"Shoot Style!"
"Create Those Ultimate Moves" is the 14th episode of My Hero Academia's third season, and the 52nd episode overall.

With the provisional license exams fast approaching, Aizawa, Midnight, Ectoplasm, and Cementoss assist Class 1-A in creating "ultimate moves" that they can rely on in the field. The students eagerly get to the task, but Midoriya finds himself at a loss for what to do. Up until now he had mostly fought with his arms, but since they're at risk of being permanently damaged, he approaches the Support Department for a costume upgrade that will lessen the strain on his arms. He finds Hatsume in the lab with Power Loader; Hatsume offers Midoriya (along with Iida and Uraraka, who are also seeking costume upgrades) a few of her inventions, much to their chagrin. Midoriya realizes that he had been limiting himself by trying to copy All Might's fist-focused fighting style, and approaches Iida to help him remedy this.

Four days later, the class is still hard at work, with their training efforts starting to bear fruit. When a blast from Bakugo causes a chunk of debris to fall in All Might's direction, Midoriya rescues him by kicking it away midair — the debut of "One For All: Full Cowl Shoot Style".

Tropes present in this episode:

  • Accidental Pervert: Not that they meant to, but both Midoriya and Uraraka catch a good look at Hatsume's cleavage. As Hatsume fell on Midoriya on him after an explosion, he gets an even closer look.
  • The Ace: The episode reveals that despite being a Genius Ditz, or because of it, Hatsume is the best student in the Support Department; possibly the best one that there ever was according to Power Loader.
  • Call-Back:
    • Iida reminisces the events of his "battle" against Hatsume and is still pissed at her for it. On the other hand, she couldn't care less and has already forgotten it.
    • After the joke of the cast mistaking the USJ, "Unforeseen Simulation Joint", for "Universal Studios Japan", they now mistake the TDL standing for "Training Delicatessen Land" with "Tokyo Disney Land".
  • Crash-Into Hello: While it's not the first time they've met, Hatsume is reintroduced into the story by landing chest-to-chest on Midoriya after a failed experiment of hers sends them both flying.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: After Hatsume tries to help Iida supplement his leg thrusters with a rocket-powered gauntlet, Midoriya finally has a breakthrough in developing his own fighting style rather than simply emulating All Might: to compensate for his arms as they recover, he'd develop a fighting style revolving around kicks.
  • Extremity Extremist: Midoriya develops a fighting style of his own to contrast against All Might's: instead of focusing on powerful punches, he creates "Full Cowl Shoot Style", a fighting style focused on kicks.
  • Finishing Move: To increase their chances of earning their provisional hero licenses, the students are tasked with developing "Ultimate Moves" that they can use on the job. However, they aren't limited to powerful attacks; they can also be escape/evasive maneuvers, or style improvements or changes in their current moveset. Bakugo develops "AP Shot", a technique that focuses his explosions into concentrated long-range attacks; while Midoriya develops "One For All: Full Cowl Shoot Style", a fighting style favoring kicks to prevent further damage to his arms.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: The students are instructed to come up with a Finishing Move for the Lincense Exams. Many of them also go out of their way to modify their costumes.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Hatsume feels Midoriya up to feel how his body is in order to make a new costume for him. She is all but groping him by the time Uraraka notices it.
  • Signature Move: Invoked by the faculty when encouraging the students to develop their ultimate moves. It's supposed to be a move that represents you, assures your victory, and cannot be copied by others. They even lampshade some conventions of the trope (eg. the move should also have a name that is easy to say) when helping the class.
  • Training Montage: The students get montages scattered across the episode as they develop their movesets.
  • Written Sound Effect: "BOMB" as Midoriya is blown away by the lab explosion caused by Hatsume.
