Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) S04E14 "The Turtles and the Hare"

Go To

It's Easter Sunday and Shredder and Krang have invented a ray that makes people timid and subservient like rabbits.

Tropes:

  • Big "NO!": Shredder lets out one when Hokum causes the Docilizer ray to zap him.
  • Brick Joke:
    • Upon entering the Fairy Tale dimension, Leonardo and Raphael encounter Jack, who informs them he cuts down the beanstalk every hournote . While the turtles and Hokum are being chased down the stalk by the giant, Jack starts cutting it.
    • Before the situation with the Docilizer arose, April was having trouble finding an Easter Bunny for the Channel Six Egg Hunt. At the end of the episode, she finds the perfect candidate in Hokum, who is an actual rabbit.
  • Easter Episode: Donatello creates an Easter egg machine for Channel 6, there are anthropomorphic rabbits, Krang's Evil Plan involves making people act like timid rabbits, etc.
  • Fairy Tale Free-for-All: Donatello manages to locate a crystal need to cure their human friends in what can only be described as a "Fairy Tale Dimension", a World of Funny Animals (and people) reenacting classic fairy tales.
  • In a Single Bound: Hokum reveals that he can jump really high, as seen when he turns the Docilizer onto Shredder. Unsurprising since he is a hare.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Zigzagged. Hokum Hare almost ensures the villains' plan succeeds by inadvertently turning on the Docilizer broadcast. After Shredder calls him a "stupid rabbit", Hokum makes for it by leaping on top of the broadcast tower and kicking the transmitter so that it aims at Shredder.
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: According to Hokum, the ending of Jack and the Beanstalk where the giant died after falling off the stalk was just a fairy tale. Instead, he just gets riled from falling off it every hour.
  • Now You Tell Me: Upon encountering the turtles, Bebop and Rocksteady attempt to use the Docilizer on them, only for Krang to tell them (in a berating manner) that mutants are immune to the ray.
    Bebop and Rocksteady: Uh, oh!
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In order to test Krang's Docilizer, Bebop and Rocksteady infiltrate Channel Six dressed in bunny suits. Unfortunately, their faces are still shown, so April is able to recognize them when they come in.
Rocksteady: Oh, man, these disguises don't fool nobody!
  • Pepper Sneeze: To get the Turtle-Com back from the giant, Raphael knocks over a pepper shaker, causing the giant to sneeze while Raphael snatched the com back.
    Raphael: Gesundheit!
  • Supernatural Fear Inducer: Krang's new invention the Docilizer that reduces people into fearful beings.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: After Shredder calls Hokum a "stupid rabbit" for helping the villains' plan, the irate rabbit jumps to the top of the microwave tower and kicks the broadcast satellite so that the Docilizer ray hits Shredder, reducing him to a timid man who immediately takes shelter upon returning to the Technodrome.
  • Tempting Fate: While climbing down the beanstalk while being pursued by the giant, Leonardo comments they need to get down faster. A second later, there's a yell of "Timber!" down below as Jack cuts down the stalk.
