Recap / Nexo Knights S 1 E 7 The Maze Of Amazement

Go To

The knights arrive in Axl's hometown of Diggington for a visit. Axl introduces the other knights and Robin to his little sister Axlina and his parents, Mama Axl and Papa Axl, who own the Digging Inn. Before the knights can sit down to eat the inn's specialty, porcupine stew, they are called away by Merlok who has sensed an elusive magic book, the Book of Deception, out in the hills.

In the hills the knights discover a huge stone maze. They enter with Jestro and the Book of Monsters following close behind, hoping to snatch the Book of Deception before the knights do. Ava remarks that the layout of the maze seems very familiar. Inside the maze nothing is as it seems. The knights and Jestro make their way past obstacles and deceptions on their way to the book.

Ava realises what was so familiar about the maze's layout; it is the same as the one in the video game 'Whack-Man'. Aaron knows the game's maze and leads the knights to the book. Both the knights and Jestro seem to have found the book when rock monsters attack. Axl and Jestro grab the book. Axl opens his copy to reveal that the knights' maze was an illusion that the book made to protect itself.

Jestro and the monsters have to drive through Diggington to get away. Luckily Axl's parents and the townsfolk are there to stop them. Despite this and valiant efforts from the knights Jestro gets away with the real book.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Axl's little sister, Axlina, is one of these to Robin.
  • It Can Think: The Book of Deception, while seemingly inanimate, seems to have some sort of conciousness, having created an entire labyrinth full of traps and cryptic messages to trick those trying to find it. It can even create copies of itself with messages like "I cannot tell the truth" and "Fooled you, suckers".
  • It Smells Like Feet: What Aaron says when the heroes are served porcupine stew.
  • Lethal Eatery: The Digging Inn seems to be this. Items on their menu include rock soup and porcupine stew, the latter making Aaron and Lance gag as they try to eat it.
  • No Guy Wants to Be Chased: Axlina's feelings for Robin are not mutual on his side, even if he doesn't necessarily push her away. Then again, he's not above personally calling her to warn her of danger, which she apparently mistakes for him returning her advances. He's last seen pleading for help as the girl clings onto him.
  • Shout-Out: One of the maze's riddles the Nexo Knights have to solve is whether they should listen to the beautiful Zoot or the hideous Dingo. Ironically, these Zoot and Dingo aren't even slightly similar in appearance.
  • Team Rocket Wins: Considering it's the first time the knights actually fight the monsters for the possession of an evil book, getting away with it counts as this trope for Jestro and the Book of Monsters.
