Recap / Phineas And Ferb Split Personality

Go To

Candace gets split into two copies of herself by the boys' Molecular Separator: one obsessed with busting them, and the other obsessed with Jeremy. Meanwhile, Doof creates the Look-Away-Inator to ensure that he can do a high dive without anyone watching him.

Tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: Jeremy nearly kisses Romantic Candace, but she gets pulled away by Busting Candace right before they make contact.
  • Bait-and-Switch Sentiment: When Doofenshmirtz gets to the top of the Danville High Dive:
Doofenshmirtz: Hey wait a minute... this isn't as bad as I remember. It's SO MUCH WORSE!!
  • Big "OMG!": Busting Candace says one when she catches Romantic Candace decorating the bedroom with Jeremy memorabilia.
  • Brick Joke: Doofenshmirtz rambles about how his Look-Away-inator might cause trouble for people who are driving and brain surgeons. When he does activate the inator, among the people affected are brain surgeons operating on a patient, with the patient complaining that she tastes lilacs after the surgeons look away.
  • Brown Bag Mask: Doofenshmirtz's parents wear these out of shame at Heinz's failure at the high dive.
    Doof's Dad: Zu nah!note
  • Comical Angry Face: Busting Candace's facial expressions are more exaggerated than usual.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Linda's now infamous response to Candace's claim that "Phineas and Ferb made me!"
Linda: Um, I've got some stretch marks that would say otherwise.
  • Everyone Has Standards: After seeing all the trouble the two Candaces cause, and the busting Candace letting out an absolutely inhuman squeal of rage, Phineas and Ferb agree to destroy the molecular separator if it doesn't just randomly disappear when the adventure's over.
  • Evil Is Angular: A way to tell the two Candaces apart: the meaner Busting Candace has hair that is more sharp and angular, shaping a "horn" protruding off the top of her head, while the more ditzy Romantic Candace has more rounded hair, with a flower in it.
  • Flowers of Femininity: The more feminine Romantic Candace has a flower in her hair.
  • Funny Photo Phrase: When taking the picture of Candace and Jeremy, Ferb tells them to say, "Fromage!", which is French for "cheese".
  • Glass Smack and Slide: Linda stops her car once she and Romantic Candace arrives home, and Busting Candace (who's been chasing them on foot the whole time) crashes into the back of the car in this fashion.
  • Gratuitous English: Doof's flashback begins with his father yelling, "Are you a man or a schnitzel!?!" and Young Doof replying, "I'm a man! I'm a man!" But after Young Doof climbs up the high dive, they switch back to German, when a man tells Doof's father, "Das kind ist ein schnitzel!"note
  • Hidden Depths: Major Monogram turns out to have a secret side of him that really likes to sing; it's only shown after he was fired with the molecular separator.
    Singing Monogram: I wanna siiiing~
Major Monogram: I try so hard to keep you under wraps.
  • High-Dive Hijinks: One of Gimmelshtump's rite of passage is jumping off the high dive. When Doofenshmirtz attempts to do a high dive as a child, he chickens out after realizing the drop is further than he thought; as a result, his parents disown him. Present-day Doofenshmirtz decides to vindicate himself by jumping from the high dive at the Danville Public Pool.
  • I Have No Son!: Doofenshmirtz's father says this in German ("Ich habe keinen Sohn.") when Heinz chickens out on the high dive.
  • I Want to Be a Real Man: Doofenshmirtz fails the rite of passage as a kid and is ridiculed for being a "schnitzel" and not a true man. He attempts to retry the high jump dive as an adult to prove himself.
  • Laugh of Love: Romantic Candace tends to do this a lot when around, well, Jeremy.
  • Literal Split Personality: The plot happens when Candace accidentally activates the boys' molecular separator on herself, creating Busting Candace and Romantic Candace. At the end of the episode, the separator falls down the entrance to Perry's lair and fires at Monogram, creating a split copy of him that really loves singing.
  • Me's a Crowd: The boys' first attempt to merge the two Candaces together backfires and instead creates 11 more copies of her.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: For once, Phineas and Ferb decide to outright destroy one of their inventions if it doesn't disappear at the end of the day, due to the trouble the two versions of Candace end up causing. Immediately beforehand, Phineas has a Jaw Drop, and Ferb cringes in concern when the busting Candace lets out an absolutely hideous sound of rage.
Phineas: If the molecular separator doesn't mysteriously disappear by the end of the day, we should probably just destroy it.
    Ferb: Agreed.
  • Running Gag: Everyone calling Doofenshmirtz a schnitzel for not being brave enough to do the high dive.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Tuckerization: The store where Romantic Candace gets her photo frame is called "Jay's Gifts" for writer and director Jay Lender.
  • Twitchy Eye: Linda develops one while driving home with Romantic Candace, who's singing happily about how she and Jeremy will be together.
  • Underwear Flag: After Phineas uses the molecular separator to separate Baljeet's peanut butter from Buford's chocolate, Buford tells Baljeet to grab his peanut butter and swimsuit and meet him at the flagpole.
  • The Voiceless: Baljeet appears but has no lines.
