Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 2 E 30 Pleasure Cruise

Go To

After Jackie thwarts a theft attempt on a valuable dragon statue, its moved to a cruise ship as a means of hiding it and he's given tickets for the others to enjoy a relaxing cruise. Too bad the thieves don't give up so easily.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Big "SHUT UP!": Uncle and Tohru's mother in response to Jackie suggesting they relax by the pool instead of further compete.
  • Competition Freak: Uncle and Tohru's mother even when the thieves have taken over the ship and locked all the passengers except Jade in a laser cage. They go at it in Tic-Tac-Toe, Mahjong, shuffleboard, and arm-wrestling.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Jade threatens one of the thugs with the horse talisman saying it has magic powers and all she needs to trigger it is say the magic words. The thugs responds "yeah right" while his boss and teammate blow up the safe without him knowing about it. He surrenders. Later, while he and another thug are fighting Jackie, Jade uses it to her advantage.
  • Cruise Episode: The episode is set almost entirely on a cruise ship.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The boss orders the brains of his group to blow up the vault, which he's against since it might blow a hole in the ship's hull. He was right.
  • Exact Words: Jackie ordered that the Horse Talisman was to stay in the vault for the rest of the cruise, so Tohru remained in the vault with it.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Giles tricks Jade into revealing her location on the ship, Jade realizes who she is talking to as she questions the importance of that detail.
Giles: No. What is YOUR location? Where are you on the ship?
Jade: Well I'm in the radio room, but what does that have to do with- (beat) uh oh.
  • Games of the Elderly: Uncle and Tohru's mother preoccupy themselves trying to beat each other at various games even with every life onboard endangered. She beats him many times in mahjong, Chinese checkers and tic-tac-toe. At one point, she challenges him to a round at gin rummy, but he wants shuffleboarding, which he claims to be a game of skill. They end up using shuffleboard pucks to stop two of the robbers from escaping with the Golden Dragon, and the episode ends with them having a well-matched round at arm-wrestling.
  • I Warned You: The smart mook's reaction to when the explosion blows a hole in the hull, in addition to opening up the vault.
  • Mundanger: One of the few episodes where the threat comes from completely human criminals; all the magic is strictly on the good guys' side.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Jade uses these on Uncle to convince him to go on the cruise with them.
Uncle: Big brown eyes. Gets Uncle every time.
  • Running Gag: Tohru's struggles with seasickness, so severe that only a magical talisman gives him any relief.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Upon seeing that Tohru's mother was aboard, Uncle's first instinct was to swim back to shore. He only changes his mind when told about mahjong.
  • Sore Loser: Uncle doesn't take losing to Tohru's mother multiple times well and accuses her of cheating.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Uncle and Tohru's mother stop the thieves using shuffleboard pucks.
  • This Cannot Be!: The Captain's reaction to when the cruise ship is repaired.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After all his struggles with seasickness, Tohru gets to relax comfortably in the ship's vault with the Horse Talisman.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: The ship under the control of robbers and about to sink won't defer Uncle from trying to beat Tohru's mother in a game.
  • Vacation Episode: A cruise ship.
  • Visual Pun: Jackie gets thrown into assorted musical equipment. When he emerges, he looks like a One-Man Band.
