Recap / One Tree Hill S6E22 "Show Me How to Live"

Go To

Brooke and Haley throw Peyton a baby shower, while Sam grows closer to Victoria. Lucas and Jamie bond while working on Peyton's car, and Nathan learns that NBA scouts will be at his next game. Meanwhile, Skills and Lauren go on a date that goes all wrong.

Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Altar the Speed: Peyton wants to move her wedding to Lucas forward because she’s worried about something going wrong before then. Lucas initially refuses, not wanting to get married under such morbid circumstances, but eventually comes around after a talk with Nathan gets Lucas to change his mind, but for a different reason - he just doesn’t want to wait anymore.
  • The Cameo: Karen, Keith, Rachel and Bevin appear in the photographs Jamie retrieves from Peyton’s time capsule.
  • Continuity Nod: Lucas is still working to restore and repair the Comet after it was driven into.
  • Continuity Porn: Peyton’s time capsule for her unborn child is full of nods to earlier points in the series.
    • Ellie’s sketch of Peyton as the Angel of Death.
    • The "Friends With Benefit" CD that Peyton and Ellie produced.
    • A photo of Peyton with the other Ravens cheerleaders in Senior Year.
    • A photo of Lucas as a baby with Karen and Keith.
    • A newspaper clipping from the Ravens’ State Championship win.
    • A comic strip chronicling Peyton and Lucas’ relationship to their engagement.
  • Elephant in the Living Room: Peyton’s placenta previa during the baby shower. When Peyton’s gifted a baby book to keep track of the newborn’s progress, there’s a moment where everyone in the room realises that Peyton might not be there to fill in the book.
  • Generation Xerox: Jamie notes that Lucas is effectively his Uncle Keith.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Brooke and Victoria both want Sam to remain part of their family, with Brooke even drafting up adoption papers; ultimately Brooke realises that Sam should get to know her actual family.
  • It's All About Me: Zig-zagged by Mia’s gift for Peyton, which initially seems uncharacteristically self-centred as it’s just a bunch of pictures of Mia, but is in actuality the final decision on the cover art for Mia’s new album.
  • Product Placement: When Haley arrives to collect Jamie from Lucas’ care after the baby shower, the scene opens to a shot panning over the various contents of Peyton’s time capsule, with a Dunkin Donuts cup prominently being shown.
  • Put on a Bus: Sam leaves Brooke’s care and moves in with her actual mother.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode title is taken from the song "Show Me How to Live" by Audioslave.
