Rumors are mostly a projection of the people who started them.

(CWi Episode: "Rini's Lovely Rhapsody")

The girls plus Mamoru notice that Chibi-Usa has been acting strange and conclude that she must have found herself a boyfriend. So they each take turns in figuring out who her special somebody is.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Answer Cut: After Usagi openly asks what the boy that Chibi-Usa is in love with looks like, it cuts to Helios' dead body which is held prisoner in Nehelenia's dimension.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Makoto was able to drag a large piano by herself across the restaurant.
  • Call-Back: Minako warns Chibi-Usa that two timing can be tricky if she isn't careful.
  • Cold Open: The episode features a voiceover between Chibi-Usa and Helios over how the Dead Moon Circus attacked Elysion and that only the Golden Crystal can keep them safe.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: When JunJun unleashes her Orb Shot, a black colored koi fish pops up and knocks the ball onto the white man.
  • Curse Cut Short: After Minako points out that Chibi-Usa's dream guy sounds like a "horse butt", Ami corrects her saying that she meant to say "jackass". She stops herself midway because of how vulgar it sounds.
  • Dream Sequence: Chibi-Usa dreams of herself in her princess dress while flying around on her magic horse.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Usagi points out that the advice Rei, Mako and Mina give to Chibi-Usa isn’t that helpful, since none of them have boyfriends. All three then look on dejected.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Chibi-Usa describes her "friend" as having an oblong, horse-like face, Ami and Minako are initially weirded out. Minako doesn't understand what this means, but Ami seems to have some guess that it's something she can't say out loud. She immediately stops before saying something indecent, but Minako quickly wants to know what Covert Pervert thought she was having.
  • Fiendish Fish: JunJun summons Paku Paku the Dream Eating Carp. He looks like a regular dude wearing an oversized carp costume.
  • Filling the Silence: In the Cloverway dub, dialogue between Rini and Pegasus is added during Rini's dream sequence of flying with him over Tokyo where in the original, it was mainly music-only.
  • Flight of Romance: Chibi-Usa has a dream where Pegasus takes her on a flight above Tokyo and later the Dream Land Elysion. She even gets her own set of wings and flies by his side.
  • Food as Bribe: In each of their outings, the Inners plus Mamoru use food and treats to butter up Chibi-Usa into talking about her personal life.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Usagi express irritation at how Mamoru never took her to a fancy restaurant like he did with Chibi-Usa.
  • Has a Type: Makoto makes it clear that she's really into older men.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Mamoru expresses disapproval at Chibi-Usa being in a romantic relationship with an older man. His middle school girlfriend/future wife reminds him about their own predicament.
  • Identical Stranger: The man feeding koi fish looks a lot like Pegasus and is mistaken for Chibi-Usa's lover.
  • Insistent Terminology: Ami keeps declaring she's going to order apple juice when the rest of the Inners act weird in front of the waiter. It subtly reads as if "apple juice" is her desperate code to get the girls to calm down before anyone notices what they're doing.
  • No. Just... No: Rei has this reaction over Makoto insisting that Chibi-Usa is in love with an old man.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: During her chat with Minako over if she has a specific person in mind, Chibi-Usa points out that the word "person" isn't right for the one she's thinking about. While she's referring to Pegasus, Minako believes there's more than one person she's interested in.
  • Previously on…: The first scene gives a small recap of Helios' homeworld and what the Dead Moon Circus is after.
  • Psychological Projection: Each Inner girl believes that Chibi-Usa's love situation is related to their own interests or ideas. For Rei, it's her first love, Makoto believes she's involved in an May–December Romance, Minako assumes that she's into cheating, and Ami just wants to study the emotional components of love.
  • Running Gag: The heroes take Chibi-Usa out to eat and try to get information out of her over her secret admirer.
  • Spit Take: Rei ends up losing her tea after Makoto deduces that Chibi-Usa is in love with an older man. This happens twice. Though it's less a Spit Take and more like a waterfall of backwash spilling into her teacup.
  • Talking in Your Sleep: The Amazoness Quartet sleep-talk with each other over how Zirconia looks like a squid.
  • Troll: Makoto is implied to be deliberately messing with Rei when she suggests Chibi-Usa's in love with an older guy, getting Rei to do a second Spit Take.
  • Visual Pun: Koi fish are frequently featured throughout the episode. Because in Japanese, "koi" is a homophone for 恋, which is another word for "love".
  • With Catlike Tread: The Inner girls (minus Ami) try to sneak their way to Mamoru and Chibi-Usa's table to better hear their conversation. Their methods of doing so involve dragging restaurant centerpieces (and a piano) across the room which not only tips off Chibi-Usa but gets the attention of all the patrons.
    Rini(Cloverway): Daddy-kins?
    Darien(Cloverway): Yes, Pumpkin?
Rini: I feel as if somebody is spying on us...and they're not doing a very good job of it!
