Gumball: I'm sorry, but Darwin isn't available right now, or ever again. Please, get a life, stop texting, and NEVER CALL AGAIN AFTER THE BEEP. BEEEEP!

Darwin gets addicted to using his and Gumball's new cellphone, and Gumball incurs the wrath of a Space Invaders-style 8-bit video game spider named Ocho.

Tropes:

  • Always Need What You Gave Up: Gumball makes the incredibly brash decision to destroy several appliances because he thinks his new phone will have all their features - unfortunately, he doesn't think to check if the phone actually does beforehand.
  • Bait-and-Switch: We're led to believe that Gumball is the one to get addicted by the phone — then Gumball gets disillusioned with it and gives it to Darwin, who gets even more obsessed with it.
  • Big "NO!":
    • Darwin gives one after Gumball jokes that his tail has fallen off.
    • Gumball gives one when he thinks Darwin died, but he sees he's alive and cuts it off before finishing.
  • Bittersweet Ending: A more lighter example. Darwin overcomes his phone addiction but the house is in disrepair after Ocho's meltdown. Though Gumball finds solace in giving Darwin his just desserts.
  • Bowdlerise: The Bulgarian dub of this episode cuts the part where Darwin gives his phone number to Bobert and Bobert comments that the phone number spells "poop" in binary code.
    • The Australian and New Zealand version of this episode had a strange edit: Gumball calling Darwin a "noob" was muted slightly to get rid of the long "o" sound, making it almost sound like "knob" (which, as an insult, isn't any better). Cartoon Network Asia also censored the word, "noob", but that channel muted the entire word rather than part of it.
  • Conspicuously Light Patch: The cement bricks on the house are clearly not the same shade as the ones Gumball and Darwin are shaping up and placing down after Ocho destroys the roof of their house.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Ocho.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The episode opens with Gumball batting appliances he think his new cellphone will replace out of the house, before actually checking if his phone has those features.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Gumball (accidentally) insulted Ocho and his mother. Ocho destroys part of his house and tries to murder him and Darwin.
  • Disney Death: Ocho appears to have blown Darwin into pieces, but it seems when he's attacking someone they get three lives.
  • Droste Image: One scene transition is of Darwin coming out of an envelope, opening his mouth to reveal another envelope with another Darwin.
  • Eat the Bomb: Inverted. Gumball muffles the sound from a firecracker by sitting on it. Then he coughs up smoke.
  • Emoticon: Darwin spells out a few vocally before showing them with his face.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Gumball warns Darwin about giving their number out to just anyone after he gives it to Ocho, then announces their new phone and its numbers as soon as they board the school bus.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: Ocho claims he doesn't want to scare anyone right after intimidating Gumball when he points out to him how intense he can be.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Gumball makes Darwin instinctively smack his face with a brick after attempting to take the high ground regarding his phone addiction while also giving Gumball a hard time throughout the day.
  • Not Listening to Me, Are You?: Gumball tries to get Darwin's attention while the latter is playing on the phone:
Gumball: [Sighs] Darwin, we need to talk.
    Darwin: Uhh yeah.
Gumball: You know, I love you man.
    Darwin: Uh huh.
Gumball: But... I think you have a problem with that phone!
    Darwin: Yeah.
Gumball: So I've arranged for your butt to be surgically grafted onto your face.
    Darwin: Yeah, yeah sure great.
    Gumball: YOU'RE NOT EVEN LISTENING!
  • Reflexive Response: When Darwin claims to have kicked his cellphone addiction, Gumball makes a fake ring tone, causing Darwin to reflexively slam the brick in his hand (which resembles his old brick cellphone) into his face.
  • Skewed Priorities: Mr. Small's office catches on fire while he and Gumball are in it, and Darwin pokes in just to grab his confiscated cellphone.
  • What Are Records?: Gumball and Darwin are utterly perplexed by the concept of a mobile phone that can only make phone calls.
