Recap / Teen Titans Go S 3 E 41 To 45 Island Adventures

Go To

The Titans end up shipwrecked, and have to survive five days on a deserted island.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Robin intends for this to occur in "Crazy Desire Island", but all of the Titans are perfectly happy with what they wish for despite Robin trying to add some ironic twist to them and make them grateful for what they currently have. The only one that plays it straight is Raven, who wishes to go back home to Titan Tower and ends up immediately fed up with the other Titans' antics to the point of wanting to return to the island, but it still ends up twisted because Robin himself was about to be kissed by the wish-version of Starfire and ends up sadder over the wish being undone than Raven was with the wish itself.
  • Deserted Island: The series is set on one, and is so deserted that attempting to leave via Raven's magic or Starfire's flight ends up completely ineffective.
  • Dirty Coward: In "Pure Protein", Robin tries forcing everyone to fight each other to test their skills, and ends up abandoning the others when the alien he called in proves too much to handle while the others all work together to befriend the alien. Fittingly, he's the only one that actually ends up with his skull collected by the alien.
  • Dissonant Serenity: In "Coconut Cream Pie", Raven reacts to being shipwrecked and ending up as the group's "Mary Ann" by obsessively baking coconut cream pies with an intentionally dissonant and uncharacteristic smile on her face.
  • Drunk with Power: The first wish made in "Crazy Desire Island" is Cyborg wishing that he and Beast Boy were famous rap musicians, and Beast Boy ends up claiming all of the fame for himself. Cyborg's still happy for his friend, to the anger of Robin, who wanted Cyborg to learn some kind of lesson from the experience.
  • Eat That: As part of Robin's "Island Survival" challenges in "Pure Protein", the episode's Title Drop comes from Robin trying to force the other Titans into eating protein-rich bugs.
  • Grand Finale: "The Titans Show", the final part of the miniseries, has the Titans fight against a whole bunch of evil villains (including Control Freak, Trigon, and the H.I.V.E. Five) with help from all of the characters and props they'd previously encountered during the series (such as the millionaires and the dinosaurs).
  • Here We Go Again!: "The Titans Show" ends with Control Freak deciding that the huge Grand Finale fight scene they just had was far more entertaining than the rest of the Island Adventures series combined, and starting a "Round 2" involving villains like Slade and the Joker.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In "The Titans Show", while the other Titans complain about having run out of things to do after the past four days, Robin's still excited, and compares their Island Adventures so far to a special week-long television event.
  • Running Gag: In "Pure Protein", Robin repeatedly throws Beast Boy's stuff into the ocean when he tries to cheat at his "Island Survivor" challenges by ordering food or playing with friends.
  • Saying Too Much: In "The Titans Show", the Titans only realize they're on a fake island when the catchy song recapping their Island Adventures so far reveals it to them.
  • Self-Deprecation: In "The Titans Show", when the Titans learn that they've actually been filmed by Control Freak the whole time, Starfire asks why someone that clearly hates them would want to watch them. Beast Boy then brings up some of the reviews of their actual show.
  • Shout-Out: "Crazy Desire Island" starts with Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Raven befriending sports equipment with drawn faces like in Cast Away. Later in the episode, Starfire's wish to be a cat includes a segment where she's running through space on a rainbow like the Nyan Cat meme.
  • Special Edition Title: Instead of the regular Teen Titans Go! opening, the episodes have a more stylized title sequence explaining the premise of the mini-series.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: Every part takes direct inspiration from a famous work set on an island.
    • "Coconut Cream Pie" is one to Gilligan's Island, with Beast Boy as Gilligan, Cyborg as The Skipper, Starfire as Ginger, Robin as The Professor, and Raven as Mary Ann. It even turns out a millionaire and his wife were also on the boat with the Titans.
    • "Pure Protein" is one to both Survivor and Predator. In the first half, Robin forces the other Titans to split into teams and compete in an "Island Survival" challenge in order to test their skills, as well as make them film "confessional" segments. Then the final round of "Island Survival" has Robin calling in a large, intimidating alien hunter to chase the Titans through the jungle. The alien and Cyborg even do the iconic Epic Handshake after they've befriended each other and part ways.
    • "Open Door Policy" is one to Jurassic Park, with the Titans coming across a group of still-living dinosaurs on the island and decide to try training them, with Robin specifically wanting to teach a raptor how to open a door like a "clever boy", but the dinosaurs end up rebelling after being augmented with science.
    • "Crazy Desire Island" is one to Fantasy Island, with Robin finding a magical bush and using it to grant the wishes of the other Titans while warning that they should Be Careful What You Wish For (because they just might get it).
    • "The Titans Show" is one to The Truman Show, with the Titans suddenly realizing that the deserted island is actually fake, and find out Control Freak's trapped them and has been filming their adventures for a group of the world's greatest villains.
  • Something We Forgot: "Pure Protein" ends with four of the Titans befriending the Predator expy and wishing him luck on his journey, but then they realize they forgot about what happened to Robin, and the last shot before the credits is Robin's skull (including spikes for his hair) being turned into a Human Head on the Wall in the alien's Trophy Room.
