and blast Junior away, knocking him into the mountain and burying him under a pile of rubble. Junior quickly frees himself with a Nuclear Pulse and charges at the downed Xenilla. He ignores Cadance trying to blast him, but Celestia's more powerful beam forces him to stop. He orders them to stop interfering. Just as Luna is about to assist, Blade Dancer arrives and steps in front of Xenilla, holding out her sword and ordering Junior to back off. Junior knows he has several ways to get past her, but they all involve killing or maiming her, and he can't do that. He tries to get around her, but she's too fast. Luna goes up to him and begs him to calm down. He wants nothing more than to charge through the defenses and finally kill Xenilla, but knows the cost would mean killing Blade Dancer and probably seriously hurting the alicorns he considers friends. That sort of "What I want first" was character of his predecessors and not Junior, but he is scared of how tempted he is to do it. He reluctantly relents and shuts off his Meltdown.

Celestia and Cadance conjure up restraints for Junior while Blade Dancer tends to Xenilla. Celestia is upset about what has happened, while Luna begs her to hear Junior's explanation first. Suddenly, Cadance cries out in pain and clutches her stomach. Surprised, Celestia and Luna ask her what is wrong, when Twilight, Lora, and Moll arrive. They frantically explain how Xenilla was helping them tend to Lea, and that they finally managed to get her to sleep peacefully. Junior considers this information and starts berating himself for his mistake, especially since he knows Lora and Moll would never lie to him.

Cadance stumbles from her pain and Celestia supports her. Celestia says that regardless of the misunderstanding, Junior must be locked up for the time being. Xenilla surprises everypony by asking them to let Junior go. He whispers to Blade Dancer that it was hopeless that the brothers could ever reconcile. Blade Dancer loses her temper and yells at Junior, informing everypony of Xenilla's dark secret.

Blade Dancer: The war, all the conflict he caused between you two. He wanted to toughen you up, keep you safe so that what happened to your father wouldn't happen to you. He never wanted to take your world, he was just trying to protect and keep his little brother safe!

The Shobijin comment that this seems to be the truth, based on what they saw of Xenilla's mind. Junior is absolutely conflicted about this, but he trusts Lora and Moll's word. Then he becomes angry again, as this means Xenilla lied to him and manipulated his life and the lives of so many innocents for over twenty years. Xenilla attempts to talk to him as Junior approaches; but his sibling just cuts him off by declaring that he hates him. Then Junior apologizes to the others for all the trouble he had caused and walks down the mountain to be alone for a while. Luna tries to follow him, but Celestia tells her to give him some space.

Somewhere in the Southern Swamps, Queen Chrysalis plots in her hive hidden inside a vast cave. She remembers how unlike Tirek and Sombra, she didn't attack Equestria exactly a thousand years ago, but instead waited for Nightmare Moon to be banished so that Celestia would be on her own. She started building up her strength and the strength of her hive by draining the love of remote cities like Timbucktu, but then Celestia caught up and defeated her. After escaping from imprisonment, she and her Changelings laid low for centuries until the Canterlot Wedding incident. But then Twilight Sparkle foiled that plan and then the one with the magic boosting comet. Twilight turned one of their fortresses into a prison, until a few weeks ago when she tricked Twilight into letting them out.

Chrysalis is obsessed with getting revenge, and she wants them to know it was her who did it. Recent news troubles her. She has spies all over Equestria and she knows all about the recent arrival of the Kaiju. The Changeling who masqueraded as Slendermane was also assigned to spy on Applejack and possibly kidnap the Cutie Mark Crusaders, until she was nearly killed by Destroyah. Chrysalis decides she needs help and opens a secret tunnel in her throne room. She channels her lustful thoughts. Lust for power, lust for pleasures, lust for revenge, lust for seeing your enemies suffer as you destroyed everything they loved. And lust to start the cycle of torture all over again. This draws out her greatest treasure, a book of dark magic. She notes that most books of this nature are second hand accounts by amateurs, but this is the real deal, one of four of its kind.

The book's appearance and writing would drive an ordinary being mad, but she has no fear of it. The book updates in real time, and she tries to find her other three "classmates" to team up with them. Discord, who represented gluttony, has turned over to the side of good. She sneers and comments she always thought he was an idiot. Sendak, who represented greed, passed away and passed his role onto his own student Tirek. The book cannot locate him, so she concludes he's either still in Tartarus or too weak. She thinks about King Sombra, who represented wrath. She had respected him for being so powerful and intelligent. However, the book keeps flip-floping over whether he is alive or dead.

Suddenly, she feels extremely cold even in this humid swamp and looks up to see a black portal open. Ten bear-sized beetles emerge from the portal just as ten of Chrysalis' guards step in to defend their queen. Because they don't hold has much power as a regular Kaiju, these drones merely shrank down instead of changing into a native species. Outside the window, Chrysalis sees another portal open and Legion steps out in her true form, 168 meters tall. After a few seconds, she shrinks and turns into a Changeling Queen, and she flies into the chamber. Chrysalis is shocked at this being who looks so similar to herself, except Legion is much larger than her.

A meeting of the queens.

In a cold monotone, Legion asks if she is Queen Chrysalis, and she confirms it. Legion introduces herself. Chrysalis angrily approaches her and demands to know how she arrived. Legion's drones prepare to attack, but Legion tells them to stand down. Legion explains that she is a messenger for her master. Chrysalis laughs and says she is no queen if she follows someone else, but Legion says even a queen has to obey a god. Chrysalis asks what her master wants, so Legion signals to one of her drones. It holds up a block of obsidian, then shatters and eats it. Inside the block is King Sombra's horn. Chrysalis recognizes it and is shocked. Legion says her master wants a team up. If Chrysalis answers his questions and works with him, he will grant her wish. Chrysalis says her wish is for all Alicorns in this land to be eliminated.

Legion says her master's question is this. All good magic in this land comes from the Tree of Harmony, so where did the dark magic wielded by Chrysalis, Sombra, Tirek, and Discord come from? Chrysalis remembers how a thousand years ago, the four of them were taught magic by a powerful being whom they promised to free. She decides to use this alliance to her advantage to free him, sure he will be able to defeat Legion's master and claim his domains for himself. She shows Legion the book and turns to a page that depicts Chrysalis, Tirek, Sombra, and Discord standing before a goat-like figure. Legion can sense his energy and concludes he's roughly as powerful as Bagan. Chrysalis asks her if her master has ever heard of a place called Tambelon.
