Darkness

Original Airdate: August 9, 2020
Written by: Riku Sanjo
Directed by: Katsuya Watanabe

Summary:

With the revelations of the Kanaema Stones and Mabushina's curse, the others try to keep the secret away from her. Meanwhile, Takamichi is brainwashed into being evil after a blow of Jamentality into his heart by Galza in the last episode.

Tropes:

  • Acting Unnatural: The Kiramagers attempts to hide Mabushina from the danger she might be in are not hard to spot.
Mabushiina: You’re all acting like my brother now. I do not like it! At all!
    • It's to the point where Juru gets kicked out because his acting sucks.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Takamichi gets forcefully roped into fighting the Kiramagers thanks to the Jamentality Galza placed in the Monstone inside of him last episode. Luckily it doesn't last that long.
  • Brick Joke: Takamichi mentions that he feels like Brulus Liss, the protagonist of the fairy tale Galza mentions in the beginning, which obviously Juru does not get. Takamichi tells him not to mind. The Stinger shows that the others still don't know who Bruless Liss and even ask Takamichi...to which Takamichi runs off before explaining anything.
  • The Corrupter: The Dark Monstone in Takamichi’s chest turns him evil after being energised by Jamental.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Four to be exact.
    • Takamichi utterly crushes the Kiramagers with Galza after being corrupted by Galza's Jamentality.
    • Galza brutally beats up the remaining Kiramagers as Juru tries to get through to Takamichi.
    • The Kiramagers epically blast Galza with a combined Finishing Move before he has a chance to fight them, stunning the general and forcing his mask off. Goddamn.
    • Once Juru is able to hold off Galza, Takamichi combines with the Shovellow Corps (with Shovellow included) to take down the Jakku Monstone.
  • Funny Background Event: The Stinger has the others asking Takamichi who Bruless Liss is when he's right behind them. Bonus, there's even a caption that says "this guy here!" when Takamichi runs off.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The witch (dubbed the "Witch of the Stagnant Sea") who placed the curse on Oladdin to begin with.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Palette Swap:
    • The Queen shown in flashbacks is Mabushina’s costume in a different outfit, complete with headdress.
    • Takamichi’s evil Silver form gives him red eyes and a purple/gold changer.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode title is a reference to the movie Half a Confessionnote . note
  • The Reveal: Years ago, Oradin was cursed by the Witch of the Stagnant Sea, which didn't affect him directly. It instead affected the Queen, who - in seven days time - petrified and turned to dust after the witch's brand appeared on her. Even with Oradin's death, there's no way to know if the curse won't affect Mabushina in the future, which is why Takamichi is so desperate to get the Kanaema Stones.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Takamichi’s Changer doesn’t just change the colours and quotes to darker ones, it also changes Oladdin’s voice to Garza’s.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behaviour: Garza recalls an old Crystallian fairy tale where the hero had a bomb placed in his chest by an Evil Overlord. His favourite part was how the demon was able to control the hero with it.
