Recap / Tale Spin The Bigger They Are The Louder They Oink

Go To

The twenty-fifth episode of TaleSpin.

Baloo becomes upset when Rebecca decides to buy a large and ugly pig (not-so-affectionately named "Hogzilla" by Baloo) to hunt truffles rather than a new pontoon for the Sea Duck. Rebecca refuses to believe that her idea may not be good, and as a result, she gets herself and Hogzilla captured by Pygmies. It's up to Baloo and Kit to save Rebecca.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Hogzilla goes on a ballistic rampage whenever he hears the word "Bacon". It becomes a Chekhov's Gag when Baloo and Rebecca weaponize him to escape from the Pygmies.
  • Captured by Cannibals: Rebecca's truffle hunting expedition turns sour when she and Hogzilla, the pig she brought to sniff the valuable fungus out are found by Pygmies who try to cook them. The biggest irony is, the Pygmies seem to have plenty of truffles; they use them in the soup that Rebecca nearly becomes a part of.
  • Crush Parade: Near the end of the episode, when the guard is about to begin his shift, he gets run over by Baloo, Kit, Rebecca, Hogzilla, and the Pygmies.
  • Damsel in Distress: Rebecca falls into this territory when she and Hogzilla are captured by the Pygmies. It's up to Baloo and Kit to rescue them.
  • Ditzy Genius: Rebecca is an excellent businesswoman who quickly turns Baloo's cargo business around when she buys it. Unfortunately, she isn't nearly as Street Smart as Baloo and is tricked by criminals more than once. This episode has her trying a few get-rich-quick schemes of her own, resulting in her being attacked by the Nomads and nearly stewed alive by the Pygmies.
  • Dog Walks You: A variant; after Rebecca buys Hogzilla, Baloo tells him "Bacon", which results in him going on a rampage and dragging Rebecca, who is holding onto his leash, along.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Hogzilla eats Wildcat's lunchbox and wrench, Rebecca's wastebasket, broom, rug, and pacifier, the Sea Duck's controls and life preserver, and the guard's clipboard and hat.
  • Furry Confusion:
    • Wildcat is an anthropomorphic lion, and he makes an appearance in this episode, particularly when Hogzilla eats his (Wildcat's) lunch. When Baloo, Rebecca, Kit and Hogzilla arrive on the Island of Zibaldo, they encounter a non-anthropomorphic lion who tries to hunt them.
    • While anthopomorphic pigs such as Sheriff Gomer Cleghorn from "Citizen Khan" and Officer Malarkey from "Bringing Down Babyface" have made appearances in the series, this episode features non-anthropomorphic pigs, including Hogzilla.
  • Gilligan Cut: This exchange after Baloo calms Hogzilla down after he (Hogzilla) destroys Rebecca's office:
Rebecca: One of these days, Baloo, one of these days!
Baloo: Aw, Becky, you're just jealous cause' I have a way with animals!
(Cut to Baloo struggling to keep Hogzilla under control as he (Hogzilla) eats the Sea Duck's control panel)
Baloo: Get that animal off! It's eating the controls again!
Kit: Come on, Pig! How bout' a nice life preserver?
    (Hogzilla eats the life preserver)
Rebecca: What's wrong, Baloo? Lost your way with animals?
  • Goo Goo Getup: As part of her plan to retrieve truffles from the Island of Zibaldo, Rebecca disguises Hogzilla as a baby in order to get him past a security checkpoint that doesn't allow pigs.
  • Hat Damage: At the beginning of this episode, when Rebecca steals ostrich feathers from the Nomads, the Nomads chase after her and Baloo. They fire arrows, one of which goes through Baloo's hat.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: This exchange:
Baloo: (referring to Hogzilla) Whoa-ho now, Becky, I'm not putting that creature into my beautiful Sea Duck!
    Rebecca: And just why not?
Baloo: Because it's messy, loud, obnoxious, ugly, and... *sniff* smelly.
Rebecca: Well, so are you. Besides, it's my plane.
Baloo: Who is she callin' messy?
  • Insane Troll Logic: This exchange when Baloo, Kit, and Rebecca try to sneak Hogzilla past the guard:
Guard: Wait a minute! That looks like a pig to me!
Baloo: Takes after her mom, doesn't she?
Guard: We don't allow pigs in this jungle!
    (Hogzilla eats the Guard's clipboard)
    Rebecca: You're insulting my child!
    (Hogzilla oinks)
Guard: Sounds like a pig to me!
Rebecca: Nope, that was just a burp!
Guard: Eeee! And it smells like a pig, too!
Kit: Well, if it looks like a pig, sounds like a pig, and smells like a pig, it can't be a pig, right?
    Guard: Why not?
Kit: Cause' pigs aren't allowed in this jungle.
Guard: That's true. Okay, you may go.
  • Mean Boss: A handful of episodes have Rebecca coming up with crazy business schemes for profit, which hinders a lot more for her and Baloo, to a greater extent, than help. This episode has her first trying to steal Ostrich feathers from the Nomads, and then hunt truffles in Zibaldo.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: Singing "Rock-a-bye Baby" calms Hogzilla down when he's going on a rampage.
  • Mythology Gag: In a nod to a similar scene from The Jungle Book (1967), Baloo disguises himself as a Pygmy to distract the other Pygmies while Kit rescues Rebecca and Hogzilla.
  • Not So Above It All: Like Baloo, Rebecca occasionally comes up with get-rich-quick schemes to boost Higher For Hire's business. Much like him, it tends to backfire, badly. Her get rich schemes in this episode result in the Sea Duck losing its pontoon to the Natives' arrows and her and Hogzilla nearly being stewed alive by the Pygmies.
  • The Runt at the End: Near the end of the episode, Baloo, Rebecca, Kit and Hogzilla get chased by the Pygmies. A tribe of Pygmies chase after them, running over the guard when he begins his shift. One last Pygmy struggles to catch up with the others.
  • Sanity Ball: Baloo holds it in his episode when Rebecca comes up with a few get-rich-quick schemes of her own; first stealing ostrich feathers from the Nomads, and then getting Hogzilla to hunt truffles in the island of Zibaldo. Baloo tells Rebecca that she's stubborn and pigheaded, the Sea Duck's pontoon is damaged from the arrows in her first scheme, and that it's better to get a new pontoon than a pig. However, Rebecca insists that she is never wrong.
  • Spoofs "R" Us: This episode has Rebecca buy a pig for her truffle hunting business from Hayseeds "R" Us.
  • Stewed Alive: Rebecca, while on a truffle-hunting expedition, is captured by Pygmies who try to cook her together with Hogzilla in a stew with plenty of truffle.
  • Tribal Carry: The Pygmies carry Rebecca this way.
  • Vine Swing: When Baloo and Kit are chased up a tree by a lion, Baloo sees a vine and decides to swing on it, having Saw It in a Movie Once. When he does, the vine snaps from his weight. He and Kit land in a pile of leaves, and Kit remarks "Is that what happened in the movie?" Baloo tries to pass it off by saying it went exactly that way.
  • Zany Scheme: While Baloo has many in this series, Rebecca has a few of her own. In this episode, she buys Hogzilla to hunt truffles.
