As Star, Marco, and Tom prepare to go to the beach, it's discovered Eclipsa brought Rhombulus to the castle (against his will) to convince him to free Globgor, but they ended up fighting.

Tropes:

  • Ask a Stupid Question...:
    Star: Hey, Rhombulus. You OK?
Rhombulus: Let's see. I was just violated by dark magic. What do you think?
  • Asshole Victim: Given the hand Rhombulus had in the conspiracy involving Meteora and deceiving the royal family for generations, one can't help but feel what Eclipsa did to Rhombulus was well deserved.
  • Barely-There Swimwear: Marco is given one of Glossaryck's swimsuits as a replacement for his. We never see it, but Marco complains of how restrictive it is and Star blushes after possibly getting a glimpse of it. He is later shown wearing a Modesty Towel, his legs turning purple underneath from his circulation being cut off.
  • Body Snatcher: Eclipsa takes over Rhombulus' body as a desperate attempt to free Globgor, while a confused Rhombulus is left to deal with being in Eclipsa's body. Star manages to talk her into switching back before she can free Globgor.
  • Bottle Episode: Most of this episode takes place inside the chamber where Globgor is frozen instead of the beach.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: In her attempt to free Globgor from his crystal prison, Eclipsa switches bodies with Rhombulus.
  • Hypocrite: Rhombulus gets angry at Eclipsa for kidnapping him, even though he had kidnapped Star and accused her of a crime based on flimsy evidence once before.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • A prejudiced hypocrite he may be, Rhombulus had every right to be mad at Eclipsa for taking over his body without his permission.
    • Despite her protests to his nature, Eclipsa does not deny that what Rhombulus claims Globgor did is true. He has made a lot of mistakes over who he encases in crystal, but from the evidence presented he was not mistaken in trapping the monster king.
  • Kick the Dog: Rhombulus makes it a point to deliberately re-crystalize what little parts of Globgor Eclipsa set free, basically rubbing her nose in the fact Globgor's freedom rides on whether Rhombulus feels like letting him go (which is pretty unlikely).
  • The Needs of the Many: After Eclipsa takes over Rhombulus' body, Star tells her not to free Globgor that way because otherwise no one, especially not Star herself, will trust her to be a responsible queen. Eclipsa reluctantly complies, even saying that the kingdom has to go first.
  • No-Sell: Rhombulus is apparently immune to mind control spells due to his crystal head.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Eclipsa wants to convince Rhombulus that she and her husband aren't evil, but does a terrible job of both: She kidnaps Rhombulus, gets into an argument that escalates into a fight twice (though it's unclear who attacked first either time), and attempts to free Globgor by taking over Rhombulus' body. When Rhombulus calls Globgor a Mewman-eater, Eclipsa contemptuously insists she got him to stop doing that.
  • Now Do It Again, Backwards: Eclipsa has Rhombulus trapped in a contorted pose by a series of spells. Star suggests undoing each spell in order.
  • Projectile Spell: While Eclipsa is shooting spells at Rhombulus, a Hypnoslumber spell bounces off Rhombulus’ crystalline body and hits Star.
  • Rejected Apology: Eclipsa apologizes to Rhombulus for taking over his body, but he simply tells her "This isn't over, Mewman-eater!", repairs the melted portion of Globgor's crystal while insisting he'll never get out, and walks off.
  • Self-Duplication: Glossaryck is simultaneously with Marco and in a different room with Star, just because he feels like it.
  • Transformation of the Possessed: Besides keeping their voices, Eclipsa's Facial Markings follow her mind into Rhombulus' body.
  • Trivial Title: The title "Swim Suit" promises a Beach Episode, and the episode begins with Star and Marco preparing for a day at the beach. The main plot, however, is Star mediating between Eclipsa and Rhombulus as they argue over whether to free Globgor or not. The title alludes instead to the minor subplot of Marco looking for his swim trunks.
  • Voices Are Mental: Eclipsa switches bodies with Rhombulus, and their voices go with their minds. In an amusingly ridiculous twist, Rhombulus' snake hands can still talk as Eclipsa's hands mime flapping mouths.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Star tells Eclipsa how abusing her powers will make it hard for people, Star included, to trust her.
