Futari wanote  Zenkaiger!
Kaito Goshikida finds himself in the strange merged world of his Earth and Kikaitopia. Despite the strange predicament that they are in, it doesn’t take long for Kikanoids and humans to get along with each other. However, the Tozitend are well on their way to take over this new world, leading to Kaito deciding to take on the task of defending the world from the nefarious empire. He first recruits the red Kikanoid Juran, a dinosaur-inspired robot who likes to think of himself as a cool dude.

Tropes

  • Aspect Ratio Switch: When depicting the various Sentai worlds being conquered, the aspect ratio changes from 16:9 to 4:3 when it shows the Gorengers and Zyurangers, as well as matching the film grain. It switches back to 16:9 when it shows Kiramai Red.
  • Behemoth Battle: Juran vs. a plain Kudaitest.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Juran, Yatsude and Kaito do this at the sight of both humans and Kikanoids with mushrooms on their heads.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Hilariously, Juran does this to one of the mooks the moment he receives his Geartlinger.
  • Cliffhanger: Yatsude goes out to go get ingredients for her “Yatsude Special”… only to find both Kikanoids and humans with mushrooms on their heads.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Ijirude’s response to Vroon trying to ask a question about Kikaitopia? Blast him with lightning.
  • Downer Beginning: Of a subtle sort. The show starts out with the Gorengers fighting off one of the Black Cross Army’s monsters, only for a mysterious force to appear in the sky, sealing up the Gorenger world in a Tojiru Gear. The same happens with the Zyurangers and the Kiramagers, and what is heavily implied to be all of the Sentai worlds. All those efforts to protect their Earths are vanquished under the Tozitend’s hand, leaving Kaito’s Earth as the universe remaining in their conquest.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Gaon, Magine and Vroon make their appearances early on in the episode; Gaon is in a Freeze-Frame Bonus in the beginning, Magine’s on a newscast and Vroon is a cleaner in the Tozitend Palace.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Kaito’s first scene is him attempting to bungee jump off the Tokyo Skytree.
  • Famous for Being First: Kaito wants to be the first to bungee jump off the Tokyo Skytree.
  • Fantastic Racism: The Kikanoids find themselves on the receiving end of this when the Tozitend starts their invasion of Earth, causing the human populace to be afraid of them. This is despite the fact that the Kikanoids got along with humans spectacularly before the empire came to Earth.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: When Kaito gives Juran a Geartlinger, he uses it to shoot a Kudack instead of transforming. Kaito has to give him instructions for it.
  • Imagine Spot:
    • Kaito has one when he imagines himself bungee-jumping off of the Tokyo Skytree.
    • He also sees himself and Yatsude using the Geartlingers to become Zenkaigers but the latter quickly blows it off.
  • Instant Expert: As per Sentai norm, Kaito and Juran instantly know how to fight in their Zenkaiger forms. However, Setchan has to tell them how to use the Sentai Gears and Machine World Transformations, so it’s not totally instantaneous.
  • In the Name of the Moon: The Zenkaigers do a simple two-person roll call after their first transformation.
    Kaito: The Secret Power! Zenkaizer!
    Juran: Dinosaur Power! Zenkai Juran!
Both: The two together, Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger!
  • Mirror Character: The episode established that despite being of different species, Kaito and Juran aren’t so different as both had a strong sense of justice and had been flung into trash piles for their initial attempts at having tried to defy the Tozitend.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The Sentai Worlds seen being sealed are Gorenger and Kiramager, the first and most recent Sentai series respectively. Between them is Zyuranger which, as well as being the basis for this series’ Red warrior, is of course important for having become the first incarnation of Power Rangers.
    • When he uses Sentai Gear #39 (aka Ninninger), Juran evokes Takaharu’s Catchphrase of “I’m fired up!”note  before blitzing through the mooks.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Despite the Kikanoids getting along with humans really well in the beginning, it doesn’t take long for the people of Earth to start getting afraid of them the moment Barashitara’s army comes. No matter how hard Juran tries to tell his friends he’s a good guy, they mistrust him and start to run away from him when he picks up a rock - a rock directed at the enemy.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spanner in the Works: An unknown force not only prevented Kaito’s Earth from being sealed in a Tojiru Gear, but also merged a part of Kikaitopia with it. Boccowaus is not pleased as it is the very last world the Tozitend needed to conquer.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Kaito, with his own unauthorized equipment no less, decides to jump off of the Tokyo Skytree to become the first at it. Shortly after, the police kick him out.
    • Kaito decides to recruit Yatsude into the fight against the Tozitend, but she quickly brushes it off, subtly reminding him that she’s too old to fight.
  • Time Skip: According to a newscast, around a month has passed since Kikaitopia and Kaito’s Earth has merged together.
  • Transformation Is a Free Action: Parodied hilariously, with the Tozitend army just looking on as Kaito gives Juran the rundown on how to use his Geartlinger, followed by their transformation.
  • We Come in Peace — Shoot to Kill: The people on Earth think this of the Kikainoids after the Tozitend’s forces decide to conquer the place, so they run away in fear of them.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: While the Tozitend could have just looked into the reason Kaito’s Earth was unable to be sealed and fix it as they did with all the other Worlds, Gege points out Where's the Fun in That?, considering it’s the last world they have to conquer, and suggests pulling an all-out invasion to annex it the traditional way instead, which Boccowaus approves of.
  • The Worf Effect: On a multiversal scale, as explained in Downer Beginning above.
