Recap / The Boondocks - S2 E13: "The Story of Gangstalicious Part 2"

Go To

Riley attempts to get Gangstalicious to do a remix with the Lethal Interjection crew. But a tell-all book soon puts Gangstalicious' entire career in jeopardy.

Tropes:

  • Broken Pedestal: Riley starts to come to grips that Gangstalicious might by gay and confronts him about it. To his relief, Licious claims that he's not (he still is, but keeps quiet about it).
  • Cure Your Gays: Robert spends half of the episode attempting to instill masculine interests onto Riley after the latter starts obliviously emulating Gangstalicious' effeminate interests and clothing line.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Riley is as homophobic as he always is, despite blindly following the painfully obviously gay style of Gangstalicious. Robert, being an elderly African-American man, is blatantly homophobic with how he handles the possibility of Riley being gay. Ruckus, also being an elderly African-American man and a proud Conservative, drops all subtlety and hurls homophobic insults at him. And then there's the Lethal Interjection Crew who refuse to work with Lish on the collaboration they were planning upon finally learning (or confirming, as Macktastic always had his suspicions) that he's gay.
  • Downer Ending: Gangstalicious' career is probably damaged beyond repair thanks to being Forced Out of the Closet. Could be a Bittersweet Ending as at least Riley still respects him (after still denying that he's gay, but it counts), he makes an appearance in the "Dick Riding Obama" music video possibly hinting that he was able to salvage his career, and "Good Times" implies that he has his own credit card endorsement.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Every one of Gangstalicious' fans drop him like a bad habit once they learn that he's gay, even though his demeanor, music (especially the "Homies Over Hoes" video), and clothing line had an Orgy of Evidence just laying there.
  • Forced Out of the Closet: Licious gets outed by an ex-video girl.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Grandad says to Ruckus at one point: "Maybe this is just some kind of crazy sitcom misunderstanding?"
  • Previously on…: A recap of the first Story of Gangstalicious episode is shown before the episode starts properly.
  • Sequel Episode: To "The Story Of Gangstalicious", natch.
