Kiff is ready to have a spooky Halloween, but Barry gets scared easily. How will these best friends celebrate together?

Tropes:

  • Accidental Incantation: Barry accidentally summons the Satanic Archetype Scarm Scaremly when he shows some other kids that reading isn’t scary by reading aloud from a Spell Book written in Latin.
  • And Then I Said:
Roy: And then I said, "This is the hand that writes the check, capiche?"
  • Apathetic Clerk: The cashier at the “Ok Will”, who doesn’t even react when Kiff hits her in the head with coins to pay for her costume.
  • Asinine Alternate Activity: Because Barry is too scared to watch “Werehouse”, he and Kiff end up watching “Chubbles Wubbington’s Spooky Post Stories” from 1985. While Barry is amused by it, Kiff certainly is not.
    • Trevor’s Rockin’ Halloween Bash is also this compared to Candle’s party. Even her invitations are more exciting, with a colorful pop-up of a haunted house. Trevor’s cards however open up to a simple picture of himself with a mild expression on his face and a sign that says “Please come.”
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Barry, when he pretends to drop the dice down the stairs so Kiff can go back to Candle’s party. Kiff’s so excited though that she doesn’t even notice.
  • Bigger on the Inside: Scarm's stomach is titanic inside, making Barry look antlike in comparison.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Scarm’s response when Reggie makes a sarcastic comment about Scarm getting banned from the last party he went to.
    Reggie: Can’t imagine why.
    Scarm: SILENCE!
  • The Cavalry: Just as it’s looking like Scarm’s going to win and turn Barry and Kiff into decorations after all, Roy shows up on a steed made out of spiders.
  • Deal with the Devil: Barry signs Scarm’s contract to free him so that he’ll grant his wish of being brave like Kiff.
  • Eat Me: Barry’s plan to get the invitation out of Scarm’s stomach and trap him back in the book is to dress as a piece of candy corn and get Scarm to eat him.
Barry: Eat me, you big hungry boy
  • Face Your Fears: In order to not lose his friendship with Kiff, Barry decides to face his fear of Halloween and go to Candle’s party.
  • Failed Attempt at Scaring: Not believing he’s actually brave now, Kiff tries to make Barry jump with some scary faces but he doesn’t even blink.
  • Faux Horrific: In “Chubbles Wubbington’s Spooky Post Stories”, the titular character says nothing is scarier than a stamp with bad adhesive.
  • Fictional Board Game: “House Partay: Harvest Edition”
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Roy sits down to read “Roy to the World”, the first page of his chapter on “Humble Musings” is actually legible in its entirety.
    • The page before that also appears to be about an encounter he had with Chubbles, the star of the movie Barry chose to watch at the beginning of the episode. Roy later references this during his conversation with the swarm of spiders.
  • Freudian Couch: Barry lays down on the couch in the attic when he’s talking to the hand-turkey decoration like it’s a psychologist.
  • Getting Eaten Is Harmless: Not only is Barry completely fine after being eaten by Scarm, it turns out that a group of people have been living in Scarm's stomach for eons ever since he ate them at his first Halloween party.
  • Halloween Episode: Kiff wants her Halloween to be fun and scary, but Barry’s cowardice holds them back.
  • It Was with You All Along: Due to accidentally pausing the timer that would alert him to when the bravery spell would wear off, Barry realizes that he ended up doing most of the terrifying things throughout the night long after he had gone back to his normal, cowardly self.
Barry: I’m a real brave boy!
  • It's Personal: Roy stops running from the swarm of spiders and runs toward them with his fist raised when they damage his “Applegate” painting.
  • Jaw Drop: Kiff and Trevor look at Barry with their mouths hanging open when he tells them that Scarm swallowed the invitation they need. Kiff then does a Facepalm.
  • Kids Shouldn't Watch Horror Films: To Kiff’s disappointment, they only get a few minutes into the movie because Barry is absolutely terrified.
Movie Character: This is the most terrifying thing anyone could witness! No one should be watching this!
  • Miracle-Gro Monster: Scarm grows bigger and more powerful with each piece of candy he eats.
  • Must Be Invited: Scarm can’t leave the flaming circle he’s trapped in unless he’s invited to.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Upon defeat, everybody naturally turns back to their normal forms.
  • Objectshifting: Scarm turns the party-goers into Halloween decorations.
  • Our Werebeasts Are Different: The movie Kiff and Barry watch is about a were-''house''.
  • Read the Fine Print: Barry signs Scarm’s contract without reading the terms and conditions that say the wish only lasts 30 minutes.
Scarm: Gotta read the fine print, kid.
  • Scary Flashlight Face: Kiff is doing this while telling a scary story when Barry catches her hanging out downstairs at Candle’s party.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Scarm was trapped in a Tome of Eldritch Lore for thousands of years until Barry released him.
  • Shout-Out: Some of the kids play “airy as a hair, thick as a brick”, which is exactly like the “light as a feather, stiff as a board” game from The Craft.
  • Skyward Scream: Barry screams in frustration when trying to get the invitation from the dimwitted “stomach gang”.
  • Something We Forgot: At the end of the episode after everyone’s been turned back to normal, it’s revealed that Trevor is still stuck in his basketball hoop costume hanging in his attic because no one came back to get him down.
  • Spider Swarm: Candle accidentally releases a horde of live spiders in her home and Roy gets swarmed by them.
  • Staircase Tumble: Barry falls down the entire flight of stairs leading to the basement when he’s trying to hide from the party.
  • Two-Timer Date: Kiff tries to attend both Candle’s and Trevor’s Halloween party on the same night (and at the same location, no less).
  • Villain Song: “Party On, Scarm”
  • World-Healing Wave: After Scarm gets trapped back in his book, everyone he turned into a Halloween decoration returns to normal.
  • The Worm That Walks: Once Roy befriends the spiders, the swarm takes on a more anthropomorphic form.
