Recap / Nexo Knights S 2 E 2 Greed Is Good

Go To

The Nexo Knights attend the Gold is Good Ball hosted by Lance's parents in the kingdom's richest town, Auremville. Unfortunately, Jestro feeds the Book of Greed to the Book of Monsters to make the Lava Monster Army (who are now led by the newly-summoned General Magmar) so greedy, that they steal all of the Richmond's riches (much to Lance's sorrow) along with both of Lance's parents. However, Lance is not as willing to save his parents as they forced him to become a knight in his childhood while Lance wanted to be a celebrity. Meanwhile, Lance's parents believe that Jestro's Lava Monster Army are servants at a spa and as such are completely oblivious of their imprisonment much to the annoyance of the Book of Monsters and General Magmar. This makes Jestro more than willing to return them and the stolen riches to Auremville.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Captain Oblivious: Lance's parents are so amazingly self-absorbed that, after being kidnapped, they fail to realize they're not at a spa, or that Magmar is outright trying to kill them, even when Jestro point-blank says they're hostages.
  • City of Gold: Auremville is certainly this, Lance's family mansion being the prime example. The streets are even paved with gold and marble!
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Inverted. Jestro offers the Nexo Knights to take the Richmonds and their gold back for free, and is shocked to hear that Lance will only take the latter. The Book of Monsters doesn't believe Lance is being serious and thinks he's using reverse psychology.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Lance's parents refused to let him be a celebrity, and made him be a knight. Lance still holds a grudge against that one, to the extent he refuses to try and rescue them when they're abducted.
  • Hostage Situation: While it wasn't Jestro and the Book's plan to take hostages, they initially keep Lance's parents prisoner, and even demand ranson...in form of a single tube of weather-proof sealing.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Despite being called out by his friends for valuing his money more than his parents, Lance doesn't seem to acknowledge that what he did was wrong.
  • Pity the Kidnapper: Mr. and Mrs. Richmond drive their captors crazy with demands, although it's less of a deliberate attempt to make them miserable and more of sheer obliviousness on their part. Eventually, the Book of Monsters decides it's for the best to just return them and their gold.
  • Refuse to Rescue the Disliked: As said above, Lance is so bitter about his parents' influence on his life that he refuses to save them from Jestro's clutches and has to be persuaded by his friends to bail them out.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: At one point, Jestro tries wearing a hat made of gold. He promptly falls over and has difficulty picking himself up because it's, well, gold.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When Lance repeatedly states that he's not going after the monsters to save his parents but only to get his gold back, the other knights are...less than amused.
Lance: Hmm, my parents for a tube of sealing...
Clay: Really?! Do you actually have to think about it?
