- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Lopez comments that Tumblr is going to hate Sarge's offensive "White" rant.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: Grif is in no hurry to leave his retirement and go on another stupid and dangerous adventure that revolves around Church again.Grif: We are supposed to be done. I don't wanna go on another adventure! I don't wanna listen to Sarge! I don't wanna get shot at! I don't want to shoot at other people! I want to chill! I want to sit and chill!
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Grif quits and starts walking away from everyone, and Caboose urges someone to do something to stop him, Sarge initially tries to get Grif to stop with his usual threats of violence and death, even encouraging him to keep walking away in that case. But when Grif doesn't break stride Sarge is reduced to simply muttering "Seriously, Grif, turn around."
- Refuge in Audacity: When Sarge is ranting and trying to make Dylan and Jax their new enemies, he refers to them as "The Whites" due to their armor color, and outright calls it a "Race War", to the shock of everyone else present.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Grif, fed up with being dragged on crazy adventures, refuses to come along and walks out on the group.
- Shout-Out: During his Didn't Want an Adventure rant, Grif points out that Church has been dead more often than Jean Grey.
- Suddenly Shouting: This is Grif's response to Dylan trying to assure Grif that he is better than he and most people think and that his actions show he actually does care about his friends.Grif: YOU DON'T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT ME, LADY! I HATE SIMMONS! I HATE SARGE! I HATE EVERYBODY! PRINT THAT IN YOUR FUCKIN' PAPER!
- Wham Episode: In the closing moments of the episode, Grif, one of the original members of the team, quits, not wanting to go on another adventure, and stays behind.
- Wham Line: Delivered by Grif when he finally meets up with the others at the end of the episode.Grif: No, actually I was thinking that... I quit.
- Why Won't You Die?: Or more accurately "Why Won't You Stay Dead?", but Grif shows frustration over Chruch apparently having another unexplained resurrection and how everyone is willing to leave their retirement to go on another adventure revolving around him.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Dylan tries to give a Rousing Speech to Grif and inspire him that he is this, stating that despite what he says about himself or what everyone else says about him being "the lazy one" or the one "who doesn't care", his actions tell a different story. He has always answered the call before and helped his friends even at his own expense, directly referring to how he saved Sarge's life by giving him CPR once. It doesn't work.
