Recap / Infinity Train: Voyage of Wisteria: The Bake-o-Life Car

Go To

Funerals are done in Alola, and the Train group go to meet a former Apex member with a heavy heart.

  • Accidental Truth: Lexi questions if Tiffany is trying to create a "giant golem" to protect her. He's partly right, as Tiffany is trying to make a new "body" for Lampetia.
  • And I Must Scream: Subverted; Lampetia doesn't feel terrified that she was stuck in her heart for form months on end as she was able to connect with her sisters. What terrified her the most was that none of them remembered Specter due to whatever Gladion did to erase the White Gestalt from memory.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: The Denizens of the Bake-o-Life Car are sentient food.
  • Call-Back: The focus of Tiffany's problems comes from the very horrible remark she said about Chloe deserving to die in the Fog Car. Speaking of which, Specter's nightmares are from his time in that car.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Specter gets one when he recalls his encounter with the Bogeyman in the Fog Car.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Ashachu has one, much to his chagrin.
  • Due to the Dead: At Alola, Chloe, Tokio, and Mallow do one of these for Utahoshi, Tuba, and Mallow's mother.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The Knights of Hanoi are not happy to learn how the Apex like to wheel sentient denizens (even though they once had a plan to put people into comas in order to destroy the cyber world to eradicate the Ignis).
  • Grew a Spine: Compared to him stuttering and being unable to defend himself, Goh doesn't give Lexi the time of day, pondering what he wants when he tries to talk to him.
  • Imagine Spot: Ashachu gets one upon wondering how Serena and Trip would react upon seeing him. He's mostly accurate.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: Serena's reactions to Ashachu.
  • Level Ate: The Bake-o-Life Car is practically a giant Car made of sweets, with even the Denizens around it being living food.
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: This happened with Lampetia and Specter, though thanks to some help from Tiffany, they finally get to say goodbye to each other although Lampetia is still shaken up over it.
  • Noodle Incident: Ash somehow gets transformed into Ashachu again.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Goh empathizes with Tiffany over how she wants to "fix" her mistakes, but isn't sure how to go about it, and the first attempt they go through without thinking of the consequences. Not to mention being constantly told to be better, without ever being given any idea on how to do that in the first place.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: The focus of the chapter.
    • Sara hates herself for the horrible things she's said and done, especially the remark she made in the Engineered Public Confession where she looked down on others who were weird and different all while completely forgetting that she shared a class with a kid who has special needs (Franklin). Her foster mother counters that she was once like that too, and the only way she got out of it was with support and motivation.
    • Tiffany is beating herself up for both snatching Lampetia's heart and being an insensitive brat over her remarks on Chloe dying. Lexi himself notes that he's still very bitter about that.
    • While nothing is made blatantly clear, it's evident that Goh and his Pokémon aren't so quick to forget the horrible treatment Lexi gave to the guy and Lexi knows it.
  • Reformed Bully: After having a mental breakdown over guilt over her actions and her foster mother comforting her, Sara Diktaylis asks her why took her in, knowing what she has done. Her foster mother reveals she used to be just like Sara in her youth, and it took a lot of support and just as much of her own clawing to get out of that same pit Sara is in.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Somewhat; Lexi is unsure if he should fold into his Specter form so Lampetia can hug him and get some comfort.
  • The Reveal: Tiffany is from the Pokémon World, particularly the Galar Region.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Sara is shown miserable and alone, tying her hair into a braid...which makes her mirror Chloe before she got onto the train. In other words, she's becoming exactly like her bullying victim.
  • Running Gag: Again the Lexi/Specter confusion continues as Hazel cheerfully calls Specter "Human Lexi" and Goh is breathing in a paper bag.
  • Shaped Like Itself: Specter's comment on Lampetia is that she was always pushing him because she was so...pushy.
  • Soft-Spoken Sadist: Ben is unsettled to discover that while Sarang threatens him with skewers through his wrists, his voice doesn't even raise an octave.
  • This Explains So Much: When Lexi finally gets a good look at Specter, he finally understands why Easter assumed he was "copying" their partner.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Ash's reactions upon realizing that his Ashachu transformation will be for a few days and he'll have to face his Pokémon and his classmates.
  • Tough Love: Implied. Sara Diktaylis's foster parents made her watch the news about Ms. Turner attempting to kill her former classmates before Chloe, the girl she bullied, stopped her. Seeing this and their interviews does not help Sara's mental state and guilt, especially since the girl who became the hero is the same girl she despised for being different. She has a breakdown and starts screaming until her foster mother comforts her. When Sara asked why her foster mother took her in, she reveals that she was once just like Sara. It's implied that she and her husband forced Sara to watch the news, so she understands the harm she caused and hopes to help her grow into a better person.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Ben sorely underestimates how dangerous Sarang is, and 'Mr. Butterfly' happily corrects him.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Chloe doesn't seem surprised to see a talking Pikachu since she partnered with a talking corgi and living book for two months.
  • Visual Pun: There are bunny loaves (a "loaf" is a sitting position a bunny makes).
