With great casualties, Nihilus has been defeated. But while Jaune is dead, the mask of Nihilus still remains and the Battle of Beacon has shaken the world of Remnant to its very core, with far-reaching consequences not yet seen.

Tropes in this chapter include:

  • Broken Pedestal: Blake becomes disillusioned with Ozpin after he scapegoats the White Fang for Nihilus' rampage and goes on the run as soon as she recovers from the injuries Adam inflicted on her.
  • Call-Forward:
    • Penny's father/creator Dr. Polendina is mentioned to be working on creating new prosthetic eyes for Weiss and Winter remarks on how he's apparently done the procedure several times in the past (referencing Maria Calavera).
    • While discussing the arrangements he made for Ruby's new team with Glynda and Winter, Ozpin plans to have Clovis Elbi (a character who debuted in Volume 7) assigned as Ruby's chaperone.
    • Cade asks his father if the rumors that that the Galactic Alliance is going to war with the Fel Empire are true, something which happens in the backstory of the Legacy comics.
    • Darth Krayt mentions his plans to sabotage the Ossus Project and overthrow Emperor Roan Fel, both of which come to fruition in the Legacy.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • While bringing up her promotion to the head of the Atlas Military, Winter explains that she was picked from three candidates, the others being Colonel Doyle and Operative Cordovin. In the show, Cordovin was an antagonist who appeared in Volume 6 that obstructed the heroes when they tried to travel to Atlas.
    • Robyn Hill, a major supporting character from Volume 7 and 8, is mentioned to have been elected by the Council as the new Headmistress of Atlas Academy.
    • Darth Ruyn and Talon are mentioned by Krayt to be among the Sith that are to accompany him into the Unknown Regions. Talon was a major character from Legacy who served Krayt as one of his Hands, while Ruyn was Talon's master who Krayt ordered her to kill as a final test of loyalty.
  • Deceased Fall-Guy Gambit: In order to keep the existence of Nihilus a secret from the public, Ozpin pins all the blame for the Fall of Beacon on Adam Taurus, who was amongst those massacred by Nihilus during the battle.
  • Dénouement Episode: The main conflict has already been resolved in the previous chapter with both main characters dead and Nihilus once again trapped inside his mask. This chapter is focused around showing the impact of Nihilus' actions while tying up remaining loose ends.
  • Evil Learns of Outside Context:
    • Thanks to Watts having recovered the raw footage of Cinder's global broadcast before it was censored by Ozpin's group, Salem learns of the Mask of Nihilus' existence and deduces that the mask grants power to its wearer. With this new information, she puts her hunt for the Relics on pause as she makes new plans to find out where the mask is and obtain it for herself.
    • Darth Krayt and the One Sith sense the Force Wound created by Nihilus and depart for the Unknown Regions in order to find the source and destroy it.
  • The Force Is Strong with This One: While possessing Jaune's body, Nihilus was so powerful that his mere presence on Remnant created a disturbance in the Force comparable to Alderaan's destruction by the Death Star. It's mentioned that every Force-sensitive in the galaxy was able to sense Nihilus' staggering power and sinister intentions.
  • Grand Finale: Of Jaune Arc, Lord of Hunger.
  • I'm Having Soul Pains: Darth Nihilus' actions during the Fall of Beacon created another Wound in the Force, resulting in a psychic backlash that spreads across the entire galaxy and causes extreme pain to anyone Force-sensitive.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Although she's suffered life-changing injuries and is now strictly under Winter's care, Weiss still gets sent back to Atlas City and separated from her team in the Fall's aftermath.
    • Even though Yang never has her arm cut off and Adam is killed during the Battle of Beacon, Blake still ends up running away in the aftermath of the Fall of Beacon.
    • Salem still sends Tyrian to capture Ruby following the Fall of Beacon.
  • Last Episode, New Character: This is the last chapter of Jaune Arc, Lord of Hunger, and the one in which various characters from Star Wars Legacy make their debut such as Kol and Cade Skywalker, Wolf Sazen, Darth Krayt, and the One Sith. It also sees RWBY characters Salem, Watts, Hazel and Tyrian make their debuts in the fic.
  • Lesser of Two Evils: Ozpin is aware that publicly blaming the White Fang for everything that happened during the Fall of Beacon will likely increase racial tensions between humans and Faunus while setting back equality for Faunus by decades. However, he considers this preferable to the global panic that briefly broke out following Cinder's broadcast of Nihilus.
  • Noodle Incident: It's mentioned that Ozpin removed Beacon's Relic from its vault sometime in the past for reasons unknown.
  • Oddly Small Organization: According to Winter, the command structure of the Atlas Military consists primarily of General Ironwood at the top with just Winter, Colonel Doyle, and Caroline Cordovin below him. Especially odd given now Atlas is supposed to have the most powerful army in the world.
  • Properly Paranoid:
    • Ozpin tries to cover-up any evidence of Nihilus' existence due to the possibility that Nihilus might inadvertently be freed from Beacon's vault by evil people looking to take his mask's power for themselves. He's proven right in the very next scene as Salem immediately makes plans to steal the mask from Ozpin after watching Cinder's broadcast.
    • Cade Skywalker is shown to be worried due to rumors he heard that the Fel Empire is going to start another war. Although Kol assures Cade that what he's heard are just unfounded rumors, he internally acknowledges that there is a possibility that Cade could be right since Force Wounds have historically been created during times of galactic conflict. Of course, Cade's fears are completely valid since that's exactly what Darth Krayt is planning to do and it's how he originally took over the galaxy in the Legacy comics.
    • Both Kol Skywalker and Darth Krayt are paranoid about whatever caused the Force Wound they sensed and believe it to be a major threat. Their fears are justified considering that the Wound was created by Darth Nihilus, who straight up told Ozpin in the previous chapter that he was planning to consume the entire universe of all life.
  • The Scapegoat: After restoring the CCT network, Ozpin erases the media's records of Nihilus and places sole blame for the Fall of Beacon on Adam Taurus and the White Fang. While the White Fang are partially responsible, they were merely pawns to Cinder, who was the true mastermind behind the attack. Ozpin likely chose the White Fang as the villains for his narrative because the public was more familiar with them.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Due to the Mask of Nihilus proving to be indestructible, Ozpin has Ruby seal the Mask in Beacon's vault using her Maiden powers.
  • Sequel Hook:
    • Salem has Watts find all the information he can on Darth Nihilus' mask while also sending out Tyrian to capture Ruby (the only person able to open the vault where said mask is being stored).
    • In need of a replacement for Cinder, Salem orders Hazel to recruit someone who has a grudge against Ozpin and the Huntsmen Academies.
    • Both the Legacy Era Jedi Order and One Sith were able to sense Nihilus' presence as a Wound in the Force, with Darth Krayt leaving to find the source.
  • Spanner in the Works: Salem acknowledges Nihilus as this, noting that Cinder's plan was relatively flawless, and the execution was only foiled by Nihilus making his own move at the same time.
  • Those Were Only Their Scouts: The epilogue ends with the revelation that although the heroes barely managed to defeat Darth Nihilus, his presence was detected by the One Sith and an entire army of Sith warriors is now on their way to investigate.
  • Weirdness Censor: Despite dozens of students and tourists having witnessed Darth Nihilus' powers with their own eyes and Cinder having broadcasted recorded footage of the heroes' initial battle with him all over the globe, Ozpin is able to cover-up the incident by lying to the media that Cinder's footage was faked by the White Fang in order to cause more chaos. Both the media and the public seem to have accepted Ozpin's claims without question.
  • Wham Line: After sensing a disturbance in the Force caused by Nihilus' brief revival on Remnant, Kol Skywalker asks his fellow Jedi Wolf Salzen if he also felt the disturbance, leading to this response:
Wolf: I fear every Force Sensitive in the Galaxy would've felt that.
