Recap / Teen Titans Go S 5 E 3 And 4 Kabooms

Go To

The Titans are excited to see the "Babies VS Dogs" movie, and afterwards decide to film their own movie.

  • Attack Drone: In Part 2, Starfire mishears her position in charge of "Wardrobe" as in charge of "War Drones", and creates a flying robot that shoots at Robin.
  • Call-Back: When it's time to see "Babies VS Dogs: The Movie", Robin declares that it's time to Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.
  • Conversational Troping: In Part 2, Beast Boy and Cyborg have a lengthy conversation about engaging in tropes when writing the script for their film, even stating that they'll "hang a lantern" over one self-referential plot point.
  • Disrupting the Theater: The Titans loudly complain while watching "Babies VS Dogs: The Movie" in Part 1, though it also appears that they are the only ones in the theater during the airing.
  • Hollywood Hacking: The Hackers in "Babies VS Dogs: The Movie" engage in this, able to open wormholes in their own reality just by typing on keyboards, and having big "YES/NO" keys to initiate or deactivate their master plan.
  • Intrepid Fictioneer: The Titans, upset over the Baby and Dog deciding to talk about their backstories when trapped by evil Hackers in the "Babies VS Dogs" film, use Raven's magic to enter the film itself to add even more action.
  • Mr. Exposition: Robin tries to be one, explaining why he loves movies and the history of the series they want to see, but the other Titans only care about action scenes and Kabooms. In the end of Part 1, it's asking Robin to give a speech about his tragic backstory that bores the evil Hackers into submission.
  • Multi-Part Episode: Part 1 has the Titans see "Babies VS Dogs: The Movie" in a theater, and Part 2 has the Titans make their own movie inspired by it.
  • Plagiarism in Fiction: At the end of Part 2, the movie that the Titans make steals scenes and the plot from "Babies VS Dogs: The Movie", resulting in something completely unoriginal...which everyone but Raven is thrilled about because it's just like a real Hollywood movie!
  • Prima Donna Director: In Part 2, Robin cites his over-controlling nature and Control Freak tendencies when stating why he'd make the perfect director for their movie.
  • Shout-Out:
    • In Part 1, when Robin says it's time for a team-building exercise, Beast Boy's suggestion is the plot of Up (even mentioning a dead wife), Starfire's is the plot of Ice Age (even mentioning a funny rodent as comic relief), and Cyborg's is the plot of Aladdin (including a princess with a tiger).
    • In Part 2, the Titans (except for Robin) decide to make the film about themselves, and toss around names including Seth Rogen, Helen Mirren, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for who should play them.
  • Show Within a Show: "Babies VS Dogs: The Movie", the movie that the Titans see in Part 1.
  • Take That!: At the start of Part 2, when Robin suggests making their own movie, Cyborg points out that they completely lack talent. Beast Boy then looks directly into the camera when stating that a complete lack of talent has never stopped anyone before. At the end, they also make a joke over Plagiarism in Fiction.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: When the Titans enter the movie world but fail to win against the evil hackers because they weren't paying attention to the exposition that would've revealed their weakness, the Titans decide to just bore the hackers into submission with their own long-winded expositional monologues.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: In Part 2, the Titans end up fighting over creative differences, nearly tearing themselves apart until the magic from their opposing ideas transforms the subpar work they've done so far into beautiful costumes and make-up work.
  • Time Skip: After the Titans are able to create a legible script and decent costumes from the magic of their creative differences, it cuts to "Twelve dollars and three days later" when they've finished filming.
