Recap / King Of The Hill S 2 E 15 Three Days Of The Kahndo

Go To

The Hills and the Souphanousinphones go on vacation to Mexico, but due to a misunderstanding on Kahn's part, him, Hank and Dale end up stuck in the country.

Tropes in the Episode:

  • Crazy-Prepared: How does Hank get a can of WD-40 open? Why, using a smaller bottle of WD-40, of course!
  • Cruella to Animals: Luanne secretly buys make-up made from 100 turtles which is illegal in America.
  • Dirty Coward: Two instances with Dale:
    • The first was when the cops arrive at the condo, where he bolts out of the window.
    • The second was when they jump the fence from the Mexico-American border, after he makes it across the fence. Hank can't get over it by himself, but Dale just runs off as the border cops make their way.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Invoked by Peggy when the families make their way to Mexico by slowing down enough and then speeding up at the last second. Khan naturally, complains about this, completely unaware that she's doing it intentionally. It ultimately bites her back when the Souphanousinphones make it to Mexico first while the Hills are forced to wait at the border crossing while they get searched for smuggling.
  • Fatal Fireworks: Bobby and Connie buy a giant firecracker called La Bomba, which is powerful enough to blow off someone's arm. They put it on a statue in front of an Italian restaurant. However, unknowingly to them, they bought a display model, which doesn't explode after the fuse gets lit.
  • Flush the Evidence: What Peggy attempts to do with the box, thinking the cops are after due due to her possibly being used as a mule. Instead, it was just a papier-mâché pear.
  • Funny Background Event: After Hank gathers the family around when the cops arrive at their condo, he tells them they have nothing to hide, to which is followed by Dale falling off the roof and is seen screaming and flying by the window.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Kahn just can't carry a tune, seen in the cold opening when he sings to "Mickey" near his jukebox and "She Blinded Me With Science" with the mariachi band, which ends up scaring them off.
  • Honest John's Dealership: The two guys who end up bartering with Hank, Kahn and Dale for the mopeds, which actually belonged to an older married couple.
  • It Tastes Like Feet
Bobby: [sobbing with lipstick smeared all over his mouth] This tastes like turtles...
  • Jerkass: Kahn really fills his oats here. First by getting Hank in trouble with the border guards. And when Hank finally arrives at the condo, he gives Hank the key to the upper condo nobody is renting that he tried to break into (something that would get them all in trouble later on). And also pretending he can't swim just to make Hank carry him on his shoulders across the river.
Hank: (after he drops Kahn in the river, who then swims flawlessly) I thought you said you couldn't swim.
Kahn: Yah. I'm big fat liar.
  • Kick the Dog: At the border on the way to Mexico, Kahn makes a joke to the border guards that Hank is a smuggler, which results in him getting searched.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Peggy, Bobby, Luanne and Dale all have this reaction when they see the cops arriving to their top half of the condo, with them having good reasons: Peggy, who is worried she's being used as a drug mule; Bobby, who left a giant fireworks cracker on the restaurant statue; and Luanne who bought make-up made for turtles which is illegal in America and might be suspected of smuggling. Dale hasn't done anything amoral or shady, but his own nature causes him to freak out anyway and try and escape.
  • Performance Anxiety: Dale drives with Hank riding shotgun while Kahn is in the trunk and just as they reach the border to get back to America, when the border guard visits with him, Dale cracks and ends up running, with Kahn and Hank following behind him.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite everything he put Hank through, Kahn is the one who helps Hank climb the fence to get on America soil.
  • Punk in the Trunk: With their first attempt to get back into America, Hank and Dale make Kahn ride in the trunk, mainly due to fearing Kahn, being a minority, will cause some questioning.
  • Run for the Border: What Hank, Kahn and Dale end up doing just to get back to America.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Bill gets a little jealous when he sees Hank and Kahn are about to go on vacation together. Hank's sarcastic response to Bill leaves him a bit heartbroken.
Bill: I think it's nice that you're goin' away, Hank. You need a good vacation with your new best friend Kahn who you love so much.
Hank: Yes, Bill. I love Kahn. Maybe if this trip works out, I'll marry him and live in Mexico forever. Is that what you wanna hear?
Bill: (On the verge of tears) No.
  • Slippery Swimsuit: After wading the river, Hank finds some underwear floating around, which happens to belong to Dale. Hank then throws it back to him.
  • Stealth Insult: We get this exchange after Kahn manages to scare away the mariachi band with his singing:
Hank: Pretty good, Kahn. I've never heard that song sung with only one note before.
Kahn: Yah. It all about the rhythm.
  • The Stinger: A shot of the Italian restaurant from earlier is shown, with the La Bomba firework still affixed in the statue. It still doesn't go off.
  • Vacation Episode: Both the Hills and Souphanousinphones take a vacation to Mexico.
