The Mario Concert contains examples of:

  • Blatant Lies: Bob's promo video for his rap tour starts with these:
Bob: Just a humble rapper, trying to go make a career for himself...when some thugs came to my mansion and destroyed it.
Mario: Hey, thugs didn't destroy your house!
  • Break the Cutie: Bob's infamous speech at the end of the episode leaves Boopkins as a crying wreck and begging him not to leave. This trauma carries over a few episodes.
  • Both Sides Have a Point:
    • In favor of Bob: Bob repeatedly tells Boopkins not to come to the concert, and when that fails, he tells Boopkins to buy a ticket and go stand in the crowd. When Bob relents and allows Boopkins to stay backstage, Boopkins then tries to angle his way into getting on stage, which causes Bob to explicitly warn him to stay off the stage while he's performing because its something very important. Boopkins once again doesn't listen and his interference ends up ruining the concert, proving Bob right. Plus, Boopkins' mentioning that he only interfered because he thought Bob needed help when it was clear that he really didn't, did no favors.
    • In favor of Boopkins: That being said, Bob acts pretty coldly to Boopkins, lying to him that there's no space for him on his private jet instead of just explaining to Boopkins how important it was from the get go, and then tells Mario and Luigi that they have permission to shoot Boopkins on sight if they see him (to which Luigi responds like anyone else would). Plus, even though Boopkins screws up, he certainly doesn't deserve Bob's extremely harsh speech at the end when Boopkins apologizes.
  • Butt-Monkey: Mario and Luigi take it squarely on the chin in this episode, being press-ganged into being Bob's manager, pelted by money, mobbed by fans and being overworked by Bob on top of it. Mario gets it especially bad since he was the stage hand.
  • The Bus Came Back: Boopkins' Dad appears for the first time in months to see his son off.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Bob forces Mario to pump up his replica balloon far bigger than it probably should. It ultimately proves to be the catalyst in his concert being ruined, as Boopkins gets accidentally knocked onto it, causing it to explode.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Bob lights Mario on fire for making a silly joke with the boom mic at the end of his promotional video for his rap tour.
  • Comically Small Bribe: Mario agrees to becoming Bob's tour manager in exchange for being paid pictures of spaghetti, which says a lot considering that when Bob makes this offer, Mario has a plate of the real thing in his hands.
  • Dreadful Musician: Boopkins charges the stage to provide backup on tambourine and vocals. To put it nicely, it was not needed.
  • The Ending Changes Everything: Bob's Motive Rant in the last few minutes paints every seemingly nice thing he had done in the last few episodes in a much darker light.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Boopkins apologizes and explains that he thought Bob needed help while performing. While he does mention that Bob sounds great, he makes it sound like Bob was only doing fine despite having the crowd roaring and cheering with delight and Bob does not take this comment well.
  • Insane Troll Logic: When questioned by Luigi on how he can afford a private jet—scratch that, seven private jets, when the whole point of the tour was to raise money to rebuild his mansion, Bob explains that they're jets for poor people. Luigi reacts exactly how you'd expect.
  • Invisible Anatomy: Apparently, a Goomba can drive a taxi just fine without the use of arms or hands.
  • Motive Rant: Bob goes on a huge one when Boopkins ruins his performance.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While Bob has never been a stranger to anger, there's something seriously jarring about actually seeing his model actually having angry eyes to reflect this. It's not helped by the way how he delivers his rant to Boopkins.
  • Rage Breaking Point: To his credit, Bob takes the destruction and failure of his concert quite well, silently walking off backstage. It's only when Boopkins says that he thought Bob needed help does he finally snap.
  • The Reveal: All the nice things Bob had been doing in the past few episodes? He himself manipulated those events to boost his career and none of it was genuine. A big example is that he pushed Boopkins in the well, making it look like an accident so he could be the hero.
  • The Stinger: Following the tradition of the last few episodes, a stinger showing a THIRD cyborg with a green arm shows up, who appears to be playing a racing game. This turned out to be the first look at Lamar Williams.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: After spending an entire tour working him and Luigi like dogs, Bob puts Mario on bodyguard duty to stop Boopkins from getting onto the stage. While he does do it effectively at first, when Boopkins finally gets past him it's because Mario falls asleep standing up due to exhaustion.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: While Bob was always a selfish, boorish jerk, he at least had his softer and sympathetic side, especially in the previous episodes of this arc ("Mario and...The Well", Mario and the Bob Mansion). None of that side is on display in this episode, with him seriously threatening Mario and Luigi at knifepoint to stuff themselves into a suitcase, working them tirelessly as tour managers, berating them on the job and generally treating them like crap. Oh, and he didn't pay them either. That's not even going into what he did to Boopkins...
  • Wham Episode: Definitely a huge one considering it kickstarts the next Myth Arc.
  • Wham Line: Bob's Motive Rant as a whole is this considering it comes out of nowhere, but one line in particular really gets the ball rolling.
Bob: I even pushed you down a well for God's sake!
