Tropes

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The red heron's justification for settling an insurance payment to rebuild Eggman's lair and settle all his permit fees, though he does admit Eggman's act of kindness wasn't sincere.
Red Heron: Even though it was based on misguided assumptions and plot contrivances, you've treated me with kindness. So I've decided to approve an enormous insurance settlement to rebuild your lair and to pay for all your permits and fines.
  • Book Ends: But after all that is said and done, at the end Eggman still has a whole mountain of trash he can't pay to get hauled away just like at the beginning and the episode ends with Eggman growling angrily (as Cubot and Orbot cower in fear) over the heap of trash he's still stuck with. Doubles as Laser-Guided Karma because Eggman was his usual jerkass self to the hotel guests.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: Lampshaded in that Eggman considered selling some of his high-tech weapons to pay off his debts to the trash collectors but he ultimately rules against it saying they have too much sentimental value to him. Orbot also suggested selling his doomsday device since he hasn't used it in a while.
  • Didn't Think This Through: For such a genius, Eggman didn't seem to bother locking up his most dangerous weapons in a secure area such as a vault when he converts his lair into a hotel so that he doesn't have to risk hotel guests touching the weapons of mass destruction. This occurs at the end when Sonic accidentally bumps his fire-burning robot scorpion into his doomsday device which sets off an explosion destroying Eggman's lair and sending everyone flying into the air before landing in Sticks' pillow fortress.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Sonic and his friends seize the opportunity to make Eggman their servant as payback for antagonizing them on a constant basis. Sonic himself seems to be enjoying it most, ordering Eggman to bring him a "Kaluki juki" (pineapple juice) complete with an umbrella and pineapple wedge. Tails, Knuckles and Sticks ride on Eggman to provide them with notepads, towels and pillows respectively while Amy simply tells off Eggman he should adjust his behavior to the hotel guests if he wants to see a profit but later on she's revealed to be the secret reviewer and threatens to give Eggman a bad review as she has the power of word-of-mouth to make Eggman see his whole resort operation crash and burn.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: After a visit to the Mayor to complain about his trash, Eggman gets his trash hauled away. He blows a kazoo, but then is handed a hefty bill for trash collection he can't afford because his amount of trash was multiple times more than the allotted amount that can be covered by taxpayers (and also Eggman doesn't seem to be a taxpayer).
Eggman: Now I regret blowing the kazoo.
  • Entitled Bastard:
    • Eggman feels entitled to trash collection services despite how he never pays taxes but he thinks everyone else should.
    • Ironically, Eggman (wrongly) thinks of his hotel guests as this for demanding him to provide excellent catering services but Sonic and his friends fire back they paid good money for it.
  • Hotel Hellion: The village children (Lady Walrus's baby and a baby monkey) both run rampant across the lobby room nearly tripping Amy, breaking a lamp and bumping into the red heron reviewer ( actually an insurance claims adjuster) in the process.
  • Idiot Ball: Even knowing just what a psychopath Eggman is, a lot of the island villagers who give Eggman's hotel a chance are still astonished at Eggman's impertinence. Lady Walrus screaming Eggman is a "rude rude man" comes off as a rather pathetic criticism given Eggman has already tried destroying the village multiple times.
  • Improvised Weapon: Related to The Dog Bites Back above, Tails, Knuckles and Sticks are able to save the day and defeat Eggman's robots using the hotel items they made Eggman provide for them. In addition, Amy pounds her hammer on the bellhop bell to knock out the crab bots while Sticks throws pineapples and kebabs at the ladybug bots.
  • Inn of No Return: As promised by the episode's title, Eggman resorts to using this as blackmail against the Mayor to get rid of his permit fees and penalty fines once he realizes he botched his chance to impress the reviewer, which happened to be Amy who was the LAST person Eggman would've suspected to be this.
  • No Fame, No Wealth, No Service: Upon hearing rumors that a reviewer with strong publicity power is coming to Eggman's lair, only then does Eggman get worked up into behaving as a properly good-mannered hotel owner but rather than treat ALL the guests with kindness given the reviewer is incognito, Eggman arrogantly thinks he can deduce who the reviewer is judging by how opulent they are dressed. He ends up impressing all the wrong people and very much infuriated the real reviewer (who was in plain clothes) by refusing to provide any service, who turns out to be Amy Rose.
  • Object Ceiling Cling: Mayor Fink when he first appears is sticking pencils to the ceiling instead of carrying any of his civil duties.
  • Stealing from the Hotel: Once Eggman turns his lair into a hotel, Sticks steals all the pillows including from other guests' rooms to make a pillow fortress. On a lesser note, Tails takes up much of the notepad inventory to make model planes while Knuckles uses up nearly all the towels.
  • Villain Protagonist: Eggman is the lead of this episode, with Sonic and his friends pushed to minor roles.
