Recap / Kid Cosmic S 1 E 10 Kid Cosmic And The Day Is Saved

Go To

In the face of certain defeat, a turn of events provides the Local Heroes with a last-ditch chance to make things right. As the ensuing scramble leads to the lives of everyone literally hanging in the balance, a remarkable discovery about the Green Cosmic Stone is unveiled.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: The Local Heroes return the stones to their respective owners. Unfortunately, Queen Xhan returns six months later, saying that the other four alien survivors were killed by Erodious.
  • And the Adventure Continues: The episode ends with the town and everyone in it being teleported into space by Queen Xhan to help fight Erodius.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At the start of the episode, Chuck manages to neutralize the Biker in Black and the other soldiers, as well as get the green Cosmic Stone for Kid.
  • Big "NO!": Kid lets one out when the Biker in Black's attempt to run over his friends with a semi triggers a flashback to the head-on collision that killed his parents.
  • Book Ends: The last few minutes of this episode echo the first few minutes of Episode 1.
    • The opening of Episode 1 sees Kid waking up in a messy trailer. The last scene of the show sees him waking up in a neat trailer.
    • In Episode 1, we're introduced to Jo scrolling through photos on her phone, wishing she could be anywhere but where she is now. In the last scene, Flo is looking through Jo's phone, reminiscing on the time the town had with the Sole Survivors.
    • In the last few minutes of Episode 1 and Episode 10, Flo is reunited with the blue creamer.
    Carl: Super rare.
  • Character Development: As a result of his experiences in the past season, Kid develops an understanding that heroism is less about beating up the bad guys and more about helping people. Also, after the 6 month time skip, Kid has also developed the maturity to accept he's not the leader of his team, but rather that designation belonged to Jo all along.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: In a way. Kid takes back the stones from Earth Force. The now-depowered team joins everyone else now that the dust has settled. The same couldn't be said for the Biker in Black.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Or lack thereof. Kid leaps off the truck intending to fly off to join his friends at the diner, only to fall flat on his face, having briefly forgotten that he had recently given up his stone.
  • Hero of Another Story: The story takes a surprising turn when, despite being the titular hero of the show, Kid acknowledges Jo is the real leader of the Local Heroes.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Kid is excited to hear that the Sole Survivors have a tragic backstory like in his comics. Seeing Jo's Disapproving Look reminds him that the tragic backstory is indeed tragic.
  • Ironic Echo: Papa G didn't want the Cosmic Stones to be a source of pain for Kid after he lost his parents. The aliens reveal that they are exactly that. As Kid suspected from one of his comics, the stones are the remnants of their planets destroyed by Erodious the Planet Killer, and each alien is a Last of Their Kind.
  • Moment Killer: Papa G calls out the locals who interrupt the team's touching moment in returning the stones to the aliens.
  • Preemptive "Shut Up": Kid shuts up Biker in Black before he starts his We Can Rule Together spiel.
  • Redemption Rejection: When Kid extends his hand to the Biker in Black, the man refuses to join him, preferring to be left alone.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a reference to Craig McCracken's other show, The Powerpuff Girls. In which every episode would end with the phrase, "So once again, the day is saved... thanks to the Powerpuff Girls!"
  • Skewed Priorities: Kid tries to glue the green stone back onto the hex nut to make it into a ring again, because "rings are cooler". It ends up stuck in his hand instead while escaping the Biker.
  • Time Skip: Six months pass after the stones are returned to their rightful owners.
  • Trauma Button: Kid seeing the Biker in Black's convoy of semi-trucks about to run over his friends triggers a flashback to the head-on collision that killed his parents, and his desperation to save them awakens the true power of the green stone.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: The adult locals arrive to greet the friendly aliens in the middle of Kid's team returning the stones.
  • We Can Rule Together: The Biker in Black is impressed with Kid harnessing the green stone's power and tries to recruit him to Earth Force Enforcement Force. Kid interrupts his first attempt and rejects his second.
  • Wham Shot: Kid discovers that the green stone doesn't give him the power of flight, but telekinesis.
  • Wham Episode: The aliens reveal that the Cosmic Stones are the last remnants of their home worlds, which were destroyed by a powerful alien named Erodious the Planet Killer. Six months later, Queen Xhan returns to Earth, revealing that she is the last of the 5 survivors, as the other 4 were killed by Erodious, and that thirteen stones in total are needed. She calls for the Local Heroes' help before she transports them (and everyone else in the diner) into space, setting up a plot for season 2.
  • Wrong Assumption: Kid thinks that telekinesis grants him Mind Control, and attempts to compel Earth Force into surrender the remaining four stones. Mstr Wlkzn tells him that it's actually Mind over Matter.
  • You Monster!: Biker in Black to Chuck when the alien destroys his motorcycle.
