Recap / Phineas And Ferb Skiddley Whiffers

Go To

Phineas and Ferb create a giant-sized version of Candace's favorite childhood game, Skiddley Whiffers; when they ask Candace If she wants to play, she instantly tags along. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz secretly overprotects Vanessa on her camping trip with Perry's help.

Tropes:

  • Always a Child to Parent: When Vanessa is griping about how she is a teenager now, we see her from Doof's POV as a little girl, but still ranting.
  • Art Shift: The Skiddley Whiffers advertisement shown at the beginning of the episode is done in the style of early 1960s animation.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Baljeet is not thrilled about playing as the yellow unicorn. Because real unicorns are pink.
  • Butt-Monkey: Baljeet has a hard time playing Skiddley Whiffers.
  • Calvinball: Skiddley Whiffers is essentially this. It involves randomly shaped game pieces, growing a beard, going through mud and a car wash and ringing a bell when you win.
  • Continuity Nod: Doof is worried about Vanessa being alone with no one to care for her like the kindly ocelots that took care of him.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: "You know, fire is the leading cause of fire."
  • Don't Explain the Joke: When Major Monogram tells Perry the Platypus that Doofenshmirtz was spotted driving to the Danville National Park, he says "So, I guess for you, it'll be a walk in the park! Ha ha! Cause you're going to the park... where Doof is." Perry is not amused.
  • Grammar Nazi: Candace calls for Baljeet to toss her the dice.
Baljeet: (angrily) The singular is "die"!
Buford: Whoa. That was uncalled for.
  • I Am Not Weasel: When Doof's ruse is broken, Johnny tells Vanessa, "Wait, I thought your dad was a pharmacist."
  • Limited Animation: The Skiddley Whiffers advertisement in the beginning is done this way, right out of the 1950s.
  • Milestone Celebration: In-Universe, when Perry enters his lair, Monogram and Carl celebrate his 999th lair entrance. (His 1000th entrance was celebrated on the now defunct mobile app Where's My Perry?.)
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: Doof's Paper-Thin Disguise when trying to get rid of all potentially dangerous things around Vanessa's campground.
  • Not So Innocent Whistling: Perry does this to remove himself from Doof and Vanessa's argument.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Vanessa is not in the least fooled by Doof's disguise. But she draws the line when she sees Perry dress up as a bear, who thought he knew better than that.
  • A Rare Sentence: "Call the authorities, it's a cube!"
  • Rearrange the Song: While the gang plays giant Skiddley Whiffers, a version of the jingle heard at the beginning plays done in the style of the "Quirky Worky Song".
  • Rimshot: One occurs after Phineas says "I claim the fedora, and Ferb picks the nose!"
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Candace for once gets a win in this episode, a total break from her being the usual Butt-Monkey. She also admits to having fun with her brothers while playing giant Skiddley Whiffers.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: Candace at the end of every Skiddley Whiffers game. But Phineas and Ferb let it slide because they like seeing her happy once in a while.
    Phineas: Nice game, Candace!
    Candace: Yeah, for me!!
  • Writers Cannot Do Math:
    • When Candace holds up the scoreboard, she says she won the last twelve games in a row, but there are more than twelve checks in her column.
    • When Candace wins, she says "19 out of 24!", but she lost one game to Phineas and one to Ferb.
