Stifle that guttering flame of hope...

This episode includes the following tropes:

  • Badass Boast: Quinlan Vos delivers one to Tahr Whyler and Commissar Terrandor when the Inquisitor assures the commissar that they can defeat Quinlan by double-teaming him.
Quinlan: Ha! You wouldn't put any credits on that if you have any sense. I've tangled with Sith Lords, Jedi hunters, and surprisingly spry bounty hunters, yet here I stand. And I'll even let you in on a little secret. As scary as I may be, I'm not the only one who can use Vaapad. Hell, I'm not even the best one at it. Not even close.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Gak's friend Panic from Episode 12 reappears here where he is treating Tahr for his injuries.
    • Rejjon and Galla make their return in this episode when the former carries the latter's wounded and unconscious body back to the Basilica of Salvation and receive medical treatment for their injuries.
    • Quinlan Vos makes his return in this episode after he was last seen in Episode 12.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • When Quinlan faces off against Tahr about Terrandor, he boasts about having tangled with Sith Lords and Jedi hunters, referencing how he fought Dooku, briefly met Darth Sidious via hologram, and defeated Grievous in Dark Disciple. The episode even displays that novel's cover art as soon as Quinlan says the words "Sith Lords."
    • Also, Quinlan mentions having fought "surprisingly spry bounty hunters" as part of his Badass Boast to Tahr, referencing The Clone Wars episode "Hunt for Ziro" in which Quinlan and Obi-Wan fought Cad Bane, who managed to evade capture despite being a non-Force-sensitive bounty hunter facing two Jedi Masters.
  • Firing One-Handed: Sando does this with his DC-15 blaster rifle during his fight with the Sisters of Battle. He hefts his blaster rife with one arm and jams it into the joint of a Battle Sister's sword arm before shooting, disabling the servos of the Sister's sword arm. He successfully does this twice before the armored joint of the second Battle Sister locks up and breaks the barrel of his blaster rifle.
  • Give My Regards in the Next World: Jocasta Nu to Saphran Indellous.
Jocasta: Take my name to your God, and pray he does not force me to send more of you with it.
  • Gunship Rescue: LAAT gunships arrive on the battlefield and strafe the Imperial lines with missiles and blasterfire just as Sando was about to order his clone force to retreat as they were getting overrun by the Sisters of Battle.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: An unnamed Imperial vox officer gets sliced in half across the body by Quinlan's lightsaber after pushing Tahr Whyler out of the way of Quinlan's attack and taking the blow intended for the Inquisitor.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Sando takes out one Sister of Battle by stabbing her through the chest with her own power sword.
  • Internal Reveal: Tahr Whyler is shocked to learn of Major Flecken's death from a vox officer (really Quinlan Vos Dressing as the Enemy). Flecken's corpse had previously appeared in Episode 11 among the various Imperial regimental commanders who had been slain by Shaak Ti.
  • Pistol-Whipping: There's one moment during the opening battle between the clone commandos and the Sisters of Battle where Sando uses his grenade launcher as a cudgel to knock away two Sisters of Battle.
  • Use Their Own Weapon Against Them: Sando manages to kill one Sister of Battle in by shooting her in her sword arm with his blaster, wrenching her power sword away from her disabled arm, and then using the stolen sword to impale her through the chest.
