"They don't leave tracks."
Written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.
Directed by Stephen Williams.

In flashbacks, we see the story of Sun and Jin's first meeting. Jin's friend reads his horoscope, and tells him he will find love, and it will look "orange". Jin gets a job as a doorman at a snobby hotel. Sun's mother introduces her to a potential suitor, the hotel owner's son, Jae Lee. Despite both dreading the arrangement, Sun and Jae hit it off, and go on another date. However, Jae Lee reveals that he already intends to marrry another woman in America, and wants to use the pretense of their relationship to fend off pressure from his parents. Sun is heartbroken, and leaves. Jin quits on the spot after the owner reprimands him for allowing a poor man and his son in to use the bathroom. While walking down the street, Jin is distracted by a woman in an orange dress, and bumps into Sun.

At the Tailies' camp, the Tailies ask Michael, Jin and Sawyer for their help gathering food and water, so they can make the journey back to the main survivors' camp. Sawyer's shoulder wound is getting worse. Michael runs off into the jungle in search of Walt, and Jin and Eko follow him despite Ana Lucia's objections. They encounter the body of a man named Goodwin, with a weapon still stuck in his chest. Jin asks "Others?", and Eko nods. Sensing someone coming, the two hide, and see a group of barefoot Others pass by. They find Michael, and Eko convinces him that he cannot find the Others himself, and he returns with him.

At the beach, Sun has lost her wedding ring, and tries to retrace her steps to find it. Growing increasingly distressed, she tells Kate about Claire finding the message bottle. She shows her where she buried it, and they discover that she accidentally buried her ring too.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Ambiguous Syntax: When Jin and Eko find Goodwin's body, Jin asks "Others?" and Eko nods. It's not clear whether Eko is saying that Goodwin was killed by the Others, or that he was one of the Others.
  • Arranged Marriage: Jae Lee and Sun share a laugh about how their respective parents are trying to force them into a relationship.
Jae Lee: So, who's pressuring you more? Your mother or your father?
Sun: Definitely, my father, via my mother. What about you?
Jae Lee: My father, via my mother...via my aunt..via my grandmother.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: The way in which Sawyer and Ana Lucia trade barbs gives off this vibe.
  • Brick Joke: Jin's roommate points out that his tie still has the price tag on it; Jin replies that it cost him a fortune and he can't return it without the tag. During the interview, Mr. Kim notices the tag and pulls it off, essentially telling Jin that he got the job.
  • Crash-Into Hello: How Jin and Sun met. While walking aimlessly after quitting his job, Jin sees a woman in an orange dress and briefly considers his horoscope reading. Then he turns around and bumps into Sun.
  • Cross-Referenced Titles: With Season 1's "... In Translation". Both episodes are Jin and Sun centric.
  • Episode Finishes the Title: Lost and found.
  • Innocently Insensitive: While trying to make small talk with Sun, Hurley asks if Seoul is in "the good Korea or the bad Korea." Sun seems annoyed by the question.
  • Internal Reveal: A minor one that isn't given too much focus, but Sun learns that Jack used to be married when he offers advice on how to find her ring.
  • Lost Wedding Ring: Sun discovers she's lost her wedding ring. Hurley suggests Vincent may have eaten it but it eventually turns out that it slipped off her finger when she was burying the message bottle in the previous episode. Jack admits he once lost his wedding ring but just bought a replacement, something Sun can't do.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Ana Lucia asks Sawyer if he's gay when he says he's not married.
  • MRS Degree: Sun's mother chides her for not finding a husband at college and forcing them to use a matchmaker to set her up.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Jae Lee is very courteous to Jin when he asks for his boutonnière.
  • No-Sell: Jin, a former hitman, punches Eko in the face hard enough to draw blood. Eko shrugs it off like it's nothing, then floors him with a headbutt.
  • Prophecy Twist: Jin's roommate tells him that his horoscope says he will find love soon, and it will be "orange". Remembering this, Jin is distracted in the street by a woman in an orange dress, and then bumps into Sun, meeting her for the first time.
  • Rich Bitch: Mr. Kim, the owner of the Seoul Gateway Hotel, looks down on "common people," like Jin.
  • Rule of Three: Jin and Sun crossed paths twice before they officially meet, the first is when Sun arrives at the hotel (Jin is bowing his head, so he doesn't see her face) and the second is when Sun leaves after Jae Lee says he's in love with another woman (Jin only sees her from behind). They meet on their third encounter.
  • Take This Job and Shove It: Jin allows a slightly-impoverished man to take his son into the hotel lobby to use the bathroom. His boss sees this, gives him a warning, and orders him to find the two and kick them out. Jin quits on the spot.
