Recap / Infinity Train Seeker Of Crocus Act 2 Prelude

Go To

The time in the sea of blue sand comes to an end, but new troubles are coming for all involved.

  • Adaptation Deviation: In the original trilogy, the figment of Alain's hope was based on Ash. The short scene here, however, reveals that it's based on Sycamore instead.
  • Adaptation Distillation: The first scene of the prelude distills all of Court of Cyclamen in one go with Bede seeing Mitsuko's spirit destroyed after being exorcised in Josh's body and Steve bringing up there are 53 more pieces of her reamining.
  • Adaptation Name Change: The Unfinished Car has now been called the Turtles University Car.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Downplayed. During her talk with Ash over the phone, Chloe ends up asking him if he even likes her, especially after he brings up the other girls who didn't like Pokémon but then ended up going over the moon for them and comparing them to why he never "clicked" with the Professor's daughter. While Ash is momentarily stunned, he manages to stay calm, with the question ultimately showing how Chloe is still stuck in her own retelling of events, acting like they're fact when the reality is far more complicated.
Chloe: [as Ash has brought up the previous girls he's traveled with] But what about me?![...] Was I just nothing to you in the end cause I wasn’t into Pokémon? That I wasn’t like every single girl you met who had her eyes set on some dream immediately? Do you even like me? Even before I challenged you, did you like anything about me?!
  • Backhanded Apology: Downplayed. While Chloe's apology to Ash is ultimately sincere, she still points out that Ash didn't get to know her better and asks if he even cared about her to begin with, making it seem as if she's trying to blame him for not making the first move.
  • Badass Bystander: Oscar doesn't have his powers from Rey but he's the only one outside of Rey capable of stopping Mallow from going crazy by trying to have Tsareena use Sweet Scent to calm her down, and catches her knife before she can pick it up.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Lexi states that Specter was tasked to keep an eye on Chloe. Cut to Chloe tackling Specter to give something back...said something is a tray of shawarmas that she's desperately wanting to eat..
  • Beware the Honest Ones: When Augustine gets stuck with a Truth Geass, he lays out a lot of his frustrations on Chloe and Specter.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Chloe says this when Ash tells her some of the horrifying stuff he encountered.
  • Burning with Anger: Rey bursts into blue flames when Matt said that a grey cloaked person stalked Mallow when she was on the Train when it comes to the realization that a member of Elipzo brainwashed Mallow to make her believe trains don't exist in Alola.
  • Call-Back:
    • When Chloe describes Malphas, Lexi recalls that Amelia "dressed up" like him during the Fashion Runway Car.
    • Bede got on the Train due to that incident of Tokio beating him up back at the Chocolate Car.
  • Continuity Nod: Before Chloe can make a remark that Ash isn't into "girl things", he immediately brings up the multiple times he's had to crossdress and his temporary stint as a Pokémon Coordinator in Sinnoh.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: After Chloe learns of some of the horror stuff Ash has experienced, she asks why they didn't get to have these talks sooner. Ash admits that it's because neither of them properly asked one another, with him also adding that he should have confronted Chloe sooner rather than fully believing Goh's remark of "my friend's not into Pokemon anymore".
  • Description Cut: In Vermillion City, Kaito notes that the Goldtsuiker siblings are off to talk to the locals. Cut to them meeting Team Rocket.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The goblins in the Goblin Jail Car were ready to kill Chloe because she got annoyed with a certain song that kept playing.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Chloe tells Ash about Vincent Smith's famous "They looked like monsters to you?" line, she realizes that this might be what's going on with Hop and Alain; they're now twisted and warped to see Silent Hill much differently than it should be.
  • Fainting: Juran, once again, faints upon being around Ghost Pokémon.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Chloe theorizies that what happened with Hop and Alain in the Fog Car might twist their perspectives. Scenes later, we see Alain staring at a figment of his hope, St. Sycamore.
  • Flipping the Bird: Grace gives this to Chloe to show how she's not going to make peace with the Red Lotus Uprising. Chloe is more annoyed than shocked at the gesture.
  • Food as Bribe: Specter and Lexi came up with a plan to make Chloe call Ash — Specter will keep her shawarmas away and eat them unless she finally calls.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Agares reveals that Goetias can't bare children and mutters something about the idea of Marchosias and Wepwawet stealing from a group of wolves. So why does Asher, a Shadow, suddenly have memories of being raised by two of them?
    • Matt Hardy elaborates more on Aerostar's prediction of rainbows by stating that there is an evil group coming, one of seven members coming to Alola. Those who played Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon would instantly realize who this is before the final scene reveals an unnamed Giovanni about to head off to the Crocusverse.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Team Rocket calls Zocks and his siblings thieves...even though their modues operandi is trying to capture a Pikachu for their boss along with any other mons in sight.
    • Downplayed on the humor but Ash notes that he was about to say that Chloe didn't say anything about wanting to learn about him because he's equally guilty for just giving half-hearted attempts to explore Pokémon and didn't try getting to know her better.
  • Jerkass Realization: When Grace states that her parents always caged her, Chloe has an epiphany in how her father never "caged" her at all — the Institute was a safe place to get away from the bullies, not a prison that wouldn't allow her to do what her heart desired. This helps her realize that she's misjudged her parents the entire time and makes her work on making amends.
  • Mythology Gag: Ash recalls three different horror incidents: his ghost being taken out of his body, the Spooky Mansion and being possessed by the king of Pokelantis.
  • Noodle Incident: Raum is not welcomed by the Royal Aviary Car because he stole a treasure from them.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • Ash tells Chloe that she's so similar to Goh: they're very passionate at their hobbies and are determined at doing research for it.
    • Chloe realizes that she's no different from Grace when the latter states how she's been caged by her own parents.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Specter is so shaken up by what Augustine told him, that he's trying to hide his voice cracking.
    • Oscar notes that something is wrong on Matt's end if he's talking about his premonitions yet his weird British accent just vanished.
  • A Rare Sentence: Asher tells Chloe that he does not want her to use her Cloak to expose his baby photos to which Yuri lampshades the oddity of the sentence.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stunned Silence: Whatever Augustine called Specter, it's so damning that Specter felt like he lost his hearing for a second and everyone is horrified at what was said.
  • Take That!: Chloe notes how Pyramid Head makes a lot of appearances in Silent Hill spin-offs, with the last one being that weird dungeon crawler that no one likes. She also talks shade about Silent Hill Revolution 3D, particularly in its decision to make Vincent (Cooper) the love interest of Heather.
  • The Unreveal: Whatever Augustine called Specter that caused him to have his voice crack and him utterly shocked. Lexi muffles Vaillant's mouth before he says it while Paimon pushes his camel aside when Chloe tries to repeat it.
  • Wham Episode: Something is wrong with Mallow, revealing that Elipzo had existed prior to both Rey and Augustine's own trips, Grace is officially declaring that she and Simon are going to the Fog Car, Augustine's anger has been removed for the time being (with Paimon warning Chloe and Specter to not rile him up ), Ryu is boasting how he and Elipzo is going to destroy Silent Hill and the threat about rainbows that Aerostar and Matt mentioned is that of Rainbow Rocket.
  • Wham Line: Bede's section ends with the hooded person who helped out in the Blue's Clues Car introduce himself...as Austen Plane.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Austen Plane gets his first physical description, and he looks just like Sycamore.
    • Alain's figment as Dreams isn't Saint Ash, it's St. Sycamore.
  • You Didn't Ask: Defied. Ash wants to say that this is the reason why Chloe didn't learn so much about him, but he swiftly admits that it's also hypocritical at how he is also to blame for not even considering avenues outside Pokémon and accepting Goh's answer as the default instead of just talking to Chloe and asking her directly.
