Recap / Paradise PDS 02 E 05 The Father The Son And The Post It Note

Go To

Randall and Clappers butt heads over who can solve the Houndstooth Meth case first. Meanwhile, Thester accidentally put $100 million in a storage unit which gets transferred by the unit owner to a Catholic Church. The priest refuses to give back the money and his army of nuns easily repels Fitz and his gang from retrieving it.

  • Actor Allusion:
    • Agent Clappers sings the praise of Cedric Daniels from The Wire. (He is voiced by Cedric's voice actor, "Lance Reddick".)
Agent Clappers: I loved it when that handsome, smoldering Lieutenant Daniels would be like "McNulty!" or "Hey, McNulty!" or "My office, now, McNulty!"
    • Then of course, there's Thester telling Randall that Woody from Brickleberry called, asking for his voice back.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Hopson said that he got kicked out of his nursing home for sucking on the orderly's titties. This is one of the rare but consistent times when he's expressed sexual attraction toward women.
  • Animal Motifs: Hopson acts like a dog and Dusty acts like a cat and Hopson chases Dusty up a tree.
Bullet: Ha. Humans acting like animals. Good one, writers.
  • Armoured Closet Gay: Pat Robertson is shown to be madly in love with Jesus Christ.
Jesus: Stop being such a homophobic asshole.
Pat Robertson: How can I be a homophobe? I jerk off to Jesus!
    Jesus: What?
Pat Robertson: Uh, I mean, [nervously chuckles] Hi. [blushes]
  • Badass Preacher: The Catholic Priest.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Fitz and Thester plan on tricking Miss Geraldine by having one of them dress as a Nigerian prince. Despite Fitz being the black one, Thester is the one who dons this disguise.
  • Cutaway Gag: Bullet remembers when he conned Hopson by selling him "invisibility pills", cueing a cutaway where Hopson got caught watching Kevin in the shower.
  • Dog Walks You: Sort of. In this episode, Bullet gets ownership of Hopson and starts walking him like a pet.
  • Easter Egg: The billboard outside the church reads "Ezek. 23:20". If you look up this bible passage, you'll notice that it says something extremely raunchy and disgusting.
There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.
  • Evil All Along: Agent Clappers turns out to be a villain working for The Legion of Dooooom, when he shoots Agent Dunfore dead.
  • Hidden Wire: Agent Clappers makes Kevin wear a wire to catch Randall confessing to a crime on tape.
Kevin: I don't know about the wire.
Agent Clappers: What do you mean, you don't know about The Wire!? It was the best show ever!
  • I Owe You My Life: Although Bullet initially hated having Hopson live with him, Hopson saves Bullet's life from his dog house catching on fire, which made Bullet change his ways and become friends with him.
  • Literal-Minded: Randall takes all torture methods literally. He "waterboards" Robby by having him drink water and smacking him in the face with a wooden board.
  • Pedophile Priest: Averted. Jerry dresses up as an altar boy to seduce the Catholic Priest but the priest doesn't respond to it.
  • Pet Contest Episode: There's a brief sideplot about Bullet entering Hopson into a dog show only for him to almost immediately get kicked out.
  • Red Shirt: Zig-zagged. Agent Dunfore is clearly meant to be this but he has multiple near-death experiences throughout the episode, before finally getting shot dead 0.7 seconds before retirement.
  • Running Gag: This episode has a number of running gags. For starters, there's Agent Dunfore's near-death experiences. Then there's Ron Perlman watching Paradise P.D. and getting offended by all the jokes about him.
  • Sinister Minister: The Catholic Priest is a vulgar, needlessly profane, and quick-to-violence asshole.
  • The Stoic: Agent Clappers says that he's never smiled in his entire life.
Agent Clappers: I came out of my mom's fun-tunnel and said "Where's my gun? I'm ready for work!"
