The Pilot Episode of "Pokémon Evolutions", which retells the encounter between Leon and his team against the Gigantic Pokémon, Eternatus. The episode also details how Victor, Hop, Zacian, and Zamazenta defeated it, and the aftermath of it all.
Tropes in this Episode
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In the games, Leon didn't seem at all bothered that he failed to capture and defeat Eternatus but was rather proud that the player and Hop managed to do so. Here he seems outright traumatized by the whole ordeal.
- Artistic License – Physics: Inteleon's gliding membrane is apparently more like Not Quite Flight in the anime, as Victor's Inteleon is able to glide without much of a head start to do so, can casually lift its trainer's hand with one arm, and can glide backwards all in the span of a second.
- Continuity Cavalcade: To Sword and Shield. The episode takes place after the second Darkest Day created by Macro Cosmos, but before the player challenges Leon in the Championship Match.
- The Cameo: Bede and Marnie have a brief unvoiced appearance in the audience stands during the championship battle between Leon and Victor. Gloria also appears during the first few seconds of the same episode riding a Corviknight Taxi out of Wyndon, followed shortly by Nessa on an advertisement in the city.
- Flashback: While the episode itself takes place in the present, there are bits and pieces of it that flashback to Leon trying to catch Eternatus.
- Mood Lighting: During Leon's period of trauma in the dressing room, the lighting is gloomy. But when he gains the determination to continue, the room is illuminated thanks to Charizard's tail.
- Olympus Mons: Eternatus, the Gigantic Pokémon, is the main Legendary focus in this episode.
