Recap / Infinity Train: Voyage of Wisteria: The Pirate Car

Go To

Goh gets a moment to shine, but Vox enacts his plan…

Tropes in this car include:

  • Call-Back: Tobias thanks the ghost for help creating the Signal Car. In the 400 Rabbits Car, Mallow's message was delivered to Specter's Duel Disk.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Thunder Bombs from Ignis are put into good use when Goh chucks one into the gullet of the sea monster.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Goh coming down from his adrenaline rush makes his message come off as a drunk text.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Goh reminisces on Pokémon typing, he recalls Ignis' Thunder Bombs and uses them to destroy the Demon of the Deluge.
  • Evil Plan: Vox's is to take over the Signal Car, while Mad Ben kidnaps Tomas to make him summon his two rivals onto the train.
  • Magic A Is Magic A: Vox can’t hijack the train directly since it follows a different style of tech than he controls, but the Signal Car is a weak point he can exploit. He just needed someone to open the door…
  • Noodle Incident: When Goh asks if Chloe ever had to ride a ship and get a pirate's oath, she decides not to correct him.
  • Pirate Episode: Of course…though the ship Wisteria becomes much more important later.
  • Sea Monster: One of these struck at the Pirate Car, the Demon of the Deluge, with Goh being ultimately the one to take it down.
  • Shout-Out: This Car and its denizens are a reference to the Redwall books and the Captain Claw video game, as it is filled with action-and-adventurey rodents like Ferrets and Cats.
  • Talk Like a Pirate: Romsca has a pretty distinctive accent, which makes Goh and Warbler react in surprise when her voice loses the accent during an emotional moment.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After everything he's gone through, Goh finally gets a kickass moment that's entirely his own.
  • Title Drop: The Red Lotus Quarto takes a voyage on a ship called Wisteria.
  • Wham Episode: The Signal Car is hijacked by Vox and Mad Ben.
    • In a minor way, Goh takes out a Sea Monster and finally earns a victory that he can call his own after a story and a half of failure after failure.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Gladion gives Tokio an earful for the promise he demanded of Goh, and orders him to apologize the next time they talk.
    • Kiawe gives a shorter one for how blasé Ash and Chloe are about Goh’s situation. But they respond that focusing too much on their worries will just make things worse for everyone, since they can't do anything more on this side of the train and trying to board it will cause more problems.
