Recap / Pokémon EC 3 Bitten Down the Hatching

Go To

The egg Flash was given from the Dragon Kingdom finally hatches, revealing a shiny Starvern. But Flash struggles to get the mischievous newborn to behave and listen to him, especially since all it seems to want to do is explore the world, not realizing the dangers it also has in it.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Astro, due to being a literal new born, becomes the new holder of this for the group. It is actually lampshaded how Shine is no longer this when she acts like a Cool Big Sis to Astro.
  • Cool Big Sis: Shine becomes one to Astro very quickly. While everyone else initially struggles with him, she shows no trouble at all. She lets him bite her on her tail since she doesn't feel pain there, and then swings it around while he holds on to take him for a ride. She later helps heal Astro after he has been poisoned.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": When Astro is given his nickname he seems confused by it at first, and Twilight explains to him that they give Pokémon nicknames explicitly to avoid this trope.
Twilight: A name. It's what we call you. We can't just call you Starvern. That's what you are, but not who you are.
  • Man Bites Man: Astro has a bad habit of biting others. Flash tries to tell him to stop it several times, but he doesn't really listen. When trying to come up with a nickname for him Spike initially suggests Chomp because he chomps anything he can get his teeth on. Flash decides against it, since it would be weird if he grew out of that habit.
  • Papa Wolf: Flash continues to act like A Father to His Men, especially his newly hatched Starvern, Astro. When an Ariados poisons Astro, Flash orders all of his other Pokémon to attack the spider.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: When an Ariados poisons Astro, Flash has all five of his other Pokémon attack the spider all at once with some of their most powerful moves, sending it flying in a giant explosion.
