Setchan: Previously on… Zenkaiger!
The Tozitend Dynasty of Kikaitopia is on the attack!
Kaito meets Juran for the first time, and they went on to become the Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger!
They beat the bad guys and chased them off!
And that's when...

Mushrooms are everywhere on people's heads, leaving Juran, Kaito and Yatsude utterly bewildered at this turn of events. Determining that it was the Tozitend's doing, Kaito and Juran set off to recruit another teammate for the cause. During their search, Kaito gets approached by the yellow Kikanoid Gaon, an animal lover who equally adores humans and animals.

Tropes

  • Accidental Kiss: Juran and Gaon do this in their mecha forms before being transformed into ZenkaiOh.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Just like Juran in last week's episode, Gaon does this to one of the poor Kudacks the moment he gets his Geartlinger. Juran lampshades this by commenting that he did the same thing.
  • Boomerang Bigot: Gaon has a case of this up to eleven, deliberately ignoring any mechanical lifeforms whatsoever in order to get some interaction with an animal. Ironically, animals seem to ignore him whenever he does get the chance.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Barashitara's response to Vroon asking about the Zenkaigers? Blast him with his rockets.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Both Magine and Vroon get another one here: the former with a fortune-teller and the latter still a janitor at the Tozitend base.
  • Headbutting Heroes: Gaon's dislike of mechanical lifeforms puts him at odds with his eventual teammate Juran. Their arguments even extend in the mecha battle, leading to Kaito having to forcibly merge them together to get them to fight.
  • Refuge in Audacity: The entire public didn't mind that the Tozitend caused mushrooms to grow everywhere, due to them being mostly harmless (and some even calling it cute). That is, until they started releasing poison spores.
  • Refusal of the Call:
    • One of the main problems Kaito and Juran are facing in their quest to find more Zenkaigers is the fact that no one actually wants to fight against the Tozitend, citing that it's terrifying going up against an evil empire.
    • Gaon initially refuses to fight with them, but subverts this trope after seeing the people and animals suffer at Kinoko Wald's mushrooms.
  • Shout-Out: The name, shot composition and visual effects of Kinoko Wald's Galactica Mushroom Megaton Punch are a homage to the Galactica Magnum punch from Ring ni Kakero.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: As first Juran and Kaito's recruitment tactic runs pretty smoothly with the crowd... until they realize that they actually don't want to fight. The crowd decide to ignore them as a result.
  • Transformation Is a Free Action: Once again, it gets parodied this episode as Kaito and Juran have to teach Gaon how to use the Sentai Gears and Geartlinger - all the while Ijirude's army is just standing there and commenting about how they've added one more troublemaker to their party.
