Go To

"Hundred" is the twelfth episode of Season 5 of One Tree Hill and also serves as the hundredth episode of the series overall. The episode originally aired March 18th, 2008 and was written by Mark Schwahn and directed by Les Butler.

Old faces return to Tree Hill for Lucas and Lindsey's wedding day, and Peyton continues to struggle with the possibility of losing her true love forever. Meanwhile, Nathan hopes the occasion will allow him to reconcile with Haley, and the recently paroled Dan ensures that no-one will forget what happens.

The episode also bears the distinction of being the final episode produced before production shut down due to the 2007 WGA Strike.

Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: After tracking down Carrie, Dan threatens to kill her if she ever tries to abduct Jamie again.
  • Call-Back:
  • Commuting on a Bus: Karen, Lily and Andy return to Tree Hill for Lucas’ wedding.
  • Death Glare: Dan receives several when he walks into Nathan and Haley’s home after bringing Jamie home; most pointedly from Lucas, but Andy and Peyton can also be seen sporting angrier expressions than the rest of the group.
  • Dramatic Irony: Dan, the person everyone believes to have taken Jamie, is the one who brings the boy home after tracking down the actual kidnapper.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Inverted - upon finding out that Jamie’s missing, Nathan immediately runs into the road to stop a passing police car; the officers immediately assume that Nathan’s been drinking until the situation is explained to them.
  • Foreshadowing: When Haley explains why she thinks Lucas wrote The Comet about Peyton, she tells him not to show those pages to Lindsey but Lucas replies that he already has; sure enough, Lindsey comes to the same realisation.
  • Guy on Guy Is Hot: Brooke is much more receptive to Chase and Owen going camping when Peyton alludes to a Brokeback Mountain scenario.
  • I Got Bigger: Said verbatim by Jamie when Karen teases the 4 year old that he couldn't possibly be Jamie Scott, as he's just a baby.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy:
    • Andy admits to Lucas that as much as he loves Karen and Lily, he’d give it up if it meant Keith could with them instead.
    • Peyton silently watches Lucas say "I do" to Lindsey, after a brief Imagine Spot where she interrupts the wedding to plead with Lucas not to marry Lindsey.
  • Imagine Spot:
    • Two in the opening sequence.
      • Peyton pulls up outside the church where Lucas and Lindsey will be getting married, and then looks over to see herself and Lucas leaving the church as newlyweds.
      • Brooke briefly imagines herself wearing the wedding dress she is preparing for Lindsey.
    • Peyton interrupting the ceremony to plead with Lucas not to marry Lindsey and to instead marry her. Before the viewer sees Lucas’ response, the scene cuts back to Peyton sat in the church pews next to Brooke, with narration from Peyton making it clear that it wasn’t real.
  • Kids Driving Cars: In the cold open, Lucas tells Jamie how, when he was around Jamie’s age, Keith would sit Lucas on his lap whilst driving and let him "drive" the car down some backroads; we then see Lucas doing the same thing with Jamie.
  • The Lost Lenore: Discussed by Andy and Lucas, with Andy telling Lucas that as much as he loves Karen and Lilly, he’d give that up if it meant Keith could be there with them.
  • Missing Child: Jamie is abducted by the woman Nathan and Haley had entrusted his care to as his Nanny.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Skills is distraught after Jamie’s abduction, blaming himself for allowing Carrie the opportunity to take him from the wedding by not escorting Jamie to the bathroom during the wedding.
  • Never the Obvious Suspect: Nathan and Haley immediately suspect Dan of being responsible for Jamie’s abduction, and their naming Dan (and mentioning his past crimes) is what prompts the police officers Nathan flags down to take their claims seriously. Of course, the viewer knows that Dan genuinely had nothing to do with Jamie’s abduction.
  • Put on a Bus: Lindsey leaves Tree Hill in the wake of leaving Lucas at the altar.
  • The Reveal:
    • At some point during the 4 year time skip, Andy and Karen rekindled their romance from Season 2.
    • Brooke returned to Tree Hill because she wants a baby.
  • Runaway Bride: Lindsay abandons Lucas at the altar when she realizes that Lucas' book isn't actually about a comet at all... because Peyton's car is a Mercury Comet, and Lucas unconsciously wrote the book with her in mind.
  • Shipper on Deck: Despite it being Lucas and Lindsay’s wedding day, Skills spends his time before the ceremony coming with ways for Lucas and Peyton to get back together.
  • Ship Sinking: Whilst the wedding ultimately didn’t go through, Lucas still said "I do" - something that Peyton has to remind Brooke of.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Jamie describes Lindsey as looking like the title character of Cinderella when he sees her in her wedding gown.
    • When Brooke complains about going dateless to Lucas’ wedding because Owen and Chase went camping, she questions what guy would choose camping with a friend over escorting her to a wedding - Peyton immediately names Jake Gyllenhaal, referencing his role in Brokeback Mountain.
    • Before the wedding, Skills imagines various scenarios in which the wedding could end up going in Peyton’s favor - one of which is Lucas saying the wrong name at the altar, "like Ross did on Friends."
  • Tangled Family Tree: Lily insists that Jamie has to call her "Aunt Lily" despite the two being born days apart, much to Jamie’s displeasure.note
  • This Is Reality: Brooke reminds Skills of this as he come up with various outlandish ways in which the wedding could go wrong and benefit Peyton.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode title is taken from the song "Hundred" by The Fray.
  • Wham Episode: Lindsey leaves Lucas at the altar after realising that his second novel was subconsciously written as a love letter to Peyton, but only does so after Lucas has already said "I do" to her; Nanny Carrie kidnaps Jamie, and whilst he’s returned home safely, he was rescued by Dan.
  • Wham Line: More for the characters than the audience.
    Jamie: Grandpa Dan saved me.
  • Written-In Absence: Chase and Owen went camping, rather than accompany Brooke and Peyton to Lucas’ wedding.
